Spring Training Game Thread: 3/2/23 Twins @ Rays

Feels like cheating that this game is being played at the Trop.

Also unfortunate for those that would rather be outside.

I went to mlb.tv but there seems to be only a radio feed, and the Rays' broadcast team at that.  Am I overlooking anything?

No, that's what I'm listening to as well.

Sloppy outfield play. Sac fly cost us a run. Poor mechanics. Poor throw.

Thanks, wsnydes

You're welcome.  Spring training is a lot less organized.  They're easier to find during the regular season.

The Rays' broadcast team have no information whatsoever about the Twins on the field.  Plays described as going to the "left fielder" etc, with no elaboration.

Not a very good offensive showing for the Twins today.  Nice to hear Noah Miller gets a base hit in the late going.

Ha!  I noticed that too.  It's almost like an unlicensed video game with no player names!

... and now a "home run for Minnesota" with no clue as to who the batter is, if you go by the on-air "talent."  They can identify positions on the field and which side the batter is on, but it takes them forever to look up our guys' names.

/ edit - which turns out to not be a homer after all.

At least they know that "Minnesota" is the opponent.  So, there's that!

"Trailing 3-2, for what it's worth."  These announcers are homers, and not of the four-base variety, with their sour grapes remarks.

Stolen base for Sabato?

Quite an adventure for Sabato. Walked, stole second on a full-count pitch, advanced on a wild pitch that caromed off the backstop directly to the catcher and scoring when the ball tricked past the third baseman on the throw to third.

A run is a run!  It all looks same in the box score...

...no it doesn't...

Jose Salas catches the final out.  Good to see all the young'uns get some playing time.  First cuts must be coming soon...

I followed, just didn’t participate. Thinking up adventures to take my rental car on.

Didn't realize that was a thread going on. Pretty boring game until  the 9th. I was thinking the lack of stolen bases that Twins have failed to take advantage of. Then Miller got a hit stole 2nd then 3rd. People who believe stealing bases is a waste of time, you have to take into consideration how it rattles the pitcher. Gross served up a nice meatball to Keirsey. Keirsey stole 3rd & scored on errant throw. Meanwhile Gross walked Sabato, Sabato stole 2nd (who'd have known), Sabato advanced on a WP & scored on another errant throw.

W/o the base running antics advancing & shaking the pitching & team we'd have lost the game. For a game that doesn't count, it serve to be very valuable if management took note.

Thanks wsnydes for starting the thread. I wasn't criticizing only that I missed it until right after the game

No worries, I didn't take it as criticism.  Spring training games aren't as obvious or advertised.

My reply to you was about the bolded bit.  That's all.
