  1. First off, assuming Liriano is traded, I don't see any need for Butera on the 25-man (not that that won't stop Gardy from finding another reason to keep him). W/O creating another 40-man spot, there's always Tosoni and Arcia, but you'd run into the same problem with Arcia having to play every day. That leaves Valencia and Nishi. Non-roster options are Carson and Burroughs. Second off, the pitching situation should be first off, as there are far more questions to be answered in the next 24 days here than just the 12th/(13th) positional bench spot(s).
  2. Great! Can we send him down to Roc to join Blackie tomorrow?
  3. No Span again. Is he gone during the AS break?
  4. Fielder's forearm played a large part in indenting Laird head and face.
  5. 91. Simple stuff, Dimey pitched his tail off.
  6. But these two are our bi-closers and we were assured they would both be available today. Terrible BP management.
  7. I'm guessing Gardy would hand you the line-up and say something like, "c'mon, that's simple stuff".
  8. I hesitated on putting Robertson into my why we sign Brian Fuentes thread-post, but with apologies to Nick Nelson, Duensing was perfectly suited for his RP role and demonstrated in the past as an SP, not so much.
  9. You will note for future reference that irony is part of my stock in trade.
  10. Exactly. And today is an example of when they are supposedly "very good".
  11. I was thinking the same thing. That's worthy of a Joe Soucheray- "In my lifetime"- predictions.
  12. I agree- too good an athlete, but that inability to tag out Mastro was Biggest Loser-chuckle-worthy champ if not for Fielder's missed tag(s) at first.
  13. Shocking, Santiago muffs another dying quail.
  14. BTW, this inning demonstrated that neither Fielder or Cabrera can see their own toes, let alone be able to touch them.
  15. Tigers need less Fielders in the field and more fielders in the field. As brought up in the Casilla thread, Dombrowski has to be in denial at what's happening out there. It took Fielder almost 5 minutes to acknowledge that he almost ended his teammate's career, careless play, yes, but add oblivious and/or clueless- if not greviously indifferent to the description of his defensive ability.
  16. The difference is Fielder's weighs more than the two Twins runners combined.
  17. The defensive numbers would suggest a huge upgrade in the field. This year's numbers indicate Casilla is at the top and Detroit's 2Bs are at the bottom.
  18. He's 36, so he very well might be running out of gas, but his big league career as a whole strongly suggest at least for the near-term would definitely be better than the others. The fact is though, his numbers before 6 of his last 7 games (all but one in June) were excellent, with only one bad performance in 19 from March to the end of May. Effective lefties are rare commodities, it's certainly worth exploring a potentially low-cost/low-risk option, the evidence suggests he may only be going through a short-term bump in the road. If it does or doesn't work out, he's easily removed from the roster with little lost and quite possibly, something gained. Also, it never hurts to have another veteran out there to help mentor the young arms.
  19. Add Rod Carew to the skip list
  20. After watching them play again this week, it looks like at least a good part of their pitching problem is how horrible the defense is. Bolstering or shoring up the MI, especially when they are so god-awful on the corners, would seem to be a logical and inexpensive quick fix. Santiago and (especially) Raburn are just bad, bad, bad and based on their batting slash lines, are performing at Lexi-like batting numbers. It bears repeating, based on his past, Casilla still probably has a couple of 14-21 day tears still coming at the plate.
  21. You mean to the Tigers??? I would bow down and worship at Terry Ryan's feet if he could pull that one off.
  22. In the case of the first 3, is that a function of their limited MLB service time?
  23. Shane, please attack with numbers. I am definitely not a fan nor defending him. The Tigers did us a favor taking Delmon, this looks like a possible win-win scenario.
  24. Earlier I proposed that the Tigers might be interesed in Casilla, much like they readily took another Twins castoff in Delmon last year. In case you are wondering, in the field, both Santiago and Raburn have negative UZR numbers over the below time frame, with Raburn being exceptionally awful and as Santiago showed last night, capable of multiple Lexi-like moments of his own. 2011-12 numbers Casilla 255/309/350 Age 28 Salary $1.38 Mil Tigers primary 2Bs: Santiago 248/307/356 Age 32 Salary $2.1 Mil Raburn 234/279/381 Age 31 Salary $ 2.1 Mil
