  1. Seth and Jeremy will cover the recently-released Arizona Fall League rosters. We'll also project the September call-ups. Minor league season is winding down. Who's in? Who's out? Who's still fighting for a playoff spot? The links for tonight's show are available here: Our event page and our .If you want to catch up on any previous shows, visit here: our webpage or download from iTunes. 2. Oh yeah. Depending on how he does in the AFL (if he goes), I could see him being a Top 10-15 prospect in the organization.
  3. I would guess he'd start the year in EST and if there is a need in CR, he could make his debut there before the Appy League starts.
  4. The Twins had a day off today. But still made the news when Trevor Plouffe and Danny Santana were named co-AL Players of the Week. The Twins and Red Wings announced a two-year extension to their partnership that will carry through 2016. The Twins released Carson Goldsmith, Lance Ray and Jake Proctor. Learn about what happened in Monday's games below.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 4, Scranton/WB 2 Box Score Alex Meyer was on the hill on Monday night for one of his last couple starts of the season. In attendance was Twins GM Terry Ryan. Ryan got to witness Meyer throw, what I believe to be a career-high, 105 pitches. In six innings, Meyer allowed two runs on seven hits, including three doubles and a home run and three walks. He struck out four in picking up a win. A.J. Achter picked up a three-inning save (his sixth at AAA), striking out three and allowing a single hit. Pedro Florimon had two hits, including a triple, drove in a run and has increased his average to .257. On Monday, he batted in the two-hole. Doug Bernier also contributed two hits, while Chris Herrmann, Chris Colabello and Danny Ortiz all added doubles. The Red Wings find themselves 1.5 games out of the playoffs with six games left. ROCK CATS REVIEW New Britain 1, Binghamton 4 Box Score The Rock Cats dropped Monday night’s game when Edgar Ibarra gave up three eighth-inning runs. Mason Melotakis worked a two-hit seventh following a six-inning start by Taylor Rogers. Rogers struck out six, but walked four. He gave up a single run while throwing 103 pitches. Levi Michael continued his hit parade. With two more on Monday, he’s up to .354 at New Britain. Eddie Rosario doubled and Reynaldo Rodriguez drove in the team’s only run. Jorge Polanco committed his 9th AA error. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 2, Bradenton 3 Box Score Starter Brett Lee failed to complete five innings. He gave up three runs on six hits and four walks. He only struck out one. He’s season ERA of 2.48, though, is still quite impressive. Madison Boer (2.1 IP) and Brandon Peterson (1 IP) both allowed two hits without walking or striking out anyone. The offense gathered only five hits. Stuart Turner hit his sixth home run and stole his seventh base. Aderling Mejia and Travis Harrison added doubles. Harrison drove in the other RBI. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 2, Quad Cities 3 Box Score Stephen Gonsalves was dealing Monday night, but ended up with a no decision. He struck out 10. While he didn’t walk anyone, he did allowed two runs on two hits (home runs can do that). In other words, Gonsalves pitched well, but was stuck with bad luck. Jared Wilson took the loss. He struck out four in two innings, but also gave up a home run. Josue Montanez pitched a scoreless eighth. The Kernels struck out 18 times… so there isn’t that much to say. Tanner Vavra and Michael Quesada both doubled during their two-hit nights. Quesada and Ryan Walker drove in the team’s runs. E-TOWN E-NOTES Elizabethton 2, Bristol 4 Box Score Tyler Kuresa had two hits and Pat Kelly doubled to provide most of the E-Twins offense tonight. Nick Gordon went 0-for-4. Brandon Poulson had a rough night. In recording four outs, Poulson allowed only one hit, but also a run, three walks, a throwing error and a wild pitch. He did strike out one. Cameron Booser took the loss. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 3, GCL Rays 12 Box Score There is plenty to write about the Rays' 12-run, 16-hit outburst... but there's markedly less to write about the Twins. Amaurys Minier drove in all three runs on his 8th home run of the year. Seth Wagner faced eight batters... seven reached on hits, one reached on a walk and all came around to score. Brandon Easton gave up three runs on seven hits too. 8. Trevor May made his Target Field debut on Monday night and fared much better than in his previous appearances. Oswaldo Arcia continues to show impressive power. On the minor league side of things, it should come as no surprise that Terry Ryan doesn't expect Byron Buxton to play another game for New Britain this season. It sounds like instructional league and the Arizona Fall League are still in play though. Continue reading to get caught up on all of Monday's minor league action.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 6, Syracuse 2 Box Score Yohan Pino cruised through seven shutout innings before allowing a two-run home run to the second batter he faced in the eighth inning. He struck out five while walking one and allowing three hits. Stephen Pryor picked up his first save with his new organization. He struck out two in two no-hit innings. After getting shut out for the first five innings, the Red Wings crossed the plate in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Josmil Pinto led the charge with two hits and two runs batted in. Danny Ortiz doubled in his two-hit game. Pedro Florimon, batting ninth and playing third base, also recorded a two-hit game. The Red Wings now find themselves in a tie for 3rd place in the International League North, two games behind the PawSox, who are currently the Wild Card leaders. ROCK CATS REVIEW New Britain - DAY OFF MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers - DAY OFF KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 4, Quad Cities 2 Box Score The Kernels extend their season-long winning streak to seven games behind an impressive performance from Chih Wei-Hu. Hu struck out eight in six three-hit innings. He allowed only an unearned run to score. Brandon Bixler and Dallas Gallant combined to strike out six in the last three innings to preserve the win. Logan Wade had two hits, including a double. Mitch Garver and Jonatan Hinojosa also doubled. The Kernels used a very balanced attack. Wade was the only player to both score and drive in a run. E-TOWN E-NOTES Elizabethton 4, Princeton 6 Box Score E-town fell short in their comeback. Jeremias Pineda did as much as he could, going 3-for-5 with two triples (wheels!) and two runs scored. Brian Navarreto extended his hitting streak to five games, including home runs in the last two games. Navarreto has struggled with the bat since turning pro, but he’s hitting .294 in August this year. Nick Gordon was 1-for-5. His first-inning double knocked in Pineda for a brief lead. John Curtiss struck out seven in six innings. He allowed three runs on six hits. Cameron Booser and Josh Burris closed out the game for the E-Twins. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 1, GCL Orioles 3 Box Score The GCL Twins didn’t have a lot of pep in their bats for Monday’s game. Amaurys Minier had an RBI triple in the ninth inning to drive in the team’s only run. Rainis Silva was 1-for-5 with a double and three strikeouts, but he’s someone to keep an eye on: Since the turn of the monthly calendar, the young Venezuelan is batting .342/.390/.447. Alexis Tapia took the loss allowing three runs in four innings. Callan Pearce and Jhon Silva each pitched two scoreless frames. 12. You're absolutely right. I must have just been so excited about Buxton's home run.
  13. Lots of things going on today. While the Twins are opening their series in Houston, the affiliates have a full slate of games. Though two teams are enjoying the day off, two others are playing doubleheaders. The Twins had to make a move before Monday night's game. It may have caught some of us by surprise. Many highlights occurred Monday in the minors of Twins Territory and they will be detailed after the bump.Late last night it was reported that RP Nick Burdi and 3B Bryan Haar would be going from Cedar Rapids to Fort Myers. Filling their spots in Cedar Rapids would be the activation of P Kohl Stewart and the return of INF Jonatan Hinojasa. (No word on how Fort Myers is making room.) EDIT: Darren Wolfson tweeted around 10:20 pm that Byron Buxton has been promoted to New Britain. Today, P Virgil Vasquez was moved from New Britain to Rochester to start the second game of their doubleheader. That left a spot in the Rock Cats rotation. We all knew the Twins had to make a roster move to activate Joe Mauer. Well, early this evening the Twins filled that New Britain rotation spot by trading Josh Willingham to Kansas City and, in return, getting P Jason Adam. Adam was Kansas City’s pre-season #9 prospect according to Baseball America. And while he hasn’t had a particularly good season, he still is only 23 and has potential. That is certainly more than anyone thought the Twins would get back for the aging Josh Willingham and his expiring coontract. RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 3, Durham 0 (Game 1) Box Score So maybe Trevor May had an unforgettable Saturday night in his major league debut, but only two days later he contributed to a AAA no-hitter. Well, sorta. On July 24, the Red Wings had a game suspended because of rain. The starting pitcher was the recently-promoted Trevor May. May, who was rehabbing a calf injury at the time, threw three innings of no-hit ball. But then the skies opened up and the game was tabled… until today. Logan Darnell took over today in the 4th and went on to pitch the next six innings. While Darnell allowed a walk, he didn’t allow a single hit, which completed the strangest no-hitter you’re likely to ever hear about. He struck out five and finished his six innings on only 68 pitches. James Beresford led the team with three hits (two in the innings today). He doubled and drove in one. Doug Bernier doubled twice and scored twice, one of each happening two and a half weeks ago, the others occurring today. Rochester 5, Durham 4 (Game 2, 7 innings) Box Score The Red Wings withstood a late rally to hold on in the nightcap, completing a two-game sweep. Rochester opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Chris Colabello led off the inning with a home run. Wilkin Ramirez singled and stole second base before scoring from third on a Doug Bernier single. Deibinson Romero, who walked, was also driven in by Bernier’s hit. In the fourth inning, the Red Wings plated both Romero and Aaron Hicks, who each reached on singles, on a Josmil Pinto triple (not kidding). Virgil Vasquez made his first AAA start of the year and picked up the win. He cruised through four innings before giving up four runs in the fifth inning. He struck out one, walked one and allowed five hits. Lester Oliveros picked up the two-inning save, his third. He struck out four. The Red Wings are now 67-56 and own the 3rd-best record in the International League. The issue, however, is that Rochester is also in third place in their division, which means they are in second place for the one wild card spot. (The fourth place team in the division, Buffalo, is tied for the fourth-best record in the whole league.) In the wild card race, the Red Wings trail the PawSox by 1.5 games with 21 games remaining. ROCK CATS REVIEW New Britain - DAY OFF MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 3, Palm Beach 4 (rain-shortened, 7 innings) Box Score The Miracle fell to Palm Beach in a game that was cut short by rain. Despite the loss, some good came from this one. After Levi Michael led off the game with a home run, Byron Buxton pulled one over the left-field fence for a two-run home run, Buxton’s fourth of the year. Buxton also drove in the third Miracle run in the second inning. Unlike the home run, this came with the bases loaded when a pitch drilled him in the hip. Stuart Turner had his 12th double of the season. Matt Tomshaw took the loss. He pitched six innings and gave up four runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked three. He allowed two home runs. Todd Van Steensel opened the seventh inning by allowing a hit. Then the rains came and the game was called. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids - DAY OFF E-TOWN E-NOTES Elizabethton 2, Bristol 0 (7 innings, Game 1) Box Score Three outs from the second no-hitter for the organization tonight, Felix Jorge opened the seventh inning by allowing consecutive singles. He was able to strike out the next two batters before ending the game with a groundout. Overall, he allowed only two hits and a walk, while striking out seven in the seven-inning, complete game shutout. Offensively, E-town scattered eight hits led by Nick Gordon’s two singles. No other player had multiple hits and no batter was able to get an extra base hit. Tanner English and Pat Kelly each stole their fourth base of the season. Elizabethton 0, Bristol 4 (7 innings, Game 2) Box Score E-Town dropped the nightcap to a Bristol team looking for - and getting - their 15th win of the season. There was not much offense to speak of tonight. Only Jeremias Pineda (4th inning single followed by two stolen bases), Austin Diemer (5th inning bunt single and stole second base) and Trey Vavra (7th inning double) recorded hits. E-town left two runners on base at the end of the game. Derrick Penilla allowed three runs in 5.1 innings. He struck out three and allowed four hits. Dereck Rodriguez got the final two outs but gave up another run. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 14, GCL Orioles 9 Box Score This is one of those games where you’d be better off just checking out the box score and trying to take it all in. The Twins led 5-2 going into the bottom of the eighth and then proceeded to give up six runs to trail by three. In the top of the ninth, though, the Twins turned it on to score nine runs. The Orioles were able to score one in the bottom of the ninth, but stranded two runners to end the game. Amaurys Minier was the offensive star. He hit his 7th home run of the season - the most by a Twin in the GCL since Chris Parmelee hit eight in 2006. Minier finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. David Hurlbut struck out three in his four-inning rehab start. He allowed two runs on seven hits. D.J. Baxendale struck out three and walked one in three innings of hitless ball. Eduardo Del Rosario allowed six runs before a collection of other relievers finished it off. DSL DIALED IN DSL Twins 4, DSL Orioles1 1 Box Score Today’s victory propelled the DSL Twins into first place in the DSL Boca Chica Baseball City Division. They currently have a four-game winning streak. Jadison Jimenez pitched a gem that no one will talk about outside of this article. He allowed only one hit over seven innings of ball. He struck out five and got 12 ground ball outs. He currently sports a 2.19 ERA. Robert Molina had a multi-hit game which included a double. Both Luis Martinez and Jermaine Palacios doubled as their averages hover around .300. Junior Amarante stole his 20th base. 19. While the Twins enjoyed Monday night off, there was still plenty of activity in the organization. Would Trevor May prove he's ready to make the move to the parent club? How would Aaron Slegers adjust to the Florida State League? Which Lewis Thorpe would show up. Joe Mauer and Ricky Nolasco are both scheduled to play Tuesday for the Kernels. Mauer brought a flurry of activity down to Cedar Rapids. Which record was broken? Which transactions were made? Read on to find out.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 1, Louisville 5 Box Score The Red Wings were shut down by former teammate Scott Diamond, who dealt 7.2 scoreless innings. Chris Rahl managed to score on a passed ball for Rochester’s lone run in the 9th inning. Rahl led the offense with three hits. Doug Bernier and Deibinson Romero both had two-hit games with a double each. Many of us hoped today would be Trevor May’s final tuneup before a big league call. On the positive side of things, May was able to get stretched out to 99 pitches. Unfortunately, he wasn’t very efficient and was only able to make it through six innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out only two. A.J. Achter struck three but allowed a run in two innings. Rochester made some pre-game moves. Logan Darnell was added from Minnesota. Chris Herrmann was activated from the disabled list. To make room, both Nate Hanson and Reynaldo Rodriguez were transferred to New Britain. With the loss, the Red Wings drop to 63-53, which is 1.5 games behind Syracuse in the IL North. They also trail the PawSox by a half of a game for the Wild Card. ROCK CATS REVIEW New Britain - DAY OFF The Rock Cats placed Jose Berrios (shoulder) on the 7-day D.L. and Mason Melotakis (elbow, uh oh) on the 60-day D.L. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 12, Lakeland 2 Box Score Adam Walker set a Miracle record with his 22nd home run of the season, a first-inning shot that drove in three. He breaks the record previously held by Brock Peterson (2006). Walker didn’t provide all the power though. Travis Harrison (three hits, three RBI, three runs), Jason Kanzler and Tyler Grimes all contributed a long ball. Stuart Turner also had a nice game with three hits. Aaron Slegers made his high-A debut and it went swimmingly: seven innings, six hits, two runs, one walk, six strikeouts. Brandon Peterson and Alex Muren closed the game out with scoreless frames. Fort Myers still has a very impressive record (66-46), but needed tonight’s breakout to snap a six-game losing streak and avoid a four-game sweep. Byron Buxton had the day off to rest. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 3, Wisconsin 4 Box Score The presence of Joe Mauer was simply not enough. The Kernels dropped a close one to the Timber Rattlers, but remain in the playoff driver's seat. (They are a half game up on Wisconsin and two games up on Peoria for the one of the two second-half playoff spots.) Lewis Thorpe had an interesting start. He struck out six in four innings and only allowed one hit. On the flip side, he allowed two runs (one earned) on three walks. Jared Wilson and Chris Mazza combined to pitch the next four innings, giving up only an unearned run, before giving way to Dallas Gallant who allowed a run and took the loss. Chad Christensen led the offense with a home run. Alex Swim, Max Murphy and Engelb Vielma each added a single. E-TOWN E-NOTES Elizabethton 2, Johnson City 4 Box Score The E-Twins lost their second straight and have watched their Appy League West lead shrink to two games. There are only 23 regular season games remaining. Derrick Penilla made the start and struggled. He allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out four. C.K. Irby, who has been underappreciated, struck out three in 1.2 innings. Sam Clay, who really struggled early, has started to calm down. Tonight, he struck out four in two innings. Dutch Deol and Jorge Fernandez each drove in a run. Trey Vavra doubled. Jeremias Pineda stole his 11th base. Nick Gordon went 0-for-4. 21. I'd say there is a difference between being involved with HGH and taking dietary supplements to keep your weight under control, but that's just me. The felony drug arrest is probably more alarming. But it's still an easy flyer to take for two months.
  22. I'm simply pointing out - from the business side - that it wasn't the best move. I think most of my thinking involves ways to spend less money. (They should just hire me!) Also, Farris will be a MiLB FA at the end of the year. If he's added, he'll be outrighted off the roster. At the end of the year, his standing with the organization is the same.
