  1. Didn't new scouting director come from West Coast....
  2. Carlson was passed on by a lot of teams. Twins didn't miss on him, they and many others went a different direction. Twins don't have a proven history of developing pitchers. They do have for developing athletes that are position players. The pitching situation needs to be solved by f/a and trades. The need is too immediate and great to wait 3-5 years on a maybe.
  3. So is Turner starting an indicator of where Garver's defense is since his hitting was significantly better then Turners for the AFL season? I know only one can start but.....
  4. Swim to DL at Ft Myers
  5. Tyler Jones to Atlanta Braves. Supposed to be placed with High A club. That didn't take long.....
  6. Twins Minor Leaguer Hudson Boyd gets a 50-game suspension for a second violation of a drug of abuse. I hope he can get things back on track!! I believe it puts him playing around June. Does he go back to Cedar Rapids?
  7. Has there been any concerns mentioned in regards to Garver having 2 concussions within a short period last year including the one that held him out of most of the Kernal's playoff run? His bat appears strong enough that could be transferable to another position...?
  8. Tyler Kuresa has signed with the Twins.
  9. Cedar Rapids has 4 catchers as of today on the roster....oddly built rosters based on injuries seems to be a familiar theme. Any idea where they will go with it? CR looks lite on outfielders because of the injuries even with JD Williams. Are there any left in extended you see joining the club? Proctor?
  10. Players were talking that they are expecting moves tomorrow. Truck with AAA and AA players bags leaves this week.
  11. To add to the mix of confusion I believe the players will be changing hotels from the Hilton Garden Inn off College Parkway to the Sheraton off Daniels and Treeline.
  12. Yes, Grimes has been well as of late. Could be benefiting from a number of things..... from the everyday at bats playing infield vs. the rotation of on/off at bats he was getting at the catcher position or maybe not catching at all and not having to deal with the catcher workload on the legs and body....
  13. I have no idea if the Twins view him as a starter or reliever long term.... What I do know is at the beginning of the year his off speed pitches were just ok and he generally used his fastball when in need of a strike. Watching him several times this season his strike out pitch became something off speed alot of the time. That to me is learning how to pitch to hitters that can hit your fastball. That is what is needed from starters going more innings. A plus/plus fastball is a great pitch! But if you don't have something off speed, your chance of success in pro ball at any level by relying on throwing fastballs past hitters sitting fastball is not good!If making him a starter and throwing 100+ innings helped him find those pitches and use them with confidence then great! If it had nothing to do with it and it was CR coaching then great! Either way what role he becomes as he moves up isn't effected by this season.
  14. Yes, the Jairo Rodriguez tour continues with a trip back to Ft Myers.....
  15. Lee was on a 75 pitch limit due the 2 prior complete games. Was pulled with pitch count in 60's due to new inning.
  16. Each year from TR down to cross checkers watch each team play a series or more. I was in e-town last season and saw the asst GM attending games. It's part of their job! As much as some of you question every move or non move their decision shouldn't be from lack of information or personal observations. And yes I can't believe Buxton is still in CR post All Star break...!
  17. I believe Terry Ryan was also in Appleton last night watching the CR game. He is supposed to remain for most/all of the series.
  18. I heard Kepler still not throwing yet......
  19. I believe Beloit ran with 2 catchers the entire season. CR has 3 plus Quesada on the inactive until end of month. Seems like alot. Then again looking at all the rosters we seem to be carrying more catchers then I remember. Does Rodriguez go up? Ft Myers has 2 plus our out/c we just picked up.
  20. Pinto resigned Minnesota Twins Signed: RHP Miguel Munoz (re-signed), LHP Edgar Ibarra (re-signed), C Josmil Pinto (re-signed)
  21. I was attending an Etown game and spoke to a Twins scout that said he thought that Walker had the best "Leverage in his swing" in the twins system including Sano. That Walker may be the one guy in the system who can hit the ball further then Sano on a given swing. He also mentioned Sano was much more consistent with his swing.
  22. well... they are 4-5 OF and 2 Cs in most rosters, so I really see no issues. Also, at this point there are probably 8-10 OFs ahead of him in the minors (let's say the beginning of 2013 and I am not counting the MiLB FAs that Rantz will sign). There are probably 8-10 Cs ahead of him as well. So the numbers make me think that he has higher likelihood in advancing as an OF plus you have to add another year to learn another position as a C. That is academic. Pettersen is 170 lbs with a diving weight belt on Dereck Rodriguez is also close to 150. Stick arms stick legs. Nothing like Pudge and Pudge was closer to 225 than 205... Not to be too argumentative here. You are trying to compare Rodriguez at age 40 to Pettersen at age 24. I would wager that Pudge at 24 weighed closer to Pettersen at age 24 than to Pudge at age 40. Derrick is currently listed at 160 and his genetic background suggests he'll likely end up with at least a somewhat similar profile to his father's. Furthermore, here is an article from the NY Times in 2005: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/25/sports/baseball/25pudge.html A pull quote from it: "(Last night, he said he weighed 187 pounds, compared with 215 last season.)" Besides the references and allegations to prior steroid use, Pudge did drop the weight starting in 2005, for his mid-to-late 30s to prolong his career, and returned to his more natural body-type. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that Derreck Rodriguez could get to the majors faster with the Twins by considering the catcher option (appears to be a winning strategy for Hermann). Passing the relatively non-descript list of 8-10 catchers in the Twins system is not much of a hurdle for a superior athlete, even one who is still super-skinny. And he does have a HOF catcher for a Dad with whom he can consult on his development. Time to hit the weights Derreck, to get on a faster track to the majors- or look to be traded to another team needing an OF sooner than the Twins will be doing so. He has a better chance of pitching then catching....
  23. The players get their meal money and room for Est and Instructs. Spring Training they get the room and hotel food.
  24. You are correct! I stand corrected! My bad! I was looking at the South Atlantic League for that night......where they probably dont have Friday Night Football to compete with!
  25. If I remember correctly, a couple of the other Midwest playoff games that night had attendance of 3000 and 4000.
