  1. I'm pretty sure I've heard Gardy say he would prefer Arcia in RF. Only reason he was playing LF was because of Parmalee can only play RF
  2. just move him back to short and buy all the fans hockey gear on the 1st base line:p
  3. People need to realise it takes two to tangle. A FA has to want to pitch here or take a lot more $ than he is actually worth. We maybe looking at FA pitchers like Pelf and KC until the wave of position players come up. I think Ryan is just waiting for that anyway to sign someone big.
  4. The best point in Souhan's article IMO is about Sano and how the Twins messed up with Hicks. There is one other player who should have arrived in the Twins’ clubhouse on the same day as Pinto: Miguel Sano. What the Twins should learn from Hicks’ awful rookie season is that he should have been called up last September. His first big-league at-bat should have come batting ninth against some middle-of-the-rotation Royal, not batting leadoff on Opening Day at Target Field against Justin Verlander I usually don't like Souhan but this was spot on. Especially with a straight from AA player.
  5. Sorry to nitpick Mr. Bonnes , but Souhan wants the Twins to sign A.J. to play catcher, not 1st (Mauer and A.J. at 1st doesn't make sense) Mauer is not recovering quickly from this concussion, and he will never be able to avoid foul tips and home-plate collisions while catching. It’s time to move him, and if the organization deems Pinto unready to replace him, there is one other, bizarre-yet-logical option behind the plate: His name is A.J. Pierzynski And the reasoning is the lack of *characters* in the Twins clubhouse The biggest thing might be Mauer's move to 1st is his desire to catch. Every interview he sounds like he would hate to move and I think Gardy would prefer him catching. I think it depends on his recovery and the development of Pinto/Herrmann at catcher vs Cobelleo/ Parmalee at 1st. My guess for 2014 would be 50-75 games catching and the rest at DH/1st. Much like 2012.
  6. Buxton has had a longer season than what he is used to in the past. Anyone know what the point of him going to the AFL? Seems like he could use a rest.
  7. I would like to see what we have with Romero before bringing Sano up.
  8. Trade him if you can. Babe Plouffe has turned into baby plouffe (cap intentional)
  9. I see a lot of fantasy FA (esp. pitcher) signings, not just here but other comment broads. I know that it's a FO excuse too, but it takes two to tangle. Minnesota is not a place were FA have on the top of there list, at least the front line FA. Any no way would Ryan sign any pitcher for 15$ a year, esp how Lincecum has pitch last 2 years. Johnson at 7$ is maybe reasonable, but it better be incentive based. Siezmore I don't see coming here, esp with our outfield depth in the minors. I think they give Hicks another shot or even Mastro starting. Depends on ST again (a sad repeat of last year)
  10. A lot different actually. Glad we didn't resign him. Worried about Berrios though.
  11. Winning background in the majors. That our minor league teams have all winning records (and dominance in A ball) gives me hope too.
  12. Agreed. Yes there are debatable claims- Berrios hitting 98 and no 3rd pitch (thought he threw a change-up and a decent one), May with a lights out curve and moved to closer, Harrison at 1st (rather see Vargas, D. Hicks or even Mauer there (Pinto @ C), Albers as a top prospect and Hendriks as a "innings eater" (is there a Australian food dish called "innings" I never heard about?) ;-). In general though the article was a little ray of sunshine in the late August/ September doldrums of Twins baseball the last 3 tough years
  13. Mr. Smith has quickly become the 2nd least liked manager in the Twins system. Is he really as hard-nosed and by the book as he sounds?
  14. Just want to say I love this series and the passionate discussion it stirs up. Hopefully I'm not playing spoiler, but are you guys planning on doing a overall "what's the the plan" I.e. a look at who will be playing where/pitching in the rotation in 2014/15?
  15. Then watch a entire fan base deflate as both struggle Hicks-like and are sent back down. Being a GM is a tough, tough job and bringing these two up is going to be a tough, tough decision. A lot is riding on bringing our top prospects up and not just Sano and Buxton.
  16. Where can we find Mauer (or Domit or Hermann) catching era (or advanced stats)? I think that would show even more how valuable Mauer is catching (or not). Didn't we have this debate 2 years ago (the infamous bilateral leg weakness year)?
  17. It's never that simple as "it's Anderson's". Who know maybe Anderson did the arm angle thing with Liriano? Sometimes when you hear the same voice for years (4+years in this case) you start to tune it out when it's saying something you don't want to hear. Married anyone?
  18. Yes, I read that too. That's why I didn't say "bring them up and play them everyday".
  19. I brought this up in another thread, but what is wrong with bringing Sano and/or Rosario (or even Pinto) up (besides the 40 man issue) in September and sitting them on the bench 80% of the time just to soak up the experince and bring a few more people to the ballpark.? A pinch-hit there, a late game substitute here and at most a spot start once a week.
  20. I don't see a problem, it can even a benefit, if a pitcher like Albers is followed by or proceeds a *better stuff* type pitcher (esp. Right handed). At least the first time go though I think it may be a adjustment for the batters. One Albers/Diamond type pitcher is ok. Problem is when you have 2/3/4/5 of them.
  21. Huh? I heard (it is even described as "Nice" in the article) that May's curveball is at least his 2nd if not best pitch. I'm wondering if he needs a 4th pitch- like a Casey Fien-like cutter for example. A little off subject: is anyone concerned with our coaches in New Britian?
  22. Spot on. Meyers is a tough case. I feel bad for the FO, no matter what they do with Myers it could be the right decision or the wrong one. Lets see how that shoulder does in off-season, if it does well and ST goes well starting in Rochester makes sense to me
  23. Remember too that Plouffe is the too laid back/ lack of focus California type. Seems like a few times this year (& last) they have mentioned Romero publicly just to get some fire under Plouffe's feet. Calling up Sano in Sept., even just to sit, would get Plouffe's attention.
  24. If it's not broke don't fix it. You don't mess with Dozier head by moving him back to SS. You just got his confidence up after working his butt off learning a new position this off season. Fortunately I believe the Twins think this way too. Dozier and Floriman work great together. When Rosario is ready in 1,2,3 years then you cross that bridge then (sounds like Rosario has a lot to work on defensively anyway).
  25. There is something I really like about Berrios. The video of him reacting to getting drafted, to his dominance last year, to his Spring Training reports (remember those). He came down to earth this year, yet I would be bummed is he didn't make the big club in 3-4 years. Anything else on the guy?
