  1. Which Santana? There are arguments for both so...
  2. How would this cut his trade value? I'm not attacking your post, I'd really like to know your thinking on this. Not saying the Twins would do it, but, how would demonstrating the ability to play multiple positions at at least an average level diminish one's value? I'm thinking Ian Desmond here. Can now play OF as well as multiple IF positions in a pinch. Another great example would be Zobrist.
  3. PNC in Pittsburgh is also great. Awesome part of the city right by Heinz Field and Three Rivers
  4. Little bit late in this response, but to quote Aaron Gleeman's recent tweet. "That injury Trevor Plouffe has been trying to play through? @RhettBollinger now says it's a "'cracked rib.'" Twins never stop Twins-ing." My point wasn't that the Twins seem to have a lot of injuries. My point was that they seem to always have injuries that start out as day-to-day and end up needing surgery. Phil Hughes just had shoulder surgery. The only reason he got surgery was because he broke his leg. If that hadn't happened he would be pitching with a shoulder that required serious surgery. Glen Perkins had a torn labrum. He was put on the DL and when he tried to come back his shoulder still hurt, sought a second opinion, only to find out he had a torn labrum. How do our doctors not spot these things? And I understand that guys try to play through injury all the time, but, this has gotten ridiculous. Alex Meyer was optioned to AAA on May 4th, never pitched for them, and was finally put on the DL on June 4th (the 7 day DL mind you) and has yet to pitch for them. What is going on there?
  5. My biggest problem with this injury is that Glen just needed some rest, he then has a setback in his rehab, then next thing you know, he all of the sudden has a torn labrum?! I know nothing about medicine, but this sort of thing is so commonplace with the Twins that it is almost comical. How often do we see guys go from just needing rest to needing surgery in a matter of a month or so. I believe the same sort of thing is happening to Alex Meyer. The whole organization needs an overhaul right down to the medical staff.
  6. I would try to trade Nolasco to an NL team and tell them you will pay all of his salary in exchange for a dumpster fire. At least then we can say that we actually have a dumpster fire.
  7. I didn't know the Twins once employed Dwight Schrute's doppelganger (Dave Goltz). Anybody else see that?
  8. Over - just because of the bullpen, look at the Royals from last year.
  9. Over - smart organization, great pitching
  10. Under - AL East is better this year, which means that someone has to lose. That team is Baltimore.
  11. My favorite memory was as a 15 year old probably. I didn't really look up to the players anymore like idols. Being a high school player and starting to see the difference between myself and major leaguers I was old enough to understand that what these guys did on a daily basis was more than just hard. I was developing a respect for what players do. Anyways, we were waiting outside at the Dome to get autographs and pictures. Matt Lecroy and Michael Cuddyer came out. I got both autographs on a ball. Lecroy was nice but don't remember much about him. I took pictures with both and shook their hands. Cuddyer was still a failed second basemen at the time and actually had two errors in the game I believe but he came back and salvaged it by getting a big hit. He signed my ball, took my picture, and I shook his hand and said thanks and told him that he had a great game. He looked me straight in the eyes and said thanks with a big smile on his face. It may have been all for show but it seemed very genuine. Everyone talks about how great an influence Harmon had on Michael but that autograph he signed for me was pretty unreadable so it tells me that Harmon and Michael hadn't become that close yet. That smile and his words told me that he was a genuinely good person without the influence of Harmon. I will always remember that. From that time on I loved to watch him play because I personally felt like I knew who I was cheering for.
  12. I think I'm coming around to resigning Pelfrey, 2 years off of tommy john, he could be better. I would love it if they signed Garza. He has very good stuff. I'm not sure he wants to return to Rick "pitch to contact" Anderson though. Not his style. Would be awesome if they would get him though.
  13. Look at the Pirates from 2 years ago. They made no moves at the trade deadline other than Derrek Lee because they knew they wouldn't do anything in the playoffs so it was pointless to trade prospects. You are assuming that Mauer plays 160 games at first base, Willingham not spending time on the DL, which I don't see happening. Pitchers usually get hurt more often you are right, but the offense has to be healthy to put some runs on the board.
  14. Although I agree that most of what was said here is pretty conservative you are assuming that essentially the entire team spends no significant time on the DL. That just doesn't happen to major league teams. You are looking at the absolute best case scenario. The best part about the signing of Nolasco and Hughes is that instead of Scott Diamond getting hurt and forcing Cole DeVries into the rotation, now Nolasco can get hurt and Diamond can get into the rotation so at least we have serviceable spot starters. What is the point of giving up our great prospects to just barely miss the playoffs?
