  1. I think Harrison's advancement to AA to start the season completely depends on whether Eddie Rosario starts in AA or AAA. I also think that the atmosphere in Chattanooga will help many of those doubles to become home runs.
  2. They always say that the biggest jump, especially for college pitchers, is that jump to AA. He has dominated in the Florida State League (when healthy) and really struggled in his opportunities in AA. But some of that has been because of the injuries. How much is the question. Do I think he can be a productive big leaguer? Yes. I think he's got a good-enough fastball. I also think he's got a really good slider that could make him a good 7th inning guy. That said, I'm not ready to say that he can't be a back-end starter if the opportunity presents itself.
  3. Former, long-time big league catcher Gregg Zaun recently did an interview in which he discussed how Orioles' veterans, including Cal Ripken, Brady Anderson and others treated him (and presumably others). He talked about both physical and mental bullying kept him in line. It's not surprising to read all of these stories and accounts because back in the day, many just thought it was OK. I think it's disgusting. Even worse, Zaun basically said he wishes more of that would be in today's game. Uggh!
  4. Patrick Reusse, while in Ft. Myers recently, chatted with Twins Rule 5 pick JR Graham. Of course, as a Rule 5 pick, he will have to not only make the Twins opening day roster, but remain on the roster throughout the 2015 season or be offered back to Atlanta. Reusse introduces us to the 5-11 right-hander with a the big fastball who came back from shoulder injury in 2014. He explained why 9/11 meant a lot to Graham even though he was just 5-11. You can read the article here.
  5. Paul Molitor was a guest on Gophers Sports Update. Listen to Part 2 and Part 3 of Molitor's interview. In Part 2, he talked about his time playing with the Gophers as well as leading up the charge for a new stadium for the Gophers. In Part 3, he talks about his role in the Twins minor leagues and player development as well as looking forward to spring training and the 2015 season.
  6. Many people, myself included, believe that Paul Molitor's high baseball IQ will help him do well as the Twins manager. Phil Miller (Strib) posts a 3-page article on Molitor's baseball acumen. Phil spoke with the likes of Tom Trebelhorn and Jim Gantner to get a better sense of Molitor's intelligence in the game.
  7. I'll be the first one down there, and I fly down on March 8. I believe we'll be down there until Opening Day then.
  8. Hopefully with camp opening up tomorrow (or at least pitchers and catchers reporting), Halsey and several others will continue to update this thread with their thoughts and observations throughout spring training.
  9. I try to consolidate the two thoughts. There's no 100% perfect way because we can't account perfectly for the human factor.
  10. I'll make my roster projections in a couple of week... I'll have to give it some thought. Turner to Chattanooga. Garver to Ft. Myers. Navarreto and Fernandez to CR.
  11. There's no rush. Kepler and Polanco both get fourth options, and 2015 will only be their 2nd. No rush at all. They wouldn't be out of options until 2018. Of course, as you mentioned, other players will need to be protected next year and they'll have to show that they should remain. Can't have all prospects on the 40 man, but obviously the hope is that adding them at the lower levels they won't stay in the low levels.
  12. All three could start in Ft. Myers, so I'd be very surprised if any of them get to Rochester. That said, if they're dominating the Southern League for 2-3 months, they could move up.
  13. This may sound arrogant or whatever. I read all prospect rankings and consider that information. But those rankings don't really affect my rankings at all. I don't think their rankings influence mine at all.
  14. May has a pretty good chance. Meyer has a pretty decent chance. Rosario has an outside shot.
  15. No worries. It's a forum thread. Anything can be thrown out there to discuss. I'm just hear to try to answer any questions people might have. People don't need to agree with me, and can voice their own thoughts as well.
  16. I thought Jonathan Mayo answered it well on MLB Network's rankings. Buxton's tools are still the best in baseball, and it's not particularly close. Even though he missed most of the season, that doesn't change, and he's still just 20. Sano's power tool is huge (that's uncomfortable). That can't be taught, and it isn't gone. Rankings are not based on progress from year to year, although that is also a part of it as the player gets older. Each level they move up is a part of the progression. But it still comes down to tools and potential.
  17. The reason they keep giving is that he had such a problem with the wall in right and the overhang. I don't know about that. I think he can be an adequate outfielder in LF or RF. I think RF is better for him long term.
  18. Kepler - staying healthy, consistent power. Harrison - defense, power Walker - plate discipline, OF defense Goodrum - offense Polanco - SS defense consistency Sano - shake off rust, cut down Ks Rosario - take a few pitches Buxton - stay healthy, cut down Ks Turner - Just continue to improve all-around.
  19. I only saw him last spring, and I have heard that he drastically improved throughout the season. That said, I think Arcia will be OK.
  20. As you said, having 15-20 prospects that you believe have a legitimate chance at making the big leagues is important. You hope that 1 becomes a big start, a second becomes an All Star, maybe two become regulars, and 4-5 become nice role players. If that happens, we're happy. Without getting into specifics, it is definitely stocked well enough that they can be dealing some if they find certain needs.
  21. Arm: Hicks, Arcia, Rosario, Harrison, Kepler, Walker Range: Hicks, Rosario, Kepler, Walker, Arcia, Harrison Overall Defense: Hicks, Rosario, Kepler, Walker, Arcia, Harrison That said, Harrison is a very, very hard worker, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if his defense has already improved from last year when he was just making the move to the OF.
  22. These three are all so different. Jones throws the hardest, but he is the most inconsistent with his control. Shibuya has terrific control, he just needs to get and stay healthy. He could be a huge surprise to many. But, I think Lee has the best combination of stuff and control, so I think he can have a big season.
  23. Buxton - CF Polanco - SS Rosario - LF Sano - 3B Kepler - RF Walker - DH Hicks - 1B Turner - C Michael - 2B
  24. I think the most likely top 10 prospect remains Eddie Rosario, though I'd still be surprised. 11-20, I don't think anyone would surprise me, though I'd hope the return was good.
