  1. ...and isn't necessarily committing to a 3rd catcher. First, I'll believe it when I see it. But it will be interesting to see of Ryan would consider signing a bench bat if Gardy has the guts to leave Butera waiting in Rochester. I don't know if any of these guys look especially productive, but Carlos Lee, Derrek Lee and.....Jim Thome are all still unsigned. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/192323891.html
  2. Well, if you like him, maybe you should have put a ring on it.
  3. Right field is closer (and feels a lot closer) to the infield than left field at Target Field. It's also uncovered, so you can get more sun (though the sun is far more prevalent down the 3rd base line. I know they redid some seating in the right field area, but I bet they made it better. That area is the Overlook, section 136, 137 and 138. It looks like tickets vary from $13 to $41 depending on the date. I'd go for those, either from the Twins or stubhub.
  4. A melancholy story by Charley Walters, who talks to Rick Stelmaszek. Stelmaszek was fired as bullpen coach after last season and is not in Fort Myers this year. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_22632347/charley-walters-after-43-years-void-ex-twin?source=rss
  5. Admit it. You were looking for a picture, right? Willingham calls it "zany promos for Fox Sports North." Whatever. I don't need FSN to give me an excuse to feel pretty. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22637041/minnesota-twins-josh-willingham-dresses-part-promo
  6. It sounds like he's going to be all right. He kept pitching, though with a screen in front of him. Clete Thomas was the bad guy.... The one who has something to worry about might be Meyer. I mean, Clete Thomas hit one of your pitches. You deserve what you get when that happens. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22637093/minnesota-twins-pitcher-alex-meyer-fine-after-being
  7. I don't know if we already knew this, or just figured it was the case. But Rhett Bollinger of MNTwins.com is reporting that Pedro Florimon is the favorite to be the shortstop on Opening Day. History tells us how he's going to swing the bat: like someone visually challenged. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130220&content_id=41819358&notebook_id=41819384
  8. Looks like Kevin Correia is starting the Twins spring training opener on Saturday. That's partly because the team wants him to have two starts before he leave training camp on the 27th for the birth of his child. I'd sure love to be wrong about this signing, at least for this year. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130220&content_id=41819358&notebook_id=41819630
  9. Looks like the new version of MLB At Bat for iphone, ipad, android, etc. was released today. (Although it looks like there is another update coming by Opening Day). http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130220&content_id=41838748 If you aren't living in Twins Territory and have an iPhone or iPad, I would HIGHLY recommend exploring MLB.TV which includes a download of this app for free. It allows you to watch games on your iPhone. I know I'm old, but I still can't believe how easy and what high quality this is. It also looks like I can be notified now when the "condensed" version of a game has been uploaded so I can watch the games that I miss.
  10. Stumbled across this story this morning. The Twins have signed Patrick Arnold, a former Nationals farmhand. His minor league numbers don't exactly jump out. Sure enough, he's coming back from an injury. But he seems like a quality guy who is pretty involved with his community: Welcome to the Twins, Patrick. http://www.wsaz.com/sports/headlines/Former-HHS-Pitching-Standout-Patrick-Arnold-Signed-to-Pros-192187531.html

  12. The community has cranked out a couple more good blog posts, including a "must-read"…. John Swol finds the first Sports Illustrated cover to feature a Minnesota Twin. Tony Oliva was the cover boy, but the real treasure is the feature-length story inside by William Legget about that World Series bound team. I consider this is a must-read. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Ericchri has his first blog post – and it’s 1700 words long. Sounds like a natural to me. Stoy by and read his +/- grading of this year’s Twins team and let him know what you think. Finally, the talented Cody Christie tackles the lack of controversy surrounding Justin Morneau’s next contract. He points out that it could be that neither side is especially anxious to make that deal.
  13. You've got it exactly right. This is almost precisely what happened to me eleven years ago. Welcome to the Twins blogosphere. We're glad to have another member. I'm looking forward to seeing how your writing style changes.
  14. The idea of trading Harden at the deadline is an interesting one, and I'm guilty of overlooking it. One of the things I don't like about the Twins signings this winter is that they have these guys with health issues, but don't have any option years on them. But both Pelfrey and Harden could conceivably be flipped at the deadline. Not for anything special, but maybe a AA guy who looks like he's going to develop into a serviceable shortstop, or a AA pitcher that might be a mid-rotation starter or a power bullpen arm.
  15. I'll admit it: I was rooting for the Netherlands in the last WBC. I did not know this little tidbit about the WBC: I wonder what Blyleven would be like as a pitching coach. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_22624138/charley-walters-bert-blyleven-doesnt-see-his-wbc
  16. It could play out that way. I feel like Gardy is way too competitive and wants to see this thing through. You'll recall that TK, when he stepped down, waited until he got through the dark times. 2001 was when things came together, though they finished poorly.

  18. Twins Daily has it’s own “farm system” of independent writers. You can check out on our Blog page. Here are a couple of recent posts you might find interesting: Thrylos takes a look at the Twins roster and finds quite a few spots up for grabls this spring. MNFanForLife takes a look at Eddie Rosario’s combined regular season and winter stats and likes what he sees. Brad Swanson takes a look at the Twins with the most to prove. Stop by and let them know what you think.
  19. I don't think Ryan works like that. I still think the most likely way Gardenhire is fired is if Ryan steps down. And I think Ryan has done enough for future years to weather this one.
  20. Well, sure, but there isn't a pitcher or player you can't say that about. Even now, I would call it borderline crazy to promise Baker 9.25M. I understand you have lots of confidence in Baker. I don't.
  21. Nor did Cuddy ever have a run of success like Plouffe did already this season. I wonder if the move to RF actually helped Cuddyer, or just happened to be where he was playing when he started hitting. I wish I would have asked him that when he was here.
  22. Turns out, he still went through with it with a (I think) Philly girl: Boy, I might have taken that as a free pass to delay things a bit. I'm just saying.... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130219&content_id=41791208
  23. I can't believe that Gardenhire meant things this way, but it almost sounds like he would consider adding some of the young power arms to the roster.... On second read, I don't see any Gardenhire quotes about the roster, specifically. Maybe he's just taking a special interest in the prospect. God knows, the rest of us are.... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130219&content_id=41792872&notebook_id=41792882
  24. Tom Powers has a full length story on Eddie Rosario. Turns out it was supposed to be done last June, but that was the day Rosario was hit by the BP line drive in the kisser. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22622345/tom-powers-twins-prospect-eddie-rosario-back-track
  25. Per Mike Beradino, Sam Deduno will be pitching for the Dominican Republic team (though it doesn't say in what role). And Jamey Carroll has been added to Team USA's reserve list.
