  1. Yes they can walk away, if they do not get a decent offer. I've been advocating for two MLB-ready or near-ready pitchers and 1-2 prospects. I think that's fair. I'd take De Leon, Stewart (the MLB-ready pitchers) and Alvarez, who won't be there for a while. I don't value players very highly unless they've been at AA or higher. I think that's a fair trade.
  2. Not necessarily just spin. The Twins never said they would not consider an offer later. I believe this is just an effort to gauge interest in Dozier, to help decide in which direction they can or should move. For example, moving on from a Dozier trade might mean signing some starting pitchers, ones that otherwise you could acquire via trade. they just want to get this off the table for now - one way or another.
  3. Depending on the market, yes, it's possible. It's possible the Twins get even more for him at the trade deadline.
  4. Dozier has value –whether he's playing for the Twins or as a trade chip. If you enter negotiations saying "we MUST trade him" you immediately lower your negotiating position. If we don't trade him now, he will continue to contribute for the Twins. Other teams may come around. In any case, you still have a player. If he dips back into his average production, for example, we could still go back to the Dodgers - or another team that's made an offer – and ask if they're still interested.
  5. He could have an awesome spring, or an awesome start to the new season. If he starts out hitting like he was at the end of 2016, his value will go up.
  6. I'm saying WHAT IF they don't get what they want for Dozier. Sometimes teams can get obstinate and not see the value in the other team's player(s). Or they do see the value, but don't see how the pieces would fit. Or maybe the Dodgers just are not willing to trade two SP and prospects for Dozier. In that case, I'd move on. See what other teams want to give. Keep him into spring training. Keep him for the start of the year. His value is there. Clearly the Dodgers want him, but will they pay the price? I might want a new car. I might see the one I want, and agree that it's worth a certain value. But that doesn't mean I'll necessarily do the deal. If, as i suspect, it's the Dodgers driving this, what more are they willing to give? If it's the Twins driving this, what more would they give, or what less would the Dodgers be willing to accept? There are lots of points in negotiations. This could still take a while.
  7. You say Dozier needs to go. At all costs? What if the Twins FO cannot get a decent offer for him? Then What? I say IF they trade Dozier, it must be for quality pieces – two near MLB-ready SP. If they cannot get that – from the Dodgers or elsewhere - they are better off keeping Dozier.
  8. I doubt of Dozier would go for that - especially without a no trade clause.
  9. I couldn't agree more.
  10. I would hope so. Dozier is worth it. Proven durable 2B, who hits and hits for power? Right handed - which is what the Dodgers need? Absolutely well worth it. Dozier's value is high right now – but could get even higher. The Dodgers are looking for a right-handed 2B who can hit. Dozier more than exceeds that profile. He hits with considerable power. And he plays a very good 2B. I think it's the Dodgers who are more desperate to get Dozier than it is the Twins who desperately need to trade him for prospects.
  11. I'm not saying we need two top-of-the-line No. 1 in the rotation types for Dozier alone. But we need two capable SP we can possibly plug into the rotation in 2017 and beyond. The best way to turn this team around, in both the near and extended future, is to get two near-ready MLB starters. That's what we need – now. De Leon and Stewart could still be pitching for the Twins in 2018, 2019 and beyond. How is that not helping us in the future? That's why the centerpiece of any trade for Dozier must be two MLB-ready, or near-ready SP. Starting pitching is the cornerstone of our need right now – and in the future. Let's face it: The rotation was a mess last year. Of the starters in 2016, Santana is the only one written in ink. In pencil, Gibson and Berrios. Santiago, maybe. Is Hughes going to be ready? I don't know. Will he have a 2015- or 2016-like season? I don't know. Mays and Duffey may be better suited to the bullpen. I would actually put Justin Haley ahead of them in the rotation right now, at least until we see how they all do this spring. But those pitchers will likely not get us through the 2017 season. We need at least two more. That's my point.
  12. See latest post - I think we were both typing.
  13. And I'm not ready to sacrifice the entire 2017 and 2018 seasons just to get better in 2019 and beyond. Why? Because if you just take the high value prospects who haven't reached AA ball yet, it's really hard to judge if they'll ever make it. We need a quality return for Dozier, including IMHO at least two MLB-ready or near-ready SP, plus one or two prospects (A-ball types). De Leon and Stewart fit the first part of that bill. Now what are the one or two other pieces?
  14. Not ANY two top 75 prospects; I would want starting pitchers in return for him. That's what the Twins need now. And I wouldn't take any SP that haven't at least pitched in AA ball. Even no. 1 draft picks sometimes flame out in A ball. That's why I'm not keen on Alvarez. It needs to be the right two top 75 prospects...
  15. I disagree. NOT making a deal does not make the new FO look bad. Making a bad deal would...
  16. I doubt it. We might be happier if he's with the team!!
  17. If that's the case, and I'm the Twins, I'd leave it.
  18. I don't hate this... Gomber might be close enough to pitching in MLB. I'd like a fourth piece, though.
  19. Murphy's 'F' grade should be an incomplete. He only had 82 PA. Yes, he hit poorly, and then was sent down. The only other one I'd question is Kennys Vargas' 'B' grade. I'd probably give him a B- or C+. He also didn't have a lot of PA. I'm amazed at his stats – .230 BA, .333 on base and .500 slugging, for an .833 OPS. You wouldn't think that of a .230 hitter. Maybe he is worth a 'B' after all...
  20. Quite possible. Too bad. To those who are just looking for "prospects" not MLB-ready or near MLB-ready starting pitchers, here's my take; Yes, it's possible the Twins don't make the playoffs next year. But anything CAN happen. Our youngsters start to play better. Our pitching improves with better catching and leadership. Our veterans can rebound. I believe we can win the division in 2017; Chicago and Detroit appear to be rebuilding; the Royals struggled somewhat – not as much as the Twins – in 2016. Really the best team is the Indians – and they will likely be very good again. But their pitching and/or hitting could falter. They could be plagued by injuries. You never know. All I'm saying is, don't write-off 2017 just because of a bad year. If the Twins had done that in 1991, after looking bad in 1990, they would not have won their second World Series title. If we're going to trade Dozier - and I'm not against it - we have to get real good value back. He is a valuable player. That's why we need two MLB-ready, or near-ready starting pitchers, plus one or two lower prospects, to play in 2017 for Dozier. And I'm perfectly OK with keeping him IF WE DON'T GET A DECENT OFFER. You've got to have some faith that this team can rebound. We have got some really good players. Give them a chance in 2017. Don't write the season off.
  21. St. Louis' top two prospects, Alex Reyes and Luke Weaver are both starting pitchers who reached the major leagues in 2016. Could they and a couple other prospects be traded for Dozier? It's just conjecture at this point.
  22. Darren Wolfson just tweeted this: ‏@DWolfsonKSTP Dozier update: told LAD still very much in it. Here's the new wrinkle: STL very much in it, + Nats & Giants remain in dialogue. #MNTwins That's a new wrinkle indeed! If STL is putting up a similar package to LAD, it could be very interesting...
  23. I couldn't disagree more. Dozier is not "B" level talent. He is a top-20 hitter with power, and a capable defender. That's not B-level, considering how many hitters there are in the major leagues. He's worth a lot more than just De Leon. De Leon is still a prospect. The Twins should get at least one more MLB-ready starting pitcher and one or two more prospects for Dozier. If not, just keep him.
  24. No but he does hit and play a good 2B... He's a top 3 2b. Now what is that worth? I say it's worth two near MLB-ready starting pitchers, and maybe two more prospects. One such pitcher is De Leon. Who is the other?
