  1. Nice job explaining both parts of the issue. I think Brian Dozier needs to continue to develop as a player so sending him to Rochester for a few months makes a lot of sense. I have always seen Jamey Carroll as a stop gap at shortstop until Dozier is ready. I believe Carroll will take over at second base and Casilla will become the untility guy. I sure hope Nishioka does not make the roster out of spring training because he looks lost on the field.
  2. Shanewahl, Do you ever think for yourself or just let other people do it for you. Sano lives in a country (D.R.) where they don't record births in hospitals. This of course means he does not have a birth certificate to prove how old he is. Every scout has stated Sano is the biggest 18 year old propsect they have ever see. Sano could say he is 16 years old right now and nobody would be able to prove he is wrong. He had about $3 million reasons to lie about his age before the Twins signed him. Well in my world 2 t 2 still equals 4. See Livan Hernadez for more information. In regards to the comment "Who cares." The Twins should care they shelled out big money thinking Sano was only 18 years old and still developing. Now if Sano was 22 he would not be as valuable a prospect because he is in Beloit and 4 years older.
  3. Does anybody know how Rosario looks defensively at 2B since the position change.
  4. I like Liam Hendriks and he could get much better.
  5. The Twins minor league system could even be worse after the Twins take Byron Buxton, Mike Zunino, or Devin Marrero with the #2 overall pick. Mark Appel will be gone and the chance to get a #1 pitcher will somehow find a way to elude the Twins again. I'm so sick of hearing about Miguel Sano. He has good power but struggles to make contact. He can't field to save his life and most likely is not 18 but more like 22. There was a ton of hype regarding Henry Sanchez (39th 1st round pick in 2005) and he never even made to the big show. Sano might turn into a great hitter but is most likely a DH at best for the Twins.
  6. Mrkwx, I meant they have no pitchers in Rochester to help if the rotation and bullpen struggle. I think there is a better chance of the world coming to an end than that not happening.
  7. John, Span is a tremendous player when he is healthy and that's a fact. However, sitting out two spring training games because of a stiff neck is pretty funny. Let's be totally honest, Gardenhire has coddled Span, Mauer, and Morneau so much all they have to do is say they are sore and they get a day or two off. No other manager walks through the clubhouse before a game and asks people if they want to play. The great ones (Scioscia, Madden, Leyland, and Ozzie) would never do that. It's time for a change!!
  8. Mike Wants Wins, Have you watched any spring training games at all. Plouffe can't catch the ball and that is a fact. He is a DH at best and will be waived by the middle of the year if Benson is ready.
  9. Seth, The season has not started yet. Span missed 101 games over the last two years. He played hurt during the second half of 2010 and deserves credit for being tough. However, I bet Revere won't ask for a day off or miss time due to injuries.
  10. Casilla has never even played 100 games in a season. The Twins need him to stay healthy and get off to a fast start.
  11. Please cut Terry Doyle and send Alex Burnett back to Rochester. This year Kyle Waldrop and Carlos Gutierrez should make the roster out of spring training along with Jared Burton. My fear is these two guys never even get given a chance.
  12. ScrapTheNickname, Don't worry my friend soon Target Field will be deserted like a ghost town. This team will lose 90 plus games easily and trying to sell a winning product to fans has been tough for the front office after 2011. I love Terry Ryan but just bringing him back is not enough. Give him a decent payroll to work with so he can get some pitching help. The Twins were 4th in MLB in ticket sales and attendance. This will soon change after 2012. There is nothing wrong with being optimistic but also be realistic.
  13. Denard Span is out with a stiff neck again. Span is becoming a Stiff............Ever since the Twins bought out his arbitration years he has been injured. Phil Mackey keeps telling everybody his contract is very managable and dirt cheap. I would agree with that statement if Span played more than 80 games a year. He has been as injury prone as Mauer & Morneau over the last seasons. Imagine that, this is when he signed his 4-year contract!! Starting to think the Twins missed their chance to unload him to Washington for an elite reliever like Drew Storen. I was against the trade but at some point you have to show some heart and play through some aches and soreness. I still think Ben Revere will be a very good player and should be in CF. Span is coddled by Gardy and Revere just shows up to play anywhere with a smile on his face.
  14. Seth, I agree with you!! Michael Cuddyer type production would be fantastic. I believe that Ryan was looking towards the future and viewed Benson as somebody who could replace Cuddyer in the outfield. I love his athletic ability but can he make the improvements needed to be an everyday player? I sure hope so because he is fun to watch. He is not afraid of making mistakes and plays the outfield (Like Revere) with no fear.
  15. The Twins beat the Yankees minor league squad today. It's too bad they can't beat the Yankees starters during the season. What is the Great Gardenhire's lifetime record again vs the Yankees, not counting all the playoff sweeps?
  16. John, The answer to each question is NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!
  17. ShaneWahl, My mistake Joe Benson is 24 and will start his first full season at Rochester in 2012. This should tell you all you need to know about his developement? Superstar players would be in the big leagues by now (See Jason Heyward, Evan Longoria, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden for more). Benson could become a great player but there is no doubt his development is slower than most 5-tool superstars. He also still struggles to make contact and strikesout way too often. I sure hope this is the year he finally comes to fruition. However, I will not hold my breath!!
  18. Jim, I totally expect Terry Doyle to make the roster out of spring training with the Twins. Every blogger who has talked about the bullpen situation predicts Doyle will make the roster. The guy is 26 and has never pitched about .AA in the minor leagues. That should tell you all you need to know. Why do the Twins always pick up other team's rejections. The answer is obvious because they are cheap. If they were good players out there you would see New York, Boston, and Phily go after them. At some point you have to spend some money to build a winner.
  19. Please Mr. Ryan cut Terry Doyle now. What a disaster!! Please give Kyle Waldrop and Carlos Gutierrez a chance to make the roster.
  20. Any plan that has Tsuyoshi Nishioka in Rochester is the plan to go with. I really like Pedro Florimon at shortstop he looks so smooth and effortless defensively. He could be a nice stopgap until Dozier is ready. I think the front office has to accept that Nishioka is not a major leaguer player and the sooner the better. Wow, 2011 was a nightmare!!
  21. I'm really surprised how everyone just assumes Terry Doyle will make the roster out of spring training because he was a Rule 5 draft pick. He is Scott Diamond Jr and Kenny Williams is not going to let a good pitcher go to the Twins. Williams knows that Doyle is terrible and that's why he did not protect him. Meanwhile people are talking like Doyle is the answer to a bullpen that has more question marks than the Riddler.
  22. Alex Burnett is a straight up BUM...What in the world would make anyone think he will be good...Why because he is 23 and pitched well at AA. Slama has much more promise than him and is not even on the 40-man roster. Burnett has 3 pitches with no movement and that just does not cut it in the pros. The Twins traded for a Burnett clone in Lester Oliveros and he is terrible too. Straight ball right down the middle of the plate. For all those people who have crowned Maloney and Doyle (2 more bums), who exactly have they pitched against. Waldrop and Gutierrez have a chance to good but will never get a chance.
  23. Seth, What about Carlos Gutierrez?? I have to believe he has a legitimate chance of making the team out of spring training if he pitches well. I also think he should replace Alex Burnett who has has every opportunity in the majors and disappointed.
  24. Mike wants wins, I totally agree with you!! This is where GM Terry Ryan being in charge again will really help out. The upcoming draft is a very important one for the Twins in June.
  25. Blackburn had two solid seasons (2008 & 2009) for the Twins where he threw over 190 innings. The last few years he has struggled to stay healthy and his numbers have went dramatically down. His innings pitched went down, his walk totals went up, and his ERA suffered because of it. There is no doubt the 4-year contract (2010-2013) was a bad deal financially for the Twins. However, with Baker ($9.5 option), Liriano, Pavano, and Marquis all potentially leaving as free agents in 2013 it would be nice to have some stability with the #5 spot in the rotation. If Blackburn could chew up more innings and keep the ball out of the seats, he would be much more valuable.
