  1. The rationale of the Rocco supporters would mean that MLB managers are never deservedly fired. A legitimate question is if this month of September doesn't warrant a change, what does? 2021 did. 2022 did. 2024 did. This isn't Rocco's first rodeo with epic collapses down the stretch.
  2. Clown show organization.
  3. Francona had been there a while. He was admittedly tired. Managers have a shelf life. That's not blaming him. What would be the reason for their turnaround? What changed? Other than the manager...or, maybe Clase really did find some undetectable PHDs.
  4. Exhibit A and Exhibit B. The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Mets. Interesting how two teams that missed the post-season in 2023 suddenly remembered how to hit and pitch in 2024. I wonder why? Must have been some major changes to the respective rosters. Hmm...that's not it. Oh wait. New managers! Managers matter.
  5. SWR definitely a bright spot in a season that turned out to be quite underwhelming. Excited to see him in 2025.
  6. Royce was right. He doesn't 'do slumps'. This isn't a slump. This is who he is as a hitter right now. He better get to work this off-season.
  7. Oh, the irony of Povich shutting out the Twins tonight.
  8. Welp, that one puts a bow on the 2024 season. Fitting, in a sad way, that a team that was 0-26 with RISP in March and April, went 2-19 with RISP in a must-win game. If Rocco's retained and they gut the rest of the coaching staff - it's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic - but that's what I fully expect them to do.
  9. I've seen a few folks theorize that missing the playoffs might be what prompts Joe Pohlad to make sweeping changes. Eh. Not so sure on that. I can see status quo regardless of what happens over the next 4 games. So might as well take your shot in the playoffs however unrealistic it might be...
  10. Royals represent the best chance for the Twins to make the playoffs. IIRC, they go to Atlanta this weekend and the Braves are playing for their post-season lives. Not sure the Twins can take care of business on their end with the Orioles, but I do suspect KC will drop 2 of 3 against the Braves. If the Twins can somehow pick a game today, and go 2-1 against Baltimore and have KC go 1-2...there's your path.
  11. Too soon to look ahead to 2025 but I wouldn't concede anything to Cleveland, Detroit or Kansas City. For all the bad luck and injuries endured by the Twins, those teams had a lot go their way. No telling if they're that fortunate again next year.
  12. I'm thinking whatever he was told, he's inside his own head and could use a different voice.
  13. After they got swept by Kansas City, IIRC, Rocco tried the tough love routine and took to writing on the white board. The team then came out even flatter and more lifeless than they were against the Royals and lost to one of the worst teams in baseball. I agree that baseball doesn't necessarily have the same level of 'strategy' as you see in the other pro sports. See ball, hit ball. See ball, catch ball. I guess it could be that simple. But more than the other sports, I think you need to have a manager that can push the right buttons and get his team to respond. 162 games is a long season. There's going to be highs and lows. Good managers have the pulse of their team and the players respond in kind. This team doesn't respond to Rocco. If they did, they wouldn't be in such a tailspin right now.
  14. This goes for quite a few Twins' players - I'd be curious to see what they look like with a different approach at the plate. Not saying a new hitting instructor would be a miracle worker - but it wouldn't necessarily hurt. I look to Brent Rooker as the cautionary tale of giving up on someone too early in their career.
  15. I've seen way too many mental errors and mistakes from the players. I've seem them look disinterested and lackadaisical. It was happening way too often and it usually happens when the team culture allows it to happen. Employees show up to work everyday and perform in the way that some Twins' players performed, the folks at the top of the food chain aren't going to blame the employees - the first stop is with the person tasked with managing those employees. For the posters that want to put the bulk of responsibility on the players, why then does a MLB team ever fire their manager? What does it take?
  16. It is alarming to see some of the Twins 'prospects' completely fall flat on their face as opponents develop a scouting report.
  17. Will Rocco be fired - probably not. Should he be fired - yes, he should.
  18. Finishing the season with 8 straight losses seems like the most likely outcome for this group.
  19. Looking forward to Morneau describing Cabrera's stuff like he's a combination of Justin Verlander, Roger Clemens and Dwight Gooden in their respective primes.
  20. I think SWR pitched well this season and was a pleasant surprise for a team that fell apart down the stretch. But, he's gassed and not sure how much more he has in the tank. Expecting big things from in 2025 however.
  21. We shall see. Book on Correa isn't closed yet.
  22. If you don't have confidence and trust in the people you work for, you will not produce at a high level. That applies to all walks of life.
  23. 'Trust' is just a euphemism for 'no feel for the game'. Rocco's married to his spreadsheets and it feels as if he goes into the game with a script and he sticks to that script regardless of what's happening on the field.
  24. At this point, I wouldn't be shocked if the last win of the 2024 season came on Friday, September 20th. This team's dead in the water and has been for quite some time.
