  1. I'm a firm believer that Gardenhire and Bill Smith had a terrible relationship. It'll be interesting to see how things go now that Smith is out of the picture.
  2. I cannot freaking believe we've gone to page 6 on the subject of Tsuyoshi Nishioka and the 25th roster spot. I love it. This site is going to destroy all my relationships with real people, but I love it.
  3. I'll be the rainbow-barfing unicorn. I think you're right - almost the entire rotation should be better. So should the defense. The bullpen can't be much worse than it was. And the lineup is going to be a ton better. Even if Morneau is only an average 1B, that's a pretty good top of the lineup, and don't forget that he wasn't exactly critical to the 2010 division run. Finally, I'll point out that Gardy's teams have been at their best when they came into a season as underdogs. For whatever reason, they've struggled with success, but he's got enough "F U" to him to motivate a team that feels like they're being underestimated. I'd be a lot happier with another bench bat and rhed bullpen arm, and I consider it borderline criminal they didn't pick those up, but that's precisely because I believe this team could have a chance. I wouldn't care otherwise.
  4. It'll be interesting to see if the Twins target a college pitcher with that #2 pick to remedy that situation. It would certainly make sense, not just because they're short on pitching prospects, but also because grabbing a college pitcher would mean his MLB ETA is corresponding with a lot of these other names.
  5. I, for one, would love to see it work, just because it might change how players who have been out for a year are viewed. Too often a guy ends up being out of work for a year and then that's it. I'd love to see a counter-example.
  6. Nice. Thanks for joining the party Topper!
  7. If you click on Settings at the top of the page, it'll open a page where "Edit Avatar" is on the left.
  8. Ah, got it emoeby. I'll see if we can control that.
  9. Ah, yes, I've got some email on this subject too. Here's the deal: We tried, and we failed. WE consolidate the RSS feeds of other Twins blogs using Feed Informer, which can be temperamental. Feed informer gives you embedded code to include a customized feed on your web site. Unfortunately, when we tried to do this, it ALWAYS screwed up the site. I tried it a half a dozen different ways and within hours, it would make some other crucial component disappear. So we used a "RSS widget" that comes with the vbulletin software, but we have no control on what it shows or doesn't. So if anyone has any better ideas, we're all ears. I have probably spent 6-8 hours futzing around with this.
  10. Sorry, that last comment was from me. I was using the admin ID, working on the site.

  13. Aaron and John broadcast from Lindsay Guentzel's MLB Fan Cave Voting Party. They discuss each of the Twins pitchers, including a spirited discussion about the relative values of Carl Pavano and Scott Baker. Then they finish by talking about the new TwinsDaily web site. You can find: the podcasts the rss feed if you want to subscribe and the podcast on iTunes (where you can also subscribe and leave reviews). Thanks! [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

  16. Huh, that's an interesting question. Off the top of my head, I'd say Yankees and maybe White Sox. But having fallen in love, I gotta say, I'm not sure it would have mattered. Hmmm. I guess it depends - do I find out before or after the "fireworks" moment. If after, I'm a goner. If before, I can maintain a little integrity.
  17. Cody, great story. I've promoted it to the front page. You might want to make sure to add links back to your excellent independent blog so people can find more from you, too. Please continue any comments here: http://twinsdaily.com/content.php?224-Twins-will-use-Nathan-s-blueprint-for-Zumaya
  18. Great overview! I've promoted this to an article for the front page. Please continue any comments here: http://twinsdaily.com/content.php?223-Fort-Myers-Spring-Training-Guide
  19. I'm not huge on Wuertz, but it has been a collossal mistake to not get another semi-reliable right-handed arm to add to the Twins bullpen. They were there, they were cheap and there is almost definitely going to be a need. It might be that the Twins are having some trouble objectively evaluating their in-house options.
  20. I'd put the chances of the Twins breaking camp with 3 catchers at 99%. Between Gardenhire's predilection towards a 3rd catcher, his inability to stomach Doumit's defense and the fact that there isn't another really desirable option (like a good bench bat), I don't see anyway that this team doesn't have a 3rd catcher. Oh, and it'll be Butera. OK, I'll throw in one caveat. If Doumit gets hurt and put on the DL, then I can see them going without a 3rd catcher. Which isn't all that unlikely, actually. Make that 80%.
  21. Joe C does a nice job of approaching two touchy subjects: the Yankees consistently killing the Twins and the new playoff format. The story is here: http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/139705083.html First, he gives these quotes from Cashman: I don't take that as disrespect. But it's not like they were quivering in their boots, either. Then Joe finishes with this thought: I couldn't agree more. I'm generally against expanding the playoffs, but I love that winning the division will mean something again.
  22. emoeby, Look for little orange rectangles on each page - those are the rss feeds. I've been using them, and they seem to be good. I'm not sure I understand the 2nd question. Where are you not seeing the authors? I see them onthe articles, blog posts, threads, etc. Or are you talking about something else?
  23. I think it's mostly asking price, or at least best situation. Oswalt clearly missed the boat on the prime time to sign, so he's in a position where he needs to sign a one year deal and he's looking for the best possible situation - i.e. a contending club. So it appears he's waiting to see if the Cards or Rangers can free up enough payroll to add him at $7M or so per year, as opposed to the $3-4M they have available. I'll admit, I'm puzzled as to why this hasn't happened yet, too.
  24. I'll throw this out, too - they paid a LOT more for Carroll than I thought he would draw as a free agent, especially for a 2-year contract. If that 38-year-old breaks down, or just can't handle things defensively or withstand the everyday grind, it might be that the Punto contract looks like the best of the three contracts. It is weird - this organization would obviously value an elite shortstop as much or more than most other MLB teams. It seems to be weaved into their DNA. But they have had absolutely no luck (or skill) in getting one that sticks. Bartlett has proved to be no great shakes, but given the replacements, one can argue trading him hurt the team more than trading Garza.
  25. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing it. I especially love the idea of naming someone "The Spaniard," but not Span, cause he doesn't really have any ties to Spain. Instead, I vote for... me. Cause I don't either.
