    They have a collection of hitters. Their top 3 prospects in many lists right now will be hitters right now in Acuna, Albies, and Maitan. I put up a midseason top 50 before I left Tomahawk Take, and 30 of the 50 were hitters.

    Why not? They drafted a pitcher this year. They have acquired a pitcher in nearly every trade made in the last offseason, even after having tremendous depth in pitching.

    Outfield is the deepest position in the organization. A top 30 does not indicate the depth of an organization...

    I'd wager more of a high-ceiling, low-floor type. A guy with a ton of risk, but still plenty of ceiling.

    They just averaged 40,000 for their first two series after the All-Star break, including two day games, one of them during a weekday. Fans must hate them.

    And Garcia did his usual throwing tonight. That means minimal. The deal wasn't final, so players played in their games. A few nights ago Todd Frazier played in a game while we all knew he'd been part of a trade but didn't know the trade value. Likewise, Tyler Clippard was warming up even after it was known that he was part of the deal. Until the deal is official, the player can still be used by his current team.

    Reading between the LENIII lines, it's a legit prospect, and that should be expected. Likely a guy like a Lewis Thorpe or Mitch Garver or Brusdar Graterol sort of guy.

    While their catchers may not be nationally known, they've got very good depth at the position from AA on down. Garver would be intriguing, and seriously, with Garcia the best rental pitcher available on the market, to get him off of the market before the deadline, I'd imagine the cost isn't going to be "cheap". It would be a legit prospect. Murphy's not that. I don't see any difference between Anthony Recker and Murphy.

    SS is a depth position in the org. Camargo and Swanson in the majors currently, but Jace Peterson is a SS by trade. Albies has moved to 2B to work with Swanson eventually, but they still have a ton of depth at SS down the system. Vielma would perhaps split time in AA. Otherwise, the SS's at every other level are entrenched and prospects the Braves want to develop.

    I also talked with Cory on his "Baseball Is Good" podcast for an hour tonight and much of it was about this proposed deal, so give that a listen!!

    One name not brought up in this thread that was mentioned a few times online tonight and is someone I know the Braves are familiar with is Graterol. He's got a huge upside, but he's a pretty "unknown" guy right now, so he could be the kind of high upside, low ceiling guy that gets a deal like this done.

    The Braves don't need a catcher on the 40-man. They'd go for Garver because they have a load of catchers at AA or lower and could use one that may be ready in 2018, but they have Murphy's in house.

    No reason to bring in Vielma. Nowhere to play him.

    They gave up a piece expected to be part of their major league bullpen. Prospect rank really doesn't matter at that point. Then you have one live arm with difficulty finding the strike zone and a gritty second baseman in the low minors with good pedigree. It was a pretty decent package of players to give up.

    They follow me on Twitter. I spent about 2.5 hours answering questions about the Twins system from Braves fans that have read me as a Braves writer for the last 4 years LOL I retweeted Seth's post that he had checked on the minor league lineups, which is I'm sure how that info got out as well. Matt got most of his info from me over the course of the night, though he's plenty knowledgeable in his own right on prospects.

    It's not a "read". It's talking with people inside the organization. The team's intention is to fill the rotation with young pitchers, hence needing an arm that handles multiple innings, not something in the current bullpen or something any of the relievers on the current 40-man can do. It's still an issue that the team is now using the option train to handle instead of having a long guy, having moved Akeel Morris up this week and optioned a starter down to get to the All-Star break. There are a lot of guys within the organization who loved Colon, and a lot that wanted him released without DFA'ing him, but the front office has turned DFA's into at least org filler gold in the past, so they attempted to do the same with Colon. They ended up having to release him due to no interest in him at his salary. The Braves handled things as classy as they could with a guy who didn't want to do what they were asking him to do in order to get the money they were paying him. Rather than have him be an issue, he was DFA'd and eventually released.

    Well, publicly, yes. However, when he was asked to move to a non-starter role, that "mentor" role suddenly shifted significantly. That's what eventually led to his DFA, otherwise, he'd be the long man in Atlanta right now.

    As a Braves fan, sorry. I announced my resignation to my Tomahawk Take staff the day Colon was DFA'd. I started at Puckett's Pond the day he was officially released. I end my first week with the Pond with him signing. Lovely. LOL. He's been toast all year. I had the misfortune of watching him befuddle hitters often the last few years, but he's not the same guy this year. His movement isn't the same, he's actually struggling with consistency in his simple delivery, which is certainly adding to the walks.

    So, any idea on Yeltsin Encarnacion? 19 in DSL, but shown good walk rates previously. This year, he's hitting .388/.508/.653 with 4 triples and an 11/3 BB/K ratio. Scouting the stat line so far as I really don't have anyone I keep in touch with that works Twins DSL, so until they play the Braves I won't hear back on him. Any idea before then on him??
