  1. You'd rather have Ty Cobb?
  2. Not close to the real story from Heyward or the Braves. He had major issues with Wren and refused to negotiate with Wren, so there was never a deal on the table long-term. Most close to the situation were surprised he'd even do two years. He's already talking about meeting with Hart to get something done long-term.
  3. Nope. That was intentional.
  4. In 2013, they had one of the most productive offenses in the league. That's the point.
  5. I don't see why they would at all, which is why he'll require a huge return in order to get him out of a Braves uniform.
  6. With the same team that was one of the most productive teams in the NL last year. The hitters just need to produce. The Braves are really not looking for more hitting this offseason. Peraza also is a 2B and has played there for a full season now. The system has a ton of middle infield depth. Ozhaino Albies has been referred to as the positional Julio Urias, who jumped from playing at a level above what his age suggested to one of the best prospects in baseball this year.
  7. I'd take that wager. I think the bias has run the other direction when that gets to be the conversation. Say what you want about Heyward's overall production and about they psychology behind the game, but Heyward is very obviously a hitter who does best when put in a batting order position and left there. He's also done what's asked of him in different positions in the batting order, including most of last season when he was asked to level his swing as the leadoff hitter in the order. Last year was only the second season he's been given even 400 PA in the same batting order position in a season, and the other was his rookie 2010 season. He's asked to move to the middle of the lineup, and I think if Justin Upton stays in town, a 3-4-5 of Freeman, Upton, and Heyward could be quite impressive in 2015. Those who watch Heyward can tell you it's there when he's allowed to go at the at-bat in his own way, but he's been so messed with up to this point.
  8. Cuddyer will be interesting as this is probably his last shot at a 3 year contract or longer, but he won't get AAV of $15.3M in that contract. Liriano is young enough that he might prefer secure money for 3-4 years over one year of big money. Baseball contracts are 100% guaranteed (unless there's a clause in for misbehavior, etc.), so if you were 30+, you might be more inclined to take 3 years and $30M over one year at $15.3M knowing that any year your market could fall through the floor and you never do end up making the rest of that $30M.
  9. No way Meyer alone even gets you to the table, so if the Twins were to get into trade talks with the Braves on Heyward, it's fair to say you'd be quite upset at the cost.
  10. I'm not joking. To get Atlanta to move on Heyward would require that cost. I'm not saying it would be wise for any team. If any team comes to Atlanta on Heyward, they're going to pay a king's ransom to move him because the team is wise enough to know that's the only way their fanbase would accept such a move.
  11. As quickly as the team moved to extend Andrelton Simmons, Craig Kimbrel, Julio Teheran, Chris Johnson, and Freddie Freeman once John Hart was hired last offseason, Heyward's absence from that list was very notable to every beat writer and Braves blogger, and the rumblings in the spring were that the main issue was Wren.
  12. Heyward has been very open that the only reason he did not get extended last offseason was his distrust of Frank Wren (you want to hear some crazy stuff, do a bit of research on the post-Frank Wren fallout in Atlanta - just crazy). He's made comments about getting a deal done this offseason already, which is why I was surprised to see a well-sourced writer like Buster mention him so prominently in his article, unless he was simply looking for clicks. Justin Upton is a different story altogether, especially when the team is actively looking to dump his brother to anyone who will take him.
  13. No, not basing the trade on his status as a player. I'm basing it on what the front office would have to get back to not be hunted down in the streets of Atlanta for moving their hometown hero. That said, he is an elite defender, so there's more than just "nice" to him. I could discuss the ruin that is Heyward being managed by Fredi Gonzalez, but that's another discussion for another day.
  14. Not debating that, and I'm one of the more clear ones among Braves fans, since I'm not in Georgia. He's a Georgia boy who has been other worldly defensively the last few years and been the face of the franchise since he came up, so it'd be akin to the Twins trading Mauer before he got the big contract. Twins fans would have ripped the front office apart unless they got a huge return, and that's the situation here.
  15. Meyer only, not a chance. Meyer AND Berrios might get you into discussions. And if the Twins didn't make the move of Heyward for Meyer, they're idiots, frankly.
  16. This answers all I needed to know about the discussion. Thanks for saving me significant time in the future.
  17. Also, the Braves have a glut of middle infield guys at or just about at the major league level, including their #1 prospect, Jose Peraza, who could challenge Tommy La Stella (young and quite talented in his own right) as soon as this year. Dozier wouldn't be of interest, and Plouffe even less so.
  18. Heyward may be traded, but it would be for a top 5-10 prospect in all of baseball just to get the conversation started. If a Braves outfielder is moved for something akin to the OP package, it'd be BJ Upton. That grouping likely won't get you in the door for Heyward or Justin Upton, both of whom the team would listen on for the right trade package, but I have a feeling that package would include a Buxton/Sano to start the discussions. May not take one of those guys to get the deal done if the deal was something like Meyer AND Berrios and some other pieces for Heyward, but basically think of Heyward as the Braves' Hershel Walker, expecting a conversation to be akin to that sort of organizational changing package of players.
  19. Not denying a win is the goal. I completely reject the notion of winning record being the only measure of success, however. It's akin to telling me that Bartolo Colon was better than Johan Santana in 2005.
  20. If winning games is the goal, people should be begging for the return of Glen Mason. As someone who played under Mason, I'll tell you that would be a major step backward for the program.
  21. Your position is duly (and repeatedly) noted.
  22. First "big" trade of the offseason went down today with Adam Lind moving from the Blue Jays to the Brewers for Marco Estrada in a move that gives the Blue Jays more pitching and saves them roughly $3M. MLB Trade Rumors also put up their predictions on the big free agents this year. You can check it out here: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/2014-15-top-50-free-agents-with-predictions.html BTW, if you haven't found it yet, MLB Trade Rumors started a new podcast, and I've found it to be an excellent news source thus far. Check it out on iTunes or your podcast provider!
  23. I will continue to wish the TWolves still had the best of the three PGs they drafted that season - Ty Lawson.
  24. This was his best season of defense, per any metric. The Royals just chose to use a "super defense" mode late in the game, moving one of the best center fielders in the game into right field to cover virtually every inch of the outfield. I'm honestly hoping they consider Aoki in Atlanta if they can find a taker for BJ Upton.
  25. The Gophers won 3 games in 2011, 6 games in 2012, 8 games in 2013, and a .500 record in November would give them 8 wins with a bowl game ahead. The Big Ten records would be 2 wins in 2011, 2 wins in 2012, 4 games in 2013, and 5 wins in 2014. Yes, similar, but you can't be so obtuse as to say an equal record means an equal team, can you really?
