    Call me overly optimistic but I certainly hope that the big whiteboard of goals has more on it than: 1) Play for 2019...make decisions that don't mess up the big chance we'll have in '19 After last season's improvement, only thing I'd think they'd be saying is how do we get to 92 wins I agree with Jim, there are all sorts of teams that will be in play for the Wild Card/Playoff Spots...there are only 5 spots available so...Houston, NYY, Cleveland, Boston, LAA, Minnesota plus whoever over-achieves makes for no cake walk to the WC Gotta keep pushing forward!     The lack of a quote showing who cited Babe Ruth as a 2-way player comparison for Ohtani leads me to assume my post may have inspired this one The BR2 reference was a homage to the stories that have been written/tweeted/broadcast about Ohtani being the Babe Ruth (a player who showed promise as both a hitter and pitcher as a young man) of Japan I attempted to clarify this with the egregious closing comment of Ohtani already being declared a HOF player at 23-years old As my aging father has taught me, much to my chagrin...one should never underestimate the 'maybe' of a number 1 and when in doubt always believe in the likelihood of a number 2!

    It's time for some heavy lifting by the FO and the Payroll department before the Armageddon that will hit Salary Structures when Machado, Harper and Kershaw (resigns with Dodgers) are Free Agents and to set the Twins up for some cost certainty for the impending 6 consecutive year playoff run (and I don't mean 6 wild card games) Below is a 6 year plan (names will obviously change in some positions and dollars will move around a little) that would add Starters and Relievers, extend a few grizzled vets and keep the core together all while maintaining a fairly flat payroll for the next 3 years Payroll totals including any Dead Pool Money [table] 2018$136.09M 2019$138.15M 2020$121.80M 2021$151.70M 2022$167.40M 2023$175.40M [/table] I call this Pay As You Know rather than Pay As You Go...you can still look at things from year to year but at least you have some certainty moving forward Do trades become more difficult?
