  1. Jim, The Pohlad family is swimming in money since Target Field was built. They cut payroll by $15 million and will pocket another $28 million if Justin Morneau retires? The 6-year contract Morneau signed in 2007 is insured and the Twins will get most of their money back on that investment if he hangs it up. So that's a total of $38 million going back into their Swiss bank account before the 2012 season begins. They sure have not lost too many season ticket holders with almost 90-95% renewing their tickets and 3,000 people in the on deck circle. However, without the front office investing more money into the product, Target Field will be like a ghost town within the next couple years. I sure as heck hope I'm wrong.
  2. Alex Burnett has all the ability in the world there is no question about it. However, how long can the Twins afford to wait on him to put it all together. My guess is one more year because he has one option left.
  3. Well it looks like Baseball America delivered another blow to the future of the Twins organization...Not a shocker but depressing...
  4. Not sure why Ryan waited so long. Good riddens!!!
  5. I believe it's very fitting to say manager Ron Gardenhire has set the Twins organization back 10 years. And 10 years is being nice. The guy is a class A bum and could screw up a wet dream.
  6. Why is everyone so concerned that a 24 year old player (Dozier) who is good enough to play at the major league level starts at Rochester. I just don't understand the thinking here?? The ultimate goal is for him to play with the Twins for the next 5-7 years so let him get some experience at the big league level. He will take his lumps but who cares the team is not going to win more than 70-75 games anyways. I mean why not just leave him at Rochester for 3 more years of experience before bringing him up. This is deluded thinking and the people that want Dozier to get "More seasoning" will never be happy with how much time he spends in the minors. Dozier came out of nowhere to have a great year and proved it was no fluke with a good AFL performance. Naturally the next step would be to start at SS on opening day for the Twins. Sending him back to Rochester makes absolutely no sense at all. By the way Terry Ryan said he wants Nishioka to play SS everyday at Rochester. Basic mathematics tells you Dozier will be in Minnesota this year.
  7. I think Justin Morneau will retire before the season ends. It's sad to talk about but reality. I love the potential of Chris Parmelee in the Twins lineup.
  8. diehardtwinsfan, I agree with you. It probably will be another outfielder.
  9. I don't understand the logic here. If Tsyoshi Nishioka is at Rochester starting at SS when is Brian Dozier going to play. I can almost asure you he will break camp with the Twins. He is 24 years old and ready. This idea that you have to play in Rochester for three years like Span is crazy talk.
  10. John, I will remind you that you posted an article saying "There is no way Nishioka does not make the team." You were wrong about that and are wrong about Brian Dozier now. He is ready and clearly their best option!!
  11. Seth, I agree with you it's been fun to watch...Do you think Michael Hoilliman has a legitimate chance to make the roster or is it just fun talk..He had to win a few points today with a great game and Ryan watching.
  12. For all those Revere haters who say he has no power, everytime he gets on base it's like a double or triple with his speed. He is a very valuable player to the team if he can get on base more often and learn how to bunt.
  13. Jim, I think Hollimon has a legitimate shot if he keeps playing this well.
  14. Hollimon is 3-3 today and Nishioka is 0-2.
  15. Jim H, He is making the same mistakes defensively as last year. Not clearing the bag on double plays, not watching the ball into his glove, not understanding game situations, and just can't adjust to how fast the game is here in the U.S.
  16. Seth, I honestly had never heard of Michael Hollimon until this spring. However, it's tough to overlook the spring he is having. He most likely won't make the roster but fun to root for the underdog. He is this year's Luke Hughes.
  17. Seth and John, Does Tsuyoshi Nishioka make the roster out of spring training if Hollimon does not? He has looked completely lost all spring and it just does not make sense to take him north. I mean is the front office trying to minimize the fact that they signed this guy. Ryan usually does not cover for anybody in the organization, but there is no doubt as a talent evalator, he has to be upset about what he has seen from Nishioka this spring.
  18. Does Michael Hollimon have any chance of making the roster as a bench player? He has been pretty impressive and can play multiple positions. You have to think there are three locks in Hughes, Butera, and Plouffe. However, not sure how Twins can send Nishioka north after more bone headed plays this spring. Not to mention he really can't play 3B.. Burroughs has been ok, but Hollimon has really looked good.
  19. Thrylos98, Nice job finding this rule.
  20. Scott Baker has had tendonitis in his right elbow for 2-3 years. That is a pretty long bout of tendonitis?? Sure glad we did not upgrade our starting rotation this winter and had a backup plan. We most likely will lose 100 games and it's not even close.
  21. This can't really be a huge surprise to anyone...There are only two people who have defended Nishioka and that was Smith and then Ryan. They both said Nishioka deserved a "Mulligan" for last year. Ryan only said it to defend his friend Smith for making a huge mistake by signing him.
  22. Seth, I completely agree with you assessment. I know it's a SHOCKER. What about Carlos Gutierrez?? He has more upside than probably all three guys (Burton, Maloney, and Waldrop). How long do the Twins keep him at Rochester? What happens if they do sign Michael Wuertz to a minor league deal? Does he have any shot at making the team this late in camp? I know it's a slim chance but they could sign him.
  23. Seth, I sure hope your right. I believe Jared Burton and Matt Maloney at this point are locks too. I was really hoping for Gutierrez to make it as well but maybe some more time in Rochester would do him some good. Gutierrez has way more upside than Maloney that is for sure.
  24. Parker, Great article!! It's your turn Kyle Waldrop. Let's hope the idiot manager does not screw it up by deciding to go with Burnett or Doyle. The way he plays favorites is something that at least has to be considered.
