  1. Because the "heart question" is stupid.
  2. As I have been saying about Hicks . . . he is A: ready for MLB defensively, B: ready for MLB with plate discipline, and C: ready to bust out this year. Yes the AFL is a hitter's league, but he was a A+ player playing in a AA/AAA prospects league.
  3. He looks totally off. His delivery is all jacked up. How this happens to a once-elite pitcher is really bizarre. How does he not have a consistent delivery that isn't all wonky?
  4. Buxton is the no. 1 pick, easily, And the Astros will take him. The Twins should take Appel. He goes to FTM immediately.
  5. Hendriks is the guy for sure. This does mean that everyone moves up the depth chart though. So, DeVries is someone to watch. As is Luke French. I would rather Swarzak see time as a middle relief pitcher for the bullpen. Diamond is better than his 2011 numbers suggest. And he is off to a good start this year. With Waldrop and Slama, the Twins may (should) be saying bye-bye to Maloney and Gray.
  6. Too bad, but at least there is some finality to this. I do think that maybe Swarzak deserves some more high-leverage MR time like what happened with Guerrier. Diamond is an option as well. This moves everyone up. Glad that Hendriks will be up because he will perform.
  7. Willingham crushed that. Wow. Pull hitters wanted at TF! Also, good for Jamey Carroll to make some of these people around here, um, shut up.
  8. There a lot of things to be excited (yes, EXCITED, damn it) about "down on the farm" right now. ROC: Dozier (Alexi . . .), Diamond (try out Swarzak soonish at a more high-leverage MR role, maybe), and Carson (slugging off the bench as opposed to Burroughs). NBR: Hicks (please move him up to 3 in the lineup right now), Hanson, Romero and Florimon, on the one hand, and Darnell, French, Guerra, Wimmers, and Oliveros on the other. FTM: whoa . . . Santana, Morales, Arcia, Ray, and even Pinto (catching depth?) on the one hand, and most of the pitching staff on the other (moving Soliman to be a setup man, may be a good idea soon). BEL: Sano, Rosario, and Ortiz, then Boer, Gruver and Summers.
  9. Buxton will go to the Astros and the Twins should take Appel.
  10. Not giving up on Valencia. I just look for a non-true platoon to see if Burroughs can hit against some righties. It is interesting to see these lineups with Plouffe and Hughes both in against Weaver. Either they shouldn't change the lineup at all or they should just make it lefty heavy. Split stats should be appreciated.
  11. Romero singles him in. Great to see Hicks doing this. Also good to see if Romero can bounce back and get his career going again.
  12. Albers is one of a handful of lefties who could see an in-season promotion this year. And hopefully that happens, because it's a weak spot, prospect-wise.
  13. Quite the early start, even in EDT.
  14. WAR measures the value a player has vs. the value a AAAA-type has. There's nothing mythical about that whatsoever. I am not clear on what you don't understand about the position adjustment? Mauer catching, for instance, means that some scrub isn't catching and taking up a spot in the lineup (Butera) while 1B or DH is occupied by someone much better, in theory, than Butera. There is nothing difficult to understand about that. WAR isn't perfect (defense, stolen bases and speed in general), but it is pretty good. It's better than simple seeing-eye scouting and merely looking at homers or rbi or batting average. OBP is the number one statistic that requires little math.
  15. Haha, Revere got cut off there. Span, CF Mauer, C Morneau, DH Willingham, RIGHT FIELD Parmelee, 1B Burroughs, 3B Carroll, SS Casilla, 2B Revere, LF
  16. Span, CF Mauer, C Morneau, DH Willingham, RIGHT FIELD Parmelee, 1B Burroughs, 3B Carroll, SS Casilla, 2B Two right-handed bats against Weaver. I have nothing against Carroll batting second, but Mauer was born to bat second, obviously.
  17. Interesting stuff in the last couple posts. I wonder what the total population is in those blackout areas. I have also thought about how having minor league teams within that area might certainly help that as well. Furthermore, that is atrocious that the Brewers invade Minnesota like that.
  18. Haha, thanks CDog for the WAR discussion. I greatly dislike some of the disregard for actual objective statistics in favor of something else . . .
  19. Thanks for actually providing a thoughtful answer. It is true that losing brings with it a lack of passion sometimes, but one would still think that even if the team is losing players have individual pride about their play. Maybe I can see some guys who don't "have their heads in the game." I saw that some last year, but not so much this year. All players are susceptible to losing focus in long innings, not just Twins players.
  20. Didn't that 2002 team subsequently lose to the Yankees in the next two seasons in the playoffs. Maybe they weren't "cowering" though. That's it. This Borzi article is almost garbage. He is just saying stuff and doesn't bother to make sure it is accurate at all.
  21. Yesterday, Mauer and the foolishly-maligned-by-some-silly-Twins-"fans" Hunter sharing a laugh. Valencia fielded a ground ball in fall territory and made Joe jump high at first to catch it and then smiled over at him . . .
  22. How does anyone know how they are "mentally and emotionally" and what is "fire"? Are they supposed to throw helmets, break coolers, what?
  23. This kind of thing only makes me want to say "be patient" more, you know. Four freaking games. And please, who else should be batting second?
  24. Some people are acting at though this team is full of Carmelo Anthonys . . .
  25. I wonder how many Wins Above Replacement "hustle" and "grit" produce . . .
