  1. Gibson is looking good today, that sinker is nasty when its on. I hope he takes the 5th spot, Worley is toast and we already have plenty of bullpen lefties to make Diamond expendable.
  2. Not really a spot for him if he clears, I wonder if a bullpen transition would start. He should be waived though wasting innings up here.
  3. Sounds about right to me. I think they will be trying to move Duensing and Corriea to open up spots sooner than later.
  4. I like the chances of May contributing in the rotation or at least pen. Revere was exciting, but he isn't going to haunt anyone and wasn't that big a loss.
  5. First game I have been able to watch this season, baseball really is back! Worley not looking good again, 3 doubles, a walk, 3 runs, and 2 outs so far. I think his days on the team are numbered.
  6. I like this move, Perk is a great story and has turned into a great closer. Reading Souhan's article about him and Mauer talking about playing out their whole careers, and winning a ring, with their hometown club was pretty cool. There was a time I wanted them to just cut ties with Perkins and move on, I was very wrong.
  7. I have one Doug Bernier experience. Around the time he was called I was in a store near where I live in California, grabbing a 6 pack, while wearing a twins shirt. The beer delivery guy came up to me and too my utter shock started up a Doug Bernier conversation. They used to play together (I forget which level) and he had got a call from Bernier about his promotion and how excited he was about it.
  8. I want to have hope for Worley, but his good preformances being inflated by the NL and by an obscene non swinging K rate are very worrisome. First response to the Revere trade seemed to be he was the main bait, but I think May's inclusion was necessary because Worley was much more of a gamble than presented at the time. May is still a starting question mark but his floor is a good reliever and Worley probably could be a league average 5th starter somewhere, but that was much more a trade of gambles both ways than I thought at the time. If May pans out as a reliever I am still happy with it, way more so if he sticks as a starter obviously, but I had thought the deal was a massive win for the Twins no matter how Revere turned out.
  9. They aren't huge splashes but I really like the additions of Johnson, Gilmartin, and Raley. The LH starter pool pretty much started and ended with Diamond and he is a major question mark on multiple levels. Raley may not stick for long being a rule 5 guy but Johnson and Gilmartin provide some badly need LH potential and both are former first rounders and cost only players with minimal trade value to acquire.
  10. Buxton, Sano, and Arcia give me a lot of hope for this team finally having a cocky competitive attitude and winning drive to it again. Arcia is aggressive in everything he does and as confident as they come, watching him strut around with shirt half unbuttoned and intensely react to everything that happens is a really welcome sight for me. He is my favorite Twin at the moment. Sano is going to take a little longer now but once hes here he also is a cocky confident player that is going to show a lot of emotion, particularly after he demolishes a pitch out of a stadium. Buxton is not provocatively cocky, but he plays with extreme intensity that can be seen as opposed to a Mauer type who just doesn't show it much (not a dig on Mauer he is amazing but very quiet about it). He is the best chance to truly lead the whole team and drive everyone to be better like a Hunter. Having imposing pitchers is also going to be an extremely welcome sight. I cannot wait to see an opposing team have the "oh ****" reaction the first time through the lineup vs someone like Meyer. No more small market crap, act like and be confident you are a competitive and imposing team, and its far more likely to become true. No more deer in the head lights Clete Thomas crap.
  11. Heres another interesting watch I found. Steve Delbar's story of blowing his arm out in A ball, getting a plate and 9 screws put in it, retiring, finding a training program as a high school coach, and coming back to make it to the majors throwing 3-4 mph harder. The training program was based off using weighted balls and actually holding them through the motion instead of releasing them all the time, which supposedly greatly strengthens the entire motion not just up to the release. I wonder if this is used by teams in the mlb much seems it would be much healthier to transfer some momentum to an object than just put it on your body, they liken to how tennis players rarely get shoulder injuries despite a similar motion to pitching.
  12. A lot people say it is the inverted W position that pitchers get into with their elbows above their shoulders during delivery. It puts a ton of stress on the throwing elbow to lever at that high position and snap to throw the ball. It is also a big velocity factor making pitchers throw harder which is why so many use it. Guys like Prior, Strasburg, Smoltz ect all are good examples of it and have all been injury prone. Whereas guys like Maddux, Ryan, Johnson ect have been relatively injury free while avoiding the technique. Its not hard facts but more of a topic of debate with people strongly arguing for both its importance and non importance. Here is a piece on it http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/PitchingMechanics101/Essays/DeathToTheInvertedW.html And just for kicks here is a video of the maxline pitching technique, that former cy young Mike Marshall has come up with that completely throws the traditional pitching mechanics out the window. Its an interesting watch and he has had one prospect get to the mlb that used a hybrid of the motion.
  13. Its official! time to put Buxton in a bubble wrap suit until he debuts in the majors!
  14. Theoretically Meyer and Gibson should both claim spots at some point this year with guys like May in the mix as well, there are already 3 multi year contracts pretty much locked into the rotation so the 5th spot and Correia are already going to have to make way for the kids at some point. So Deduno, Worley, Diamond, ect can hold the 5th spot until a rookie claims its and maybe they will have built up a little bit of trade value in the process. I don't see a need to bring in another mediocre starter at this point, if they went nuts and signed Ubaldo I would be happy but no real need to add any starters at this point.
  15. I was very against bringing Pelfry back and still don't have real high hopes for it going that well, this was a side to it I had never considered however. There are not many guys with Meyer's size that succeed and having one that has carved out a decent major league career on the roster can only help that development. Added bonus he seems like he is really into the organization and willing to do the extra things to help it grow. I am willing to drink this kool aid and take a rosier view towards big Pelf, though I promise nothing after I have to watch him pitch (or should I say stand around on the mound and lick his fingers) again.
  16. As always the Strib comments on this article are priceless. Forever bashing Mauer for being plain and over paid, they seem appalled that Sano talked with confidence. I am looking forward to seeing some big personality and power on this team. I doubt he makes it out of spring, but by all star break hopefully it is tater mashing time.
  17. Bernadino has a bunch of interviews from Twins Fest up on this link. Mauer, Sano, Nolasco, Plouffe, Dozier, Pelfry, Fien and Mastsquatch. Pretty softball stuff but entertaining in the dark months of baseball anyway. http://www.tout.com/m/ydyspg?ref=tw0ztdcf
  18. Diamond, Gilmartin, Johnson is enough soft tossing lefties to satisfy me. Good for Albers turned a long shot into a nice pay day through a lot of hard work.
  19. That was a good interview, May really went in depth on what he was working on and everything and where his thought process was at. Sounds like hes poised to take a big step forward and is addressing the control and consitency flaws holding him back. Hopefully he does so and he could quickly be knocking on the door of the rotation, but if he struggles in the minors or doesn't adjust to the majors well, he has the makeup of a late inning reliever to fall back on. MAZR and DruBU what could have been.
  20. He should continue to get a decent amount of fast balls with Mauer hitting behind him, teams don't want to put him on base or waste too many pitches nibbling at him. Despite the home runs he didn't hit for that high an average so challenging him early in the count is still an attractive option. At least to my eye test it wasn't all meat balls he did his damage on, whereas Plouffe's power outburst from 2 years ago was really just 2 months where he didn't miss a fat pitch. I think Dozier will continue to be a 15-20 home run threat.
  21. Simmons is an absolute defensive monster freak of nature, there is no discussion of who is the best. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/is-andrelton-simmons-having-the-best-defensive-season-ever/ P Flo has some good range and makes some difficult plays, but he also still struggles some with consistency botching to many easy attempts. He has the potential to be a nice player if he improves on the easy stuff and hits the ball at an acceptable clip. A defensive whiz SS that can hit 230-240 with some pop and steal some bags would be a nice player to have around.
  22. So just kind of a random thought that probably has an easy answer but what is stopping a good prospect that is coming out of high school/ college in the US from skipping the draft, signing with a Japanese team, and then getting posted after a year or two. If someone like Mark Appel had went to Japan for a year, wouldn't it be a win/win for the team to make the posting fee and Appel to skip the cheap arbitration years and have a choice of teams to sign with?
  23. The pen is pretty solid and will continue to be if they shuffle some pieces. Perkins/ Burton/ Fien is a nice top 3, and Theilbar seems a good loogy, that leaves 2 MR spots and a LR. Tonkin is knocking on the door for one of those and should earn it out of spring training but he, like the top 4, is a 1 inning guy. The last 2 spots go to the starters that don't make the rotation, Presley, Duensing, Swarzak, ect.
  24. I wonder if Duensing and Swarzak are being told to prepare to start so they can be evaluated in the same pool as Deduno, Worley, Diamond. One open spot in the rotation, two spots in the pen, and 2 guys go. That is assuming no one else, Gibson/ Meyer, blows them away in spring and earns a spot. Deduno has probably earned the right to the rotation spot if hes healthy and good in spring. I think Worley has the most potential of the group so he has the inside track on a pen spot. Diamond is probably the odd starter out but may stick as a Duensing replacement. I think Duensing is probably gone, Swarzak was pretty damn good as the long man last year but then again long relievers are pretty replaceable.
