  1. I'm going to credit Gardy for getting Milone. Had he not insisted on Bartlet, one of our other 4th OFers wouldn't have gotten released and we never would have gotten Fuld. Congrats Gardy!
  2. http://a.espncdn.com/wireless/frontend/images/scribble/twitter.pngJim Bowden Twins do a great job in getting Milone for Fuld #Twins
  3. Fuld to A's in exchange for Millone
  4. From Jerry Crasnick: http://a.espncdn.com/wireless/frontend/images/scribble/e.pngjerrycrasnickRyan, Willingham has no market, and the Twins' asking price on Suzuki is way too high. I still think he'd be a great fit for the O's, but Dan Duquette says they're content with their catching situation.
  5. Re: Cespedes trade, the A's desperately want to win this year. Further, Cespedes is a free agent after next season, so you're trading 1 year and 2 months of Cespedes (an above-average OF) for 2 months of Lester (a very good pitcher) in a year where you're a lock to make the playoffs.
  6. Wow, back to back jokes about domestic violence.
  7. There was a year where Ben Sheets pitched for the Brewers and tried to bunt every single time he came to bat, because he was at risk of re-injuring his back, and it wasn't worth the 1/10 chance of him getting a hit to let him swing away. I hate watching pitchers bat. NL baseball is just awful after you get past the 5th or 6th hitter, because you KNOW the sure-thing out is coming soon.
  8. In your opinion...
  9. My only thought is that you need far more hitters per game than pitchers per game. Sometimes (read: the last three seasons for the Twins) you need a guy who can just fill space in the lineup and be 1 of 9 guys, whereas you only need 1 SP for each game. No idea if this is why, just a guess.
  10. If the conversation were about top players below 25, then I agree excluding guys who are in the majors would be foolish. But in a conversation about "which teams are best suited to improve from within," it makes sense that if you have fewer guys below the majors who might contribute meaningful innings any time soon, you would be ranked lower.
  11. In a conversation about the strength of farm systems and prospects, why would we look at guys who, by and large, have already "made it" in the majors?
  12. Because you said so? I'm not buying it. He's a very popular player, and there aren't a lot of reasons to go see the Twins right now unless you're a diehard. Not saying people go to games to see him pitch (they probably don't), but getting rid of him would be another tick in the "why should I go see the Twins?" column.
  13. Re: What I think TT was getting at...the perception has to do with what the players and future free agents will think. IIRC, the Marlins players who got fire-sale'd in 2012(?) to the Blue Jays were royally POed because they had just signed FA deals with the Marlins only to be traded immediately. I think it looks twice as bad when you sign a guy who takes a discount to stay near home and then trade him ASAP.
  14. Isn't Dozier a building block for the future?
  15. For the record, though, nobody on a team should ever be untouchable. Sure, a team might have to give you the moon for a guy to get him, but you should never say "under no circumstances."
  16. Seems a bit early for that prediction, no?
  17. I'm not sure you trade a pretty good 2B (offensively and defensively) for a SP, especially a prospect/recent prospect.
  18. In pro sports, especially MLB, contracts are absolutely given for past performance. Why else does Pujols get $200mil for playing in his 30s?
  19. The situations are not at all comparable, other than the $$$. Pujols wanted a contract for years 31/32-40 and wanted to get paid like the dominant player he had been. Best case scenario, the Cardinals would have gotten 4 good years out of him. Mauer got a contract for 26/27-35. It's not crazy to believe the Twins were paying for 3-4 amazing Mauer years and 4-5 good Mauer years, with the contract ending right as he got too old.
  20. I've never really bought into the "AJ is a guy you hate when he's on another team but love when he's on your team" narrative. Either a guy is a jerk or he isn't. (And FWIW, I don't think it's the job of a television broadcast team to criticize the team they broadcast. They're supposed to be simply reporting on the events of the game they're broadcasting. If you want to see Twins criticism, just pop over here)
  21. Dozier has hit a decent number of HRs and plays for the host team...and a lot of other players already turned Bautista down. I don't get where the disbelief over his being invited comes from. And can we please stop perpetuating the "HR derby screws up your swing" myth? It's conventional wisdom that is not supported by evidence, except evidence of a guy like Abreu going on a ridiculous tear before the ASG, then returning to normal after.
  22. <Insert Princess Bride quote here>
  23. I think Perk has been pretty good, as has Suzuki. I think Suzuki's inclusion is as much an indictment on catching in the AL as anything.
  24. I sure hope the Twins aren't making trade decisions/determinations on whether a decent prospect has a good 3 weeks in the majors...
  25. Well first, it's a joke intended to introduce a little fun into this conversation, and second, you're ignoring the recent history of these boards if you're pretending that there has been an obsession over the age of pitchers and the apparently precipitous decline across the board of all such pitchers.
