  1. My brother teaches spanish in college and he translated that he has hard, heavy, fastball that sinks/runs. He also has a "lanky" build which is always encouraging when looking at a youngster
  2. I have to think Diamond missed his location there pretty bad.. I have never met anyone or ever heard of a player trying to hit another player in the head(possibly Pedro Martinez). Bad move on Diamonds part.. hits him in the putt and he doesn't get ejected
  3. Never know, might find a pitcher for next year!
  4. What's the over/under for Rangers runs scored this series??
  5. I see your point with a team lining up playoff starters. The point I was trying to make is that Scott Diamond has done a nice job this year regardless of what so called experts rate him (1,2,3,4,5 starter). I also think its tough to rate a player in A ball as a future 3,4, or 5 starter. I am okay with the terms "front of the rotation starter" or "back of the rotation starter." There is a pretty big gap in those two terms. Just do not think it is the most effective way to project talent.
  6. While Yankees fans will always get irritated with the mention of Pavano, he had some really nice moments in a Twins uniform and have never heard of anyone in the Twins clubhouse say anything but great things about him. I always liked watching him pitch and felt that he was a tremendous competitor. Good luck to him in the future.
  7. I for one am tired of the #1, #2,#3,#4, etc. starting pitching references. Like someone said earlier, it totally depends on the team where the pitcher is slotted in the rotation. I hate reading how a guy has an upside of a #3 pitcher. John Smoltz was a #3 pitcher at one time, and the same can be said about Carlos Silva. I would think that is a pretty big gap of quality. The job of a starting pitcher is to go out there once every five days and get the other team out. Scott Diamond has done a pretty good job of doing that. I like it!
  8. Its interesting to see many of the top pitching prospects in baseball struggling this year. Which proves prospects are such a tough thing to project. Julio Teheran, Trevor May, Jameson Taillon to an extent, Jared Cosart, Manny Banuelos, and Martin Perez just to name a few. I think the Twins lack any superstar prospects with the possible exception of Sano. However, they seem to have many prospects that are pretty solid across the board.. hopefully being big league starters. I guess it just depends how you rank systems.. by depth or by upside potential
  9. Lets keep in mind, there is another guy down in the minors who has had huge strikeout numbers for several years in a row. He is a closer... someone help me out here.... Kidding! Slama time!
  10. We live in a different era of baseball now. Teams will not give up quality pitching for a aging outfielder who is a defensive liability. Teams value pitching and defense much more than they did 10 years ago. I think the Twins are caught in a position where they don't know when they can compete. They don't want to commit to rebuilding for 2014-2015. They seem like they want to try to add a few pieces here and there and try to compete in the next year. But when their record is 10-12 games below 500 in the first few months, they are finding that teams will not mortage their future for some rental players even if they are competing that year. It just appears that the Twins are 1 or 2 steps behind in every movie they make.
  11. I think I remember Seth saying in the offseason, "this guy should be pitching in the big leagues, whether its with the Twins or someone else." I agree with this statement and was shocked he was not claimed. I feel bad for this guy because it gets to a point when one wonders what else can this guy do? I keep thinking there has to be some reason the organization does not think highly of Anthony. People take a lot of shots at the Twins and their decision making, but the fact is they are still professionals and have to be good at their job. So I am going to trust the people that are getting paid to make these decisions. But still.. the guy misses bats! Good luck to him
  12. Aaron Hicks goes 5-6 today with 2 doubles and a homerun. He also scored 5 runs. This brings his average up to .284. Good to see this kid finally starting to blossom and I will eagerly anticipate how mangagement plays this out the rest of the year.

  14. A recent one.. Dodgers trade Carlos Santana to Indians for Casey Blake at the trade deadline. Or my personal favorite.. Steve Phillips GM for the Mets at the time trades away Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano!
  15. Alright, sitting here passing the time and I started thinking about something.. We are nearly a month into the season. I want to hear a minor league first month all star team. Can be any level as long as every position is filled.. curious to see some of these answers!!

  17. Texas is hands down the best team in the American League. Their pitching is very solid and I would put their offense up against anyone in the last several years. The funny thing is, if you ask 5 different people, you might get 5 different answers on who their best hitter is. That is when you know you are loaded! Detroit is solid, although Seattle is kinda smacking them around right now and you saw what Texas did to them. I am not sold on anyone past Verlander in that rotation and even though Valverde was very good last year, think the American League is going to catch on to him this year and make that bullpen very shaky.
  18. Understand what your saying about the financial committments made to Willingham/Marquis etc, but I'm not sure throwing prospects to the wolves and making them struggle and play before they are ready could really hinder their development. These are 20 year old young men, its never good for anyone much less kids with fragile psychis to hit near the mendoza line

    Casilla

Alright, I have never been a fan of Casilla. He has always been lackadaisical both in the field and at the plate/running bases. I can recall several times him forgetting how many outs there were. We and the Twins were patient with him because we did see flashes of a very exciting player. However, he has failed on numberous occasions to ever sustain any of this play for an extended period of time. I think many bloggers on here were really hoping for him to be a utility player this year but that is not the case. I for one am so tired of him getting chance after chance and continually hurting the team. I wrote this after watching him in the first inning fail to turn a double play that lead to the first two runs of the game. Am I the only one that seems to feel this way??

  21. Lets not forget Carroll is 38 and Casilla has never been able to produce a full productive season. The longer Dozier stays in AAA, that probably means both our middle infielders are performing pretty well. This has to be looked at as Casilla's last shot at a big league job with the Twins, so once Dozier does get called up, lets hope it is for good.
