    Good. He shouldn't come up that quick. My take for why they optioned him was to motivate him to earn his way back. He's a great prospect but certainly hasn't proven anything at the big league level. People complain about how the Twins coddle players and on the other hand they want Buxton to get called up right away or at the very least get paid like a big leaguer while in the minors. You want up and the big league money/lifestyle? Stay healthy and dominate AAA for a couple weeks. One other thought on the option. If Buxton hurts himself again in Rochester while on rehab he would stay on the mlb roster and get paid/collect service time, possibly into next year if really serious. By optioning him the Twins do protect from another injury. Plus Buxton needs to get some live reps. So yes, no brainer and obvious.

    Because he's been out for 7ish weeks and needs to prove he can stay healthy and regain his timing. He's done nothing at the mlb level to be given the benefit of the doubt on either of these. The idea he's blocked is preposterous but the fact that he should be put in a position to be successful isn't. Let him have some success and then bring him up. If he stays healthy he'll be back soon.

    Not saying they haven't earned it, but people are really in a bad place with the front office when they are killing them for no brainer obvious moves like playing Buxton in AAA for a couple of weeks before bringing him back up.

    I agreed with this as well. I thought the timing of the need combined with fact only a a couple starts were needed and the fact he was being fed into the Toronto crucible made the decision to bring up Duffey more prudent. Not sure I would agree going forward if it is an extended look. Probably time to bring up Berrios.

    Do you think he gets called up ahead of Buxton and Arcia? Barring injury they aren't calling up all three. I cannot remember the Twins calling up a prospect to sit on the bench, and it's not like Hicks and Rosario don't need the reps.

    Berrios is the better prospect by a long shot, but it is not unreasonable to think that Duffey gives them a better chance to win tonight and in the next couple of starts. I find it wise to not break in Berrios against Toronto in that launching pad.

    I surprised there haven't been more calls for a return of Vargas. That was such an obvious move less than two months ago.

    Agree on all this, yet somehow that trade was infinitely more explicable than the Hardy trade.

    There is certainly a difference between trading your 7th or 8th best pitching prospect and your only catching prospect.

    They are better than their record but also a classic construction to underplay run differential. They have a great offense that expands the margin against the weaker parts of opponent bullpens, and they have a weak bullpen that will result in more close losses (11-23 in 1 run games). That is some bad luck in close games but also some cluster luck in blowouts.

    They used him the last two days, back to back. Probably should have used Jepsen, or hell even Fien.

    Adding 3 years to a guy seems like a pretty big exaggeration, especially when you are using at as a point in the context of his debut relative to other elite prospects. Actually looking at ages would show he is doing fine, just a little delayed thanks to his latest injury. And I wouldn't worry too much about what other people are saying about Buxton and his usage. If he stays healthy he's in the bigs.

    Good comps and I stand corrected somewhat. I found similar guys getting 2-12, 2-15, 3-15 in the past two years, but didn't spend much time researching. Does show that 1-5ish which he will get next year is not outrageous though. But certainly not a deal.

    Just don't see it if he doesn't have space to play. I would rather they gave some at bats to Arcia and maybe even Buxton some extra reps before calling up Kepler in September.

    And considering a total of 2 SS (traded for each other) and 0 Cs were moved at the deadline, there wasn't exactly a huge number of those pieces floating out there.

    Probably seems like a big qualifier, and is different than absolutely, which probably explains some of the extra value. I don't disagree with the first part, hopefully he makes a similar signing this offseason to pair with the acquired Jepsen.
