Shaq Tompson is from my home area.... Beast in Football. Very surprised he was drafted. But the Sox are known to take flyers on athletes! Was just ok against high school pitching. I see by his stats he is really struggling...!! What a great place to watch a gcl game!! I am a little jealous! Maybe Benson is playing jumping to the Miracle for the last part of the rehab assignment since they are in town before heading back to up??
I attended 5 or 6 GCL games last year..... Got to see good baseball! Mostly pitchers not playing that day, a few parents and some scouts from other clubs updating their reports in the stands. I had alot of fun listening to the pitchers talk about everything that you could think of that would come to a 17-20 yr old mind.... And you get to hear it in different languages! You really appreciate the grinding heat/humidity that the 12pm games must play on a player after a season... Derek Rodriguez would be another player to keep your eye on.
Tampa Bay, Red Sox and Twins all have bleachers.

How about the fact that Knudson will be turning 25 in August and they need to see if he can stick... Seems old for A ball? In fact Koch and Rodriguez will be 24 this year. Compared to the few other Midwest teams I looked at we are very old at that position...all 3 catchers(knudson, koch and rodriguez) are older then Pinto and Rohlfing who were at high A.....?? I know age isn't the main determining factor but 24/25 in low A. Rams officially not a catcher? With not catching, he seems to be at risk of sticking around...?
A low level minor league player makes roughly $1100 to $1300 per month when assigned to a team. So during spring training, extended spring training or Instructs they make nothing! So below A ball you work for hotel food and a place to sleep for 3 1/2 months, play GCL or E-Town from June to Aug and make their pay then get nothing the rest of the year. If you make a long season team you get paid from April to Aug but now pay everything yourself.
Playing minor league ball is about the opportunity. Dont fool yourself that its about the money! A minor league player makes below minimum wage and is below poverty. Most are helped by their parents! Those signing bonuses for the high rounds help but how many are getting those...?
Comparing it to an apprenticeship in any other profession I know of its not even close!
Was nice to see the Miracle make a game of it tonight! Santana and his speed makes things exciting! Davis struggled and was very hittable. Hermsen had a solid night. Nothing special just got outs.
Up front, I am not a Gardy fan one way or another...Will getting rid of Gardy help.....?? How? A new manager may make many feel better but when you lack impact pitching and not much more on offense who will a new manager turn to for help?? We cut payroll and have a team that looks like it!
If your pitching philosophy is change speeds and pitch to contact then you better have an offense! Its a culture throughout the organization!
Streich is listed as a pitcher so I guess that conversion has some merit and progressing. I hear he throws hard.
Arias is listed as a catcher. Did that conversion not work out or is he still trying to convert over or listed incorrectly?
I am not sure how you would get details from their games. The extended group plays a combination of intersquad games and games vs the Red Sox and Rays.
Nice showing by all the extended guys with the MLB Twins! They were really the spark plug for the Twins to get the lead! Most played 4 innings or more so you were really able to see them in action! With the Miracle hitting the ball all over the place each player had muliple plays!
Harrison 2 for 3- double
Quesada 1 for 3- double
Kepler 1 for 2
Goodrum 0 for 3
Polanco 0 for1
Goodrum had some very nice plays at SS!! He swings well but I was more impressed with the fielding! I had heard he was rough at SS but it looks like alot of work has gone into his defense!
I was a little surprised Leachman wasnt included in this group...? But I guess you can only play so many.
I really enjoyed watching the Miracle compete yesterday vs the MLB Twins! Miracle have some hitters!! Arcia HR was a shot! Fast hands! Rams, Michael, Morales all had very good days! I was very impressed with Morales and his bat speed!! I am expecting the Miracle to have a great year!!
Seth, any thoughts what they will do with the catchers from this group? Jonathan Arias was reported to being looked at as a pitcher but now back in extended as a catcher. Billy Killian was an older pick up with lots of experience. Matt Parker appeared to be on his way to Beloit based on E-Town performance last year but Beloit has 3 guys including Knudsen. Are these injury/ rehab decisions?
I heard Polanco, Kepler, Goodrum, Quesada and Harrison all will be with the big league club for the exhibition game against Ft Myers Miracle tomorrow.
Should be a good experience for those guys on the extended roster.
Catchers will be Koch and Rodriguez will be for now. Knudson and Chapman are injured and Parker had a possible concussion. Harrison, Goodrum and Kepler will stay in extended for now and most likely going to E-Town.
