  1. Hasn't gone well may be underselling it a tad... "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" If you want to consider 2015 as well, the Twins are 93-107 with Molitor at the helm. Mind you they fully intended (tho unreasonable to expect this) to compete for the Division title this year. No one is arguing that Ryan isn't mostly to blame for this mess. That doesn't mean Molitor has done a good job
  2. Sure - a fairly minor nitpick in the grand scheme of things... but a lot of these minor nitpicks add up over time. Just another example of him not putting players in the best position to succeed. FWIW - Arcia has a career OPS of .617 vs lefties. My other question from the exact same game would be - why was Pat Dean asked to pitch the 7th? You've suddenly tied the game, and Dean with 80+ pitches, facing Castellanos for the 3rd time is the best option??
  3. Polanco was also available. Say Polanco finds a way on (which he has done pretty often in tiny sample sizes), even if Mauer doesn't drive him in... you've just assured Park of an at bat in the 9th
  4. The problem is, his actions line up with those words. Jorge Polanco just the most recent example (Alex Meyer, Kepler, etc)
  5. This is some serious straw grasping. Maybe we shouldn't even have a manager, it doesn't sound as if they are really responsible for anything.
  6. Just curious... if veteran guys get mad, what do you think is going to happen exactly? They might win only 8 of their next 38 games, instead of the 10 of 38 they've won so far? Yes, its fine to say we aren't giving up. No, he does not have to be publicly dismissive of the young cornerstones of the roster. It is possible to just find playing time for a guy like Polanco, without announcing "This season is over, might as well play Polanco". Hell, they might get better results from him then they are currently getting from some of the infielders, and win more games. .
  7. Arrieta had started something like 100 less games when the Cubs dealt for him than Hughes had at the point of this extension... What's the saying, "walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... it just might be a duck"... 160+ MLB starts, only one season of which were above avg...
  8. You don't see a difference in a player that has been mediocre to bad for 8 years vs one that has been mediocre to bad for 3? I'm sorry, I had to stop reading this reply when you compared him to Arrieta.
  9. He had just finished his 8th Major League season, and 1st above avg one as a starter. And had TWO years left on his deal. There's nothing hindsight about it, the context was clear at the time, and now. They paid for the 2014 season (EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS TWO YEARS LEFT), while ignoring 2007-2013
  10. If you are right and Ryan is holding onto him as "DH depth", then I just don't know what to say....
  11. His contract extension was $42 million and 3 years. It's a bit disingenuous to call it under $12 million / year. The 1st contract was good. The extension was potentially the worst decision (of many) that Terry Ryan has made in 5 years
  12. If the belief is multiple teams would have interest in him for their 40 man, I'm not sure why the Twins haven't traded him, even for a low level prospect? I think most can agree he has no future in MN, rather than risk missing out on waivers, why hasn't anyone attempted to get him?
  13. I guess we will find out in Oct./Nov. what other teams think of him, because yeah, like you said this will be his last season in the Twins org. There's no need to cut him from the 40 man now obviously, with only 39 (and Mastro, Dean, etc. being more "cuttable") ... so I'm not suggesting they do that. When I say he wouldn't get claimed, I'm eliminating 15 teams right off the bat, because I think he is a DH.... I'm guessing the other 14 AL teams have some sort of "Kennys Vargas" in their own system they would value more. Nothing in his swing, numbers, etc. suggest to me he's capable of being a productive ML hitter.
  14. To be fair, the White Sox won 76 games last year - the Twins are on pace to win 42. This is a bit beyond "oh man kind of a disappointing start", its full on dumpster fire. I think the GM is even more to blame, but I don't see how anyone can watch this team day in and day out and think Molitor has any clue what he is doing. On a game by game basis, the lineups, pitching decisions, pinch hit vs not pinch hit are extremely poor to say the least. On a longer term view, nearly every prospect that comes up is being handled poorly, is struggling, and going back down. Does he deserve blame for player development at the ML level?
  15. If he's going to pitch through it, it kind of has to be in the bullpen. I mean without those rockets being hit at people, or some great defensive plays, where does his 75 pitches take him? Maybe into the 5th? 5, 2, 4 the number of innings he's given them the previous 3 starts. I don't see how letting him continue to start games helps them in the short, or long term. And apparently the manager still has playoff aspirations, yet is starting someone who can't exceed 75 pitchers (and frankly hasn't been any bit effective with those 75 before last night)
  16. "I'm not on the bandwagon it's a lost season, let's get these kids some MLB experience. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't think anybody thinks that it's lost." - Molitor This is disturbing to say the least. Not that I blame him for not throwing in the towel already, but the fact that he thinks it makes no sense to play Polanco, etc.. and continues to throw Hughes, Nolasco, DSantana, etc. out there... wow
  17. I'm not going to argue about whether the Twins value Grossman or not, for now he was signed to a minor league deal, and I would doubt he ever becomes anything more than a temporary stop gap. I would be shocked if Vargas was claimed if the Twins removed him from 40 man - there's not a huge market for Designated hitters that don't really hit
  18. Sano has played in 117 of the Twins 121 games since he was called up
  19. Nunez isn't eligible for FA until 2018
  20. Noooo chance Plouffe brings back a top 100 prospect. 1.5 years of Trevor Plouffe for the rest of this years salary, and like $10 million next year gets you a low level shot in the dark type prospect, or maybe a low ceiling reliever, more ML ready
  21. Nope, was pretty clearly talking about Kennys Vargas. But yes, looking for odd statistical outliers to put on each prospect will certainly work. Maybe people have been too hard on Grossman. Just look at JD Martinez, seemed to work out for the Tigers, right?
  22. Well he's been arguably the worst regular player in baseball since 2015 started, so he certainly deserves plenty of that blame! I don't think anyone said it all rests on him though
  23. 1) I didn't mean it to come across as "I hope Grossman is the long term replacement for Danny Santana". I meant; "I hope Grossman being called up for the next 4 weeks before the return of Buxton spells the end of the Danny Santana era - fingers crossed!" 2) Since the start of 2015 - which obviously removed the ridiculous BABIP inflated 2014 season... this is Danny Santana's line - .223/.247/.302 w/ a 45 wRC+. I'm pretty sure they could venture over to St. Paul and find an improvement on that in the Saints lineup.
  24. Yeah he's starting to hit a little bit as he approaches his 26th birthday. He's never going to be a fit on this roster since he's not particularly good, and the GM has stockpiled DH's
  25. Maybe my expectations are so freaking low with some of the crap they have done this season, I'm just happy its a guy who's still young, not 34 year olds who would rather retire than play here.
