A while ago a post was going around twitter about a 19 year old Twins prospect named Donny Breek striking out Wander Franco in a Spring training game. Does anyone know who he is or how he got recruited?
On August 1st "Big Game James" Shields will take the mound against the Twins in the game with the Royals. The last time that happened (just shortly before the All Star break) it didn't go to well for the Twins. What kinds of things do you think could give us better odds this time around?
The Marlins lose to everyone this year...except the Twins. Is it because of some kind of Twins kryptonite they've found on us? It's not because "the Twins stink" because they don't. This is a team that has beaten clubs that are much better than the Marlins so what is about Miami? I went back and looked and it seems like Giancarlo Stanton and Rob Brantly bothed played notable roles in the Twins defeat on April 23 and in last nights defeat. Are Brantly and Stanton the Twins kryptonite? or do the Marlins simply posses something like a piece of the last ball to strike out a Washington Senator before the team moved to MN? More importantly what can we learn from Brantly and Stanton? is it a pitching style that they benefit from?
So while both my parents grew up in Minnesota (hence was I raised a good Twins fan) I actually live in Switzerland. So lately I've decided to check into the local baseball scene and see what's going on. Baseball here is not really well known (up until recently the baseball federations home page featured a "what is baseball?" video) but there are enough Americans and South Americans to have a league. The Bern Cardinals have a wins average of .857 so I guess they are the top dogs. Their star being Perigo Mejias with 20 RBI and and .676 AVG. Their pitcher Lawson has an ERA of 1.54 (Switzerland is apparently the land of dream stats) well so that's some of what is going on in baseball in my part of the world.
The Twins are only 6 games behind the Tigers which is still within the realm of possibility. I'm hoping for a sweep of the Marlins. If the Orioles give a good licking to the Tribe (as they are capable of doing) then the Twins could be in second place at the end of this series with Miami. That'll give us a good basis for Gibson to work with.
I was thinking about this afterwards and I've alluded to this idea on another thread: what do you think of the idea of simply moving around the roster as it currently stands? For example why not try Casey Fien as a starter? He seems to have done a decent job as a reliever and I'm sure he could last more innings than Walters did last night.
I don't really know what I'm talking about, just throwing out the idea here. Why not try some of the relievers as starters? Casey Fien seems to do a decent job and I'm sure he could last longer as a starter than PJ Walters did yesterday.
i'm nervous about trading. Willingham may not be getting as many hits as some but he has more home runs than anyone else on the team this season and that counts for something. I don't really know where the weak spot is on the team. This second game with the Indians certainly gave the impression that it was the pitching's fault but in the first game it was the offense that just didn't materialize. I don't know that there is a magic trade that can be made right now.
That was my take on it too. I had high hopes for this series telling myself "sweep this and the Twins are second in the division and on the way to a potential third sweep in Miami". Well it was not to be....
