  1. I don't think he insinuated it was his idea, and since when is it a reporters obligation to revel sources? Why would he pass off an idea from the dodgers? What would either he or they have to gain from that? It's not as though it changed anything from a negotiating stand point.
  2. Or just get a different 2nd basemen at some point next year.
  3. That could have been speculation on his part, or it could have been a concern the dodgers really have with him and his source brought it up. Either way it doesn't make him a shill. Don't shoot the messenger.
  4. How hard is it to find players with "veteran presence"
  5. Personally I hope both DeLeon and dozier do well next season, rooting for players on different teams in different leagues to fail because a trade didn't happen is ridiculous. I mean if the dodgers did cave and offer the moon for Dozier, would you root against Dozier doing well so the twins would wind up with "the better end of the deal" This X2095 or 105 pages whatever your preference.
  6. Because there are other 3b available in trades and on the free agent market that can't find homes, the market for 3b is just as bad. Rosenthal has never been known to be a shill for anyone.
  7. What if the dodgers aren't low balling the twins, but the twins are trying to rip off the dodgers, or are asking for to much in return. Ultimately we have no idea whats been offered beyond JDL.
  8. Were never going to know the offer, but that said, at a certain point they'll have to sell for 50 or 25 cents on the dollar, likely around the trade deadline in 2018 since he'll be 3 months from free agency.
  9. Freaking 100 pages of torture.
  10. The dodgers 40 man roster is currently full which is half the reason they haven't made Jansen's signing official (the other being he's on his honeymoon) they'll obviously need to clear space for both, and instead of cutting someone, they could include someone from the 40 man roster. http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/la/roster/ Maybe someone like Kyle Farmer, who's versatile and can play 1st and 3rd well, plus Catch, and is major league ready, they did just sign another minor league catcher recently. It could be a ****tier player like Darin Ruff or Segduin or Chris Taylor plus a decent lower level lotto ticket like Immani Abdulla.
  11. I'm pretty skeptical that last batch of names is ahead of DeLeon on the depth chart, if the dodgers keep DeLeon, they may end up trading Kaz and McCarthy to clear some salary cap, and make room for better pitchers. And DeLeon is a better pitcher than Stewart, Stripling and Wood. I wouldn't be totally surprised if DeLeon won the 5th starter spot out of spring training.
  12. were talking about a month worth of production, I don't feel comfortable drawing to big of a conclusion from that, and it seemed like even though his walk rate dropped it was still pretty high over all. I wish I could find your original post, but the amount of back tracking I'd have to do to find it isn't worth the trouble.
  13. This is from ken rosenthal. "De Leon, though, is precisely the kind of young pitcher the Twins need; Fangraphs projects their rotation to again be the worst in the American League. Six years of De Leon would not necessarily constitute a fair return for two affordable years of Dozier, and the Dodgers are willing to include other prospects in the deal, sources say." http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/blue-jays-edwin-encarnacion-mets-jay-bruce-trevor-plouffe-brian-dozier-notes-010517 It seems unlikely it was ever 1:1
  14. Urias and Seager are a step above DeLeon, they traded a former first round pick in Grant Holmes who was pitching well last year when he was dealt. They don't seem totally adverse to trading prospects, but guys who they recently acquired like Buehler, or guys they think can be transformative players like Alverez and Bellinger, they don't want to give them up. As far as some of the guys they've offered up or haven't, I think they knew they'd have to be willing to give the twins something as good as DeLeon to get back a piece as valuable as Dozier, and they could be higher on Bellinger than prospect sites, plus he fits an immediate need they have. Apperently Buehler is throwing harder than he did in college, and his stuff looks really crisp.
  15. But absence of evidence is all we have to criticize him for, the problem is he's been to productive, and his stuff is to good to legitimately criticize, so we have to find SOMETHING to bash on him for, and all there is are "1) His 4 starts in the majors weren't good, 2)He hasn't proven that he can throw 200 innings yet" And the first one is way to easy to poke holes into since it's obviously way to small of a sample to draw any meaningful conclusions from. I mean think of all the players that had a lousy cup of coffee and went on to have a great career, or vice versa. So the only narrative that can be created is "he hasn't thrown 200 innings=he never will"
  16. Except he had shown a consistent year to year increase in durability until last year when he had two separate non related minor injuries that didn't require any surgery, and then went on the throw over 100 innings without any reduction in production. What are we basing him not "having what it takes" on anyway, a one time ankle sprain and a one time sore shoulder?
  17. Or they just got gun shy and didn't pull the trigger because they wanted an over pay to feel safe and the dodgers weren't willing to go that far. Or they got a perfectly good deal but chose to take the calculated risk of holding on to him in hopes that they can get a bidding war going in July.
  18. So he's gone from a #3/4 based on fangraphs projection only, to a back end starter, to a reliever, to a just a long man, I think your running out of ways to demote him? How much longer until he reaches "just a AA long man" But hell, considering the state of the twins bullpen, him being a long man would be a pretty decent upgrade.
  19. Except the dodgers don't push their guys innings wise. That's not their organizational philosophy, and it seems to work for them considering how well they develop pitchers. His first year after being drafted he put up 53 innings. In 2014 he had 77 In 2015 he had 114 he was on a clear trajectory to continue to add innings, but then his season got stalled due to an ankle problem followed by shoulder fatigue, and he still wound up throwing over 100 innings. It would have been nice if he could have got a full year in. But it's not really that big of a deal.
  20. He threw 53 minor league innings in 2013 another 50 or so innings in college that year. 114.1 innings in 2015. And 103 total innings last year 86 in AAA, and 17 in the majors that makes 103 innings.
  21. We don't know that, all we know for sure is that JDL was the agreed center piece to a deal for Dozier, everything else is speculation. And He's thrown more than 100 innings last year, 103 the year before 114, and his collegiate year 110 i think.
  22. The biggest "serious flaw" is his durability right? If he's been healthy the whole year, and racking up high quality innings, well there goes that flaw, and it's not unusual for players specifically college players to break into the majors at 25 anyway.
  23. Just like Kyle Crick, top prospect with a ton of K's and BB's until his K's disappeared and all his success went with it.
  24. Not really, if by All-Star break he's made every start, and he's on around 100 innings pitched, and on pace to hit like 150, has shown improvement on his breaking pitches, and is still striking out a ton of batters and not walking anyone, and still has 6+ years of team control, no one is going to care if he's 24. 3/4 of a year old vs 24.5 years old vs 24.7/12 of a year old.
  25. Why do you keep adding these halfs to his age? If someone asked you your age would you tell them 29 3/4 or something? He's just 24, last year was his age 23 season, this year is his age 24 season.
