  1. The last top SP FA are waiting for the Tanaka signing.
  2. I would love to add Anderson to the rotation.
  3. I would offer up Perkins & give them the pick of or both diamond/Worley to help sort out the 40man roster. Let swarzak, fien, burton battle for the closer spot.
  4. I'm sure it's going to take 2 years @ 7-8 a year. Although I'd let Pinto roll with it & sign Arencibia to compete with him. If they are determined to sign a vet Salty @ 3/10 is much better value than AJ getting that.
  5. I would very much prefer this over AJ/Salty. Let Pinto & Arencibia battle it out in ST for the full time duties. Send them Worley & Duensing for him lol
  6. Worley will not make the team & be DFA'd after ST. Diamond will make the team in the long relief spot start role. I'd rather they moved Duensing allowing Theilbar & Albers to be the main lhp out of the pen. I don't think Diamond can cut it. I'd rather see Tonkin, Pressley, or even Achter & Jones out there. They won't give up on him yet though. I wish they'd move Burton, Duensing, & Doumit. I'd rather see some of these guys break in on lower leverage roles in the majors. Gibson will be given the chance to win a job out of ST & I think he will. He was pretty good last year until he got up there in innings which is normal for players after TJ. What I expect: Nolasco, Hughes, Corriea, Deduno, Gibson Perkins, Fien, Burton, Swarzak, Duensing, Diamond, Theilbar. What I'd do: Nolasco, Hughes, Corriea, Deduno, Gibson Perkins, Swarzak, Fien, Theilbar, Albers, Pressley, Tonkin Trading Diamond & Worley to a team like the Astros. Then Burton & Duensing to a contender. Also moving Corriea at the deadline for Meyer.
  7. Deduno is one of those rare players who defies conventional statistics. He has always had so much sink & movement on his pitches his control has been terrible walking an extreme amount of batters. He made up for some of that with his out worldly ground ball rates from so much downward movement. Last year he pitched to contact more which helped cut his walk rate in half. The WBC really helped his confidence too.
  8. I am constantly being logged out of TD, whether its after taking 10-15 min to respond to a post or create a new one. My browser flips it back & forth to compatibility mode now & then & that seems to cause issues I can see with logging me out. However even if I'm logged in and then open a thread in a new tab Im not logged in on that tab but am from the other. Ive never seen a website behave this way. Anyways love the site & this is just a small gripe. Keep up the good work!
  9. I think he was more mocking the (Powertrip?) for the stats they were using to judge the deal. I listen to the show fairly regularly & they aren't bad overall but are terrible when it comes to Baseball. Hawkey is one of the most uninformed sports analyzers I have ever listend too. It was a solid B to B+ signing. They got a guy they liked for a very fair deal market wise & did so early in the process.
  10. "Give me Deduno or give me death!" I'll go on record as saying no matter who else they sign Deduno will end up the 2nd best starting pitcher on the staff.
  11. If you take out his last 3 1/2 starts where he was obviously hurt Im sure those numbers change significantly.
  12. In over half his starts last year he pitched into the 7th inning while giving up 2 or less runs.
  13. This is the only concerning part is it is the Twins medical staff... Not even weathermen are wrong as often.
  14. I don't understand why so many are quick to write off Deduno's future in the rotation. I thought he really turned a corner last year in realizing how to pitch with the extreme amount of movement on his pitches. He's only 30 and hasn't had a lot of wear on his arm IP wise. He is cost controlled not even being arbitration eligible until 2016. After having an amazing WBC run winning it all for the Dominican's he missed some time to start the year as well as at the end of the year but hasnt had a significant injury history Im aware of. Only 1 start he didnt go atleast 5 IP last year was when he was pulled due to injury. He is the type of pitcher who will have a real bad clunker on occasion but will give you many more starts where he unhittable. I'll take a SP every time who will give you 7 IP with 2 ER or less 4 games followed by a 5 IP 5 ER clunker over the SP who will consistently give you 5-6 IP with 4 ER. Prior to trying to pitch through shoulder woes where he had a brutal 3 game stretch before being shutdown he was 8-5 with a 3.17 era. He is the epitome of what you want in a back of the rotation starter. A cheap veteran who's able to matchup with the other teams ace on almost any given night. Besides that his starts are crazy fun to watch!
  15. It also makes the team more appealing for he likes of the Garza, Arroyo, Feldman, Hughes etc.. type pitchers. Knowing it isnt 4 junk ballers behind them destined for a 90 loss season definitely enhances the chances of landing a guy like Garza.
  16. FIP & BABIP can be a very useful tools but it can't always just be assumed that if someone has a high marks in those areas that its just bad luck & will trend back toward the mean. Pitchers like Pelfrey who pound the zone with 92 mph fastballs with little movement are going to have many more hard hit line drives hit on them regularly. These types of hit balls are always going to find gaps more often than softer hit balls giving hitters a higher average on balls put in play. Honestly I would rather roll with Albers behind Corriea & Deduno than mess with Pelfrey again.
  17. Im ok with Hughes, he is an upgrade & should be a little better outside Yankee stadium but I do think so many games in Comerica & US Cellular negate some of that. I'd preffer Arroyo or Capuano slightly but if going after Hughes allows them to add a bat I can see how that would work.
  18. Comerica & US Cellular say hello...
  19. Nolasco signing at 12 mill per, its safe to assume it would take about 15-16 mill per year over 5 to get Garza. Salty reportedly would accept the 1st 3/30 offer he received. If the Twins signed all 3 counting Mauer, they are commiting 60 Million to 4 players over the next 3 years. That sounds like an absurd amount to have comitted to only 4 players. How is it possible to afford that? They have another $20 million coming off the books in 2015 losing Willingham, Corriea, Burton, Doumit, & Duensing. With the new $25M a year TV money a $100 million annual payroll isnt out of the question, that leaves 40 million to fill out the rest of the roster. Normally that would be impossible to field a competitor. What makes it very possible is the big wave of prospects & young position players the Twins have on their way. They can fill the other 17-21 roster spots with players on rookie contracts easily. I could see Arcia, Sano, Buxton & Meyer all being super 2 candidates but that is still 3 years down the road. C Salty - 10M 1B Mauer - 23M 2B Dozier 2 years pre arb remaining - (Jorge Polanco) SS Florimon 2 years pre arb remaining - (Danny Santana) 3B Sano 3 years pre arb remaining - (Matt Harrison) LF Rosario 3 years pre arb remaining CF Buxton 3 years pre arb remaining RF Hicks 3 years pre arb remaining - (Max Kepler) DH Arcia 2 years pre arb remaining SP Garza - 15M SP Nolasco - 12M SP Deduno - 1 year pre arb remaining SP Albers - 2 years pre arb remaining SP Meyer - 3 years pre arb remaining SP Gibson - 2 years pre arb remaining SP May - 3 years pre arb remaining BP Swarzak 2 arb years remaining BP Fien 1 year pre arb remaining BP Pressley 2 years pre arb remaining BP Theilbar 2 years pre arb remaining BP Tonkin 3 years pre arb remaining BP Jones 3 years pre arb remaining Being able to fill 7 of the 9 position & 7-10 pitchers with players under their rookie contracts is almost unprecedented. Having potential #1 Alex Meyer very close to being in the majors & slotting him as your #3 starter while having options galore with your 4-5 starters still under rookie contracts. The Twins could easily have room going forward to afford a trio of Garza, Nolasco, Salty plus a stopgap LF such as Rajai Davis until Rosario takes over LF. Those signings alone instantly put the Twins in the crosshairs to compete for the division in 2014 & beyond.
  20. But we are dying to know how you feel about this? I am curious, what type of stats would Nolasco need to put up to be considered a fair contract with the terms being now known?
  21. The 1 year remaining on his contract restricts his value to me. I think Polanco, Gibson, Worley, & Burton should be plenty. I wouldnt offer any prospect higher than Polanco. IF it wactually takes more than that to get him via trade then I would just preffer to move on to Garza, Arroyo, or Capuano hinestly.
  22. I like the 2 year vesting option giving a lower buyout over a higher straight buyout option.
  23. That is actually a great deal, much better than I had expected. Very good move TR, now bring us another one like this with Garza.
  24. Unless Pelfrey is in the 3 mill or less a year category no freakin way. He was terrible last year & hated watching hiom pitch period. Any plan with Pelfrey as the 2nd veteren has me giving a 3 at best. Arroyo, Garza, Capuano, Feldman, Bailey, Samardzija, & Anderson or bust! I dont think they want to give up the draft pick to get Jiminez or Kazmir. Add any of these poitchers with Pelfrey being the 3rd then it moves to a 8-9
  25. Polanco is a pretty good 2B prospect, if I were the Reds & knew I wasn't going to resign him I would definitely move him. Ploanco + Gibson is a pretty good package. If they wanted someone like Burton or Fien with Twins bullpen depth I could live with that. Allowing them to have Chapman move off the closer role to the rotation.
