  1. If the team is looking to upgrade and is willing to spend some money but not go long term on guys, it sounds like the Dodgers are willing to make Yasmani Grandal available, he has one year of arb left (exp. @ 7.5-8 mill) and even in a down year where his walk% dropped, he was still better than what the twins have. I don't think he'll cost a ton in terms of prospects either because while there are very few good catchers around the league, there are fewer contenders looking for one, other than the DBacks, Rockies, and Nats (and I don't see the Dodgers trying to make their competition better). They could also ask about Brandon McCarthy, who's been good when healthy, they could probably just get him for like half his contract.
  2. Theyre 2nd rounder was a college pitcher Mitch white, and their 3rd was a big strong high schooler named Dustin May fwiw.
  3. Forsythe is pretty good, really solid OBP and has slugged .444 the last two years with an ops over .790 the last two years. Really solid defender too. Dozier definitely the better base runner though. That being said, Dozier isn't better enough to justify DeLeon + Alverez+ more compared to Forsythe, while he would be an upgrade over forsythe, he isn't enough of one to make up the difference in price.
  4. Their first rounders last year were Lux, Sheffield and Will Smith (catcher)
  5. That's because they got sweat to end the season in 3 meaningless games when they were trying guys out to see who would get post season spots.
  6. They have a lot of OF so they could potentially.
  7. Really, I notice they tend to over rank recent draft picks based on ceiling, especially mid season, I kind of wish they would give more credence to players succeeding at higher levels. I remember them ranking Bubba starling top 15 straight out of high school.
  8. The only one of those teams that really matters is the giants, and the dodgers are a better team than the giants.
  9. No, I think the dodgers are a playoff team with or without him, what he dose is increase their odd's of winning the world series, though probably not by much.
  10. Trading for Dozier doesn't guarantee them a playoff spot anymore than resigning Utley. It makes them a little more likely, but it's not chiseled in stone.
  11. I think it's gutsier to push all your chips to the center of the table before you have to, if they do trade for Dozier and they get hit with injuries or bad play or a mix and wind up being noncompetitive, then it'll be foolish to have jumped the gun. It's safer to let the first 3 months play out and then go from there.
  12. That would be an insane return for 3 months of Dozier.
  13. What they could really use is OF and help at 1st/DH which is something the dodgers could provide. A trade centered around Stewart, Verdugo and Calhoun makes sense for both sides. That's 2 near ready top 100 prospects at positions of need, and a starter for their rotation or a hard throwing reliever for their major league roster.
  14. It seems like the twins front office has been using the press much more than the dodgers.
  15. They really need a lead off hitter more. They never really do, that's just the organization the Hill/Reddick trade came out of nowhere last year.
  16. And they're not hesitating to offer him since he's one of the few pieces everyone agrees was offered. Or friedman understands he can't build a trade around Calhoun or Verdugo.
  17. I'm saying it's not prudent to bet on the landscape changing for the positive, because come July the only thing we will know for certain is that Dozier will have less time on his contract than he has now. No one is saying you did, I brought them up. And I brought them up for a reason, the keep Dozier crowd keeps bringing up that the market could change, and lists teams like the mets (while completely ignoring the lack of fit there) as potential suitors for Dozier, but we as fans don't get to chose who needs a 2nd basemen, it would be great if it was the yankees who have a great minor league system, but it just as likely could be the Orioles who have a terrible minor league system.
  18. Unless it's a catastrophic injury, DeLeon has a much greater chance of having his value bounce back since he has so many years of control, he could miss the first half of the season, come up and pitch great the second half of the season and not lose much value, like he did this year....
  19. Well the best player available is kinsler, plus he fills the need of lead off hitter a lot better than Dozier.
  20. If neil walker gets hurt again do you think the twins will trade one of their 2 AAA SS prospects to the twins along with other things? Or just call up one of them to take his place? If the braves are in first ( probably not happening) they could call up one of their SS prospects. What if the angels are more competitive than expected or Schoop gets hurt and the orioles need a new 2nd basemen.(What kind of packages would you expect from the orioles and angels that would be competitive with what the Twins are getting offered right now). Oh yeah, like one difference to the landscape, is there will likely be more sellers as teams that expected to contend fall out of contention. But wouldn't they still be a brian dozier away from going all the way? It's almost like making over paying for players for games they're not guaranteed 9 months from now is short sighted and a bad idea.
  21. Then by that argument, there is literally no pitcher the twins should trade Dozier for, because that's just as true about Reyes of the cardinals, or urias or berrios etc. He was just an example, feel free to substitute in another pitcher like Reyes or anyone else.
  22. If this was an extreme sellers market the twins wouldn't have had to consistently push fake interest in their player to try to get the dodgers to blink. But what if they trade for Dozier and they experience a bunch of injuries to their starting rotation, and Dozier goes 0-fer in the playoffs, then the choras would be, "should have kept deleon, should have kept deleon" etc etc.
  23. He doesn't need to say "a dodgers source said" and doing so could unintentionally revel his source to that sources employers, the source could have asked him specifically not to mention him in any form after providing the information. Also, lets not conflate saying that Dozier hasn't played in a large market is anything close to the whole "pizza gate" nonsense. Or that saying Dozier hasn't played in a large market is the same as promoting a conspiracy about organized child abuse. I don't see why your taking this so personally. Also, it could well be a concern of the dodgers, though their concerns could be tiered, such as; 1)He strikes out a lot 2)He can be incredibly streaky 3)His power is incredibly pull heavy 4)They don't know how he'll adjust to such a large market. But not all of those concerns would necessarily be ranked the same. Lastly, he one of the most respected guys in his industry, he's never been a shill for any team, why would he start now, considering that neither he nor the dodgers had anything to gain by putting that blurb into his article. I get you don't like it, but there really is no need to be jumping to conclusions, or making personal attacks. Not really, it's not as though his contract is going to get longer or more team friendly from this point, he isn't suddenly going to become more valuable going forward. And it's not as though only one team that is trying to compete was interested in him, the problem is the other teams were like the Giants and Angels. Lets say at the deadline you have 4 teams in need of a 2nd basemen, the giants, angels, orioles and marlins, so you have a bidding war, big deal. None of the teams have anything remotely as good as Deleon to offer.
  24. The team was probably never getting an ace in the Kershaw, Syndagard, Bumgarner sense though. Dozier just doesn't have the kind of consistent track record to get that, he's been to streaky throughout his career. He's definitely worthy of a good return, but holding out for a Julio Urias type was never going to be in the cards. I think it'll be even higher by that point.
  25. Why would he want an extension though? He's already made like 6 mill and he has another 15 million on the way regardless of if he's any good or not. Unless this team looks like they'll be competitive at some point during his extension, Why would he bother? I'm sure he loves the organization and the fans blah blah blah etc. but at a certain point a guy can only tolerate being on an uncompetitive team for so long.
