  1. I didn't even know Clint Eastwood wrote THAT theme song. He wrote more??
  2. Sure glad they got Buxton inked to a long term deal last winter. Get the sweep done tomorrow!
  3. Benetti and Stone are the best in MLB. Hands down. Stone is fantastic.
  4. As i see it, the real problem is even if all the above perform near career OPS level, this isn't an above average offense.
  5. Per the MLB.com box score, 85 pitches, 57 strikes. The article says 65 pitches. 57 strikes...pretty clearly a typo.
  6. What? The Twins have averaged 5 runs/game 6 times in their entire history. They've never averaged 6 runs per game. Not even once. And this current version featured Gio Urshela and Kyle Garlick hitting 3rd and 4th tonight. Less than 4/game isn't out of the question.
  7. I can't see any way to tie up 7 spots on starters. The math doesn't work. That's why it isn't being done.
  8. Rogers was much more important to the Twins in 2022 than Paddack and Pagan.
  9. I guess with the 28 man roster, and 14 or 15 man staffs, you might be able to work some sort of "piggyback" schedule. But with a 13 man staff-already limiting yourself to 13 position players-it's really difficult to tie up 7 spots to starters. And that's what you're doing...7 spots for guys that only pitch every 5th day. That leaves you 6 relievers, to cover at minimum something like 11 innings those every 5 days. And that's if everything goes perfectly...you get 6 IP from the regular starters every day, and 8 from each of the 2 piggyback days. No extra innings games. You can save an inning on the road in losses, but in reality, we all know it won't work perfectly. You'll be asking for way more than 11 IP every five days from those 6 relievers. Way more. And that ignores the simple truth...do we HAVE 7 guys capable of regular 4 or 5 inning stints? I'd question whether we have 5, much less 7. There's just no way that works. I think it's near impossible, which is why nobody is doing it.
  10. Who was that crotchety old fart who made enemies all winter insisting the bullpen wasn't very talented or deep? And threw a fit when they traded away their best reliever for "roster management?"
  11. This is perhaps unfair, but IMO Duffey seems like the profile of someone who temporarily benefitted from the use of grip enhancers, but no longer can. Fastball velo and location suddenly jump, curveball bite suddenly jumps...and then last year it's all back to the Duffey we saw prior to 2019.
  12. If MLB teams know what's best for their pitchers, why do we seemingly get less and less production with no reduction in injury? In fact, it's a guess, but MORE time lost to injury than any previous period in history?
  13. You'd think so, but thr results certainly call that into question.
  14. I'd say if I'm in charge the 3rd base coach would be fired. Get a catcher thrown out at home with nobody out? You've demonstrated you're not capable of the job. "No consequences" is how you end up with zero postseason wins going on 2 generations.
  15. In general, I agree. In this case, Archer not only got a shortened spring, he threw only 19 innings last year, didn't pitch in 2020, and only 120 innings in 2019. It's entirely reasonable to expect he'll need to ramp up. And as noted, if anything, he was left in a hitter or two too long last night. He was clearly laboring, noticably losing both velo and command.
  16. Concur on all points, including Rocco being a hitter or two late removing Archer. Personally I've been very encouraged by Archer's starts. He needs to develop durability and stamina, but he really should be finishing up spring training. Hopefully that stamina comes, the pitch quality is impressive, IYAM.
  17. I don't agree that they've constructed a solid pen. I do agree Duran is better used in 1 inning appearances, available for more games in more effective short stints.
  18. You really can't get a runner thrown out at home with no outs. The fact the top of the order was due up just adds to an already awful mistake. The leaky bullpen isn't a surprise to me.
  19. Dear Abby, dear Abby Well I never thought That me and my girlfriend would ever get caught We were sitting in the back seat just shooting the breeze With her hair up in curlers and her pants to her knees Signed just married Just married just married You have no complaint You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't So listen up buster, and listen up good Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood Signed dear Abby (Courtesy the late great John Prine)
  20. Ryan looked really good today, I thought.
  21. Not to mention the K rate wouldn't be too shabby either!!
  22. Players with at least 5 years of MLB service time cannot be optioned to the minor leagues without their consent. Sano has just over 6 years service time. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/minor-league-options Edit: that's from the previous CBA but I'm reasonably certain this restriction remains in effect.
  23. You won't have to wait long. Four pitches should do it. Fouled back, ball one, called strike, swinging strike. Done and done.
