    No one is complaining about his salary that I can see. The comparison was made by another poster to average people. I have zero problem with ballplayers making big bucks to play a game. Society has decided that sports are more valuable than other walks of life. But you can’t say “well you’ve made a mistake at your job too”. Yeah, everyone has. But when you make 10x what the average person makes, you have 10x less leeway. If you made 10 brain farts a day at your job, you’d probably be canned or sent for more training. Miranda was sent for more training. Seems like a fair deal when you mess up on the basics of your job. Maybe he can learn how to run the bases in AAA and come back when he’s got his head more in the game. And he’d probably not have been sent down if he were hitting better than .167 with 6 hits on the season. But you can’t perform poorly and make mental gaffes. Maybe another guy can come up and give you more for your money.

    He makes $783,110 this year. He is in the top 1% of all US wage earners, earning about 10 times more than the average US worker. The expectations are commensurate with his salary. This is a wild comment.

    Not always. Baseball has to be your life job in order to become an MLB manager. Kind of like becoming a senator. A lot of people have regular 9-5s and just enjoy coaching, while understanding the game very well. I’m sure many average Joe baseball fans could manage in MLB, but teams generally want people who have been around the game at the professional level in some capacity. Works easier in the clubhouse that way

    You can say it was inexcusable, but the booth did their absolute best to make it look like anything other than an embarrassing blunder

    It should definitely matter as the players get their “practice” in more in spring training than during the rest of the season. PFP for example. Base running. Minimal practice gets done during the season, or at least it used to.

    To be fair, if this were the NFL, Rocco would have been fired already. Possibly years ago after his first late season collapse.

    Don’t disagree but you know what, the players can give an effort here. This isn’t August where the season has been dragging along and they’re playing out the string. They’ve been doggy doo doo since day 1, game 1. You can hate your manager’s guts but you should play your best for your own personal pride, if nothing else. If Correa was on his way to being a HOF’er, but he needs a certain coach or manager to hit better than .164, then maybe he’s not a HOF’er after all. Up and down the lineup and all over the pitching staff, people are displaying a lack of effort, mental alertness and ability to complete routine plays. Rocco should be gone but some of these guys are embarrassing themselves all over the field, and they shouldn’t be too far behind him.

    We say it in jest (sort of) all the time, but we have so many players who rarely get on base, I genuinely think they aren’t prepared to actually run the bases. I asked it on the GDT, but what did the team do during spring training? Or was the “new way” just not working on the fundamentals of the game at all???!

    The Miranda play….the booth fell all over themselves to excuse the hilarious gaffe of running off the field when he was called safe. His slide never even reached the bag!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. oh wait, I have.

    I know exaggeration is common here, but it really is not an exaggeration to say that there are multiple gaffes every game. And it’s not just misplaying a ball. It’s mental mistakes that reveal our unpreparedness in almost every facet of the game.

    Some isn’t enough. Maybe twins fans are just happy to be outside when it’s not freezing, seeing some green grass and watching baseball. They demand nothing of their players or FO management by sitting on their hands and tolerating bottom of the barrel play and effort. And that’s what they get. Nothing.
