  1. No, but he's been the one constant throughout his reign, and I doubt he had no say in Castro over Bartlett or Hardy getting the fast track out of town.
  2. I'd say not having a former no-hit middle infielder running the show who has a soft spot for, and "sees the value in" current no-hit middle infielders might be a start.
  3. The initial response was in reply to Seth's list, which had entirely guys who had won the pinnacle of their sports. When you throw out the list you did, then it begs the question: Why did they stick around if they didn't win a championship? That prompted the ensuing responses. Those guys were competitive in both the regular season and the postseason, and when they weren't, they retired or got fired. At this point, Gardy is a decade removed from being "competitive" (or as close as they've been in his run) in the postseason, and two years removed from even being competitive in the regular season. Better coaches than Gardy have been fired for less of a downturn in their team's fortunes. I mean, Dan Reeves went to three Super Bowl in four years, then got fired after going 8-8 three years later.
  4. Hmmm... something about that sounds familiar to this discussion...
  5. I'd say a sample of a dozen years is a pretty acceptable sample size. It isn't just that he hasn't won a championship, it's that the team hasn't even been competitive in the postseason. The reason the guys you listed were on there is because their teams looked like actual contenders when they hit the postseason. Levy went to multiple Super Bowls, ditto Grant, ditto Reeves. Reid went to one SB, and multiple NFC championship games. Knox went to multiple NFC Championships. Schembechler won multiple Rose Bowls in a time when winning the Rose Bowl still meant something. Ruff sports a winning percentage over .550 in the postseason. Guys like that stick around because of results, and when they don't perform, they get the boot in short order. (See: Reeves, Dan. NY Giants coach.)
  6. It probably says "other teams knew he'd be available due to roster space, and weren't going to give up something when they could try and get him for free".
  7. And how many of them claimed ONE postseason series or game in the win column?
  8. Thankfully, the Twins are also loaded with pitching depth, and thus don't need guys like Lannan.
  9. Any examples of long-tenured guys who didn't win championships at any point in those runs?
  10. Well, it didn't really move the conversation along, though...
  11. Well, I'm going to side with the ones who are trusted to enforce the forums rules on this one. I guess I'm not sure what exactly I did that made the Twerp respond like such a, well, twerp to most of my posts. Probably commented on a joke that went over gangbusters at the old MENSA meeting, but fell flat on the forum.
  12. Yes, he has. He really, really has. Much like the writer's "typo" in the Correia article yesterday, there's plenty of reason to doubt the pitcher in question without gussying up the case against him.
  13. So he just has to get better on offense and defense and he should be better. Careful out on that limb.
  14. From reading the thing, it appears he's referring to less-heralded prospects.
  15. Whew, at least it wasn't TJS. It would have been a waste of money to guarantee several million to a guy coming off of TJS. Thank goodness the Twins are wise enough not to do that.
  16. Don't forget that Correia's innings total was also skewed by his demotion from the juggernaut Pirates' staff.
  17. But what if you had to have a pitcher hit for an entire game! You can't take the chance of throwing away ABs to a terrible hitter, so you need Drew... Butera? Wait a minute...
  18. They always say that 9 underachieving seasons leads to a breakout 10th.
  19. Maybe not on Opening Day, but if they bring in better pitchers, there's a better chance that the fans haven't been completely turned off by the additions' poor performance by early summer.
  20. Yep, why even try to get better in any increment and give people the hope that if they are on the fence about going to a game that the team they could go see will be acceptably decent? Hell, why sign Correia or anybody at all? 25 minimum salaries or bust! It doesn't matter!
  21. I'd imagine the "equivalent of" 19,000 full season tickets would incorporate the partial season ticket packages used as some percentage of a "full season" package.
  22. The ellipses!!! It burnses us!!!
  23. Seeing as that was supposed to be 90% of the reasoning behind drafting Wimmers, I'm sure it factors in. On the other hand, given how the Wimmers thing panned, out, it may make them a little gunshy to weigh "ability to move fast through the system" too heavily.
