  1. Carroll's value depends on how many AB's he has when traded, I don't believe a team will want to trade him and then have to bench him so his option goes into effect. Parmelee has no trade value, but I don't know if he is someone the Twins really want to dump, look at Garrett Jones, and you see Parmelee but Parmelee is a better OFer and a better overall hitter. So I think the Twins will wait and see, he could be the 1B of the future. Morneau and Willingham have value but they are guys who you have to be careful when trading because trading them because it won't look good at the fan base, because they are both fan favorites. Perkins and Burton? I'm all for trading relievers but they are cheap, under contract for a while, Perkins is a big fan favorite, so I'd say I doubt they would trade either of them. So who gets traded? Maybe a starter or 2. They won't trade Corriea, though they should. Pelfry would probably be traded if an offer is decent. Maybe they pull the trigger if someone wants a DeVries or a Deduno. My guess is though if someone gets traded its in the bullpen. Every year someone over pays for a bullpen guy and the Twins have a few. Duensing struggled today but will have value if he continues to perform. Others in the pen as well. Looking at AAA the bullpen is the only real spot that somewhat has performed. So if 2-3 guys are traded they have some guys that could come up.
  2. The thing with Hernadez is he has to get more efficient, even when he is at his best he is a 5 inning guy. As a lefty with decent stuff, getting sent down to AAA could do him some good. As for Worley I think AAA will end up for him, but traditionally coming back from elbow surgery your command isn't 100%, he just needs to get the ball down, I think that will come, but yeah AAA is getting to be a realistic option. Pelfry, he hasn't been bad, I think he is a guy you just put out every 5 days and hope he has some trade value come July.
  3. pitch for contact- it helps when you play in a pitchers park in cold weather, but the fact that the OF defense is terrible probably hurts it a bit. With the weather warming up it will be interesting to see how Correia transforms.
  4. Some of it is human error, some of it just happens, but much of it is on MLB, they don't punish these umps enough for some of the bad calls. The replay should be a nerve center like hockey and college football where someone that didn't make the original play is making the review. Because no one wants to admit a mistake. The play in Houston is just one of those brain farts where your not really sure what the rule is and it never really happens so they weren't sure.
  5. I think that just proves my point more, if he was 21 I might agree with there thinking even 23 I could see it but at his age (and innings limit) him at AAA is stupid whether he is ready or not, he needs MLB exposure.
  6. I was just looking at relief pitchers who are on the 40 man roster in AAA. Wood had been doing well before having a rough outing, maybe that was due to the setback injury wise. The bullpen obviously needs some help, as its been taxed pretty heavily in the week and has racked up some hefty innings already. I'd probably go Thielbar then as Robertson is more of a 1 guy type of pitcher 1 inning tops where Thielbar is more of a setup man who is a lefty. I don't know if there are any other options really available for bullpen help at AAA. It doesn't have to be for a long period but for 10-14 days where there is an extra arm out there can help quite a bit.
  7. Gibson is 24-25 years old, with a pitching limit this year, the Twins shouldn't be waiting until he is 100% ready, he is at a point where they have to figure out if he is the answer. Its just stupid, its at the point where it doesn't even make sense. Lets let Gibson use 75 of his 130 innings at AAA and then lets evaluate him with 55 innings for the Twins, really going to get a solid evaluation from that.
  8. What the Twins should do and will do are totally different. Florimon though he has played good isn't a Mauer, therefore if its going to be more then 4-5 days he should be DL'd. With lack of options, I'd either go Hermann because he can play numerous positions or go for bullpen help with Robertson, Wood or Thielbar. I think Gibson for Hernadez needs to be a heads up move because if the Twins view Hernadez as a starter he needs to be a starter if they view him as a bullpen arm he should go to the minors and find his role in a bullpen. The Twins have options in the middle infield, Carrol can play SS, Escobar can play SS, Dozier can play it in a pinch and if the sky is falling Plouffe can slide over there as well.
  9. Its been rumored, I don't put a ton of weight in it though. The Twins either need to take the best arm available or the best player available. Cutting deals is only when your system in general is down, which it really isn't. The Twins need 1 or 2 more top prospects not 5-6 organizational mid level prospects which is what you would be saying by saving your money for lower rounds.
  10. I understand why Gibson didn't come up right away, but he is at a point where the Twins should want to see if he is a major league starter or not. Pedro Hernadez is a spot starter/long reliever at best, while Gibson is a #2 starter. The Twins should be wanting to figure out if he will be that #2/#3 starter for 2014 or will they have to move him to the pen and look at other options for 2014. If they are serious about his 130 IP limit then it is completely stupid to say tear up AAA before you get your chance. It was the perfect time to do so, (except for Hernadez's sister dying), but the bullpen had been taxed, so you bring up a Thielbar or a Wood to sit in the pen for a few days to give help and then when its Gibson's turn in the rotation you send them down (or someone else), and everything is dandy. Why do I get the impression that Hernadez is the Jason Tyner who shouldn't be on the major league roster but to prove a point to someone they keep marching him out there.
  11. Gibson needs to be in them minors he only has around 100IP left and should use that against the top talent so he can be evaluated to see where he is in the plans for 2014. Plus he is good enough to be a MLB starter. If the Twins do decide to make the Gibson for Hernadez switch do the Twins option Hernadez tomorrow and call up someone for the 4 games before Gibson would start? A Thielbar, Robertson, Wood for bullpen help.
  12. I believe that Hermann is way more valuable then Butera for the fact that he can play other positions. If you carry 12 pitchers and Butera you have a short bench without a lot of mobility. Now I agree you have to carry a 3rd catcher with Mauer and Doumit as your other 2 but if you have a guy who can play 3B, 1B and OF on top of it, the whole bench thing improves quite a bit. I do agree though that letting Herman get some AAA AB's is a good move, only problem I have is too many people in the Twins organization have way too much love for Butera.
  13. The problem is he fits the Twins style. I don't like that style. TR said they were going to get away from that style and what do they do? Go ahead and sign a bunch of people with no upside, that fit their style. If its a 1 year deal IDK and don't think its a big deal but if they are giving large multi-year deals to guys like Saunders and Corriea and saying hey fans we spent money. Well I would rather have that much less salary and let DeVries and whoever else have a 4+ ERA and give up gopher balls every 5th day for 1/10th the money.
  14. I don't know who bats 1, 2, 3 but I think the key is to not put a pair of .210 hitters a head of Mauer because they are fast or middle infielders. Unless someone is signed though I'd put Mauer 2nd behind who is playing CF
  15. Burnett really improved is command in Pittsburgh. I would have liked Liriano to stay with the Twins but not as long as Rick Anderson and Gardy are at the helm it just seemed like two exact opposites. Maybe it was all Liriano and he is just this awful head case but I got the impression Andy and Gardy added a little more to the equation then was ever reported. I don't think its a bad contract though, if Correia is getting 2-10 then Liriano is worth 2-14 any day of the week. If he has a sub 5 era and pitch 175 innings with decent KO numbers its about equal to value. If he fixes his control and has a sub 4 era and gets towards 200 IP's with above average KO numbers its one of the best deals this off-season. At worst though I think he could become a decent setup man/closer and with the contracts being handed out its still not a terrible contract.
  16. I don't care if he left money on the table, why are the Twins targeting these guys. I'd rather just throw out Cole DeVries and Sam Deduno for $500K then pay Correia 5 million.
  17. I'd be worried of anyone the Astros DFA'd, especially a 26 year old who seemed somewhat successful. There has to be more to the story, as in the Astros sucked worse then the Twins so I'm not what the whole story is.
  18. I'm not against the move, but if he has value at the deadline the Twins have to trade him.
  19. I wouldn't touch Dempster for anything close to that, but Sanchez unless there is something else either in the medical reports or just personal history, seems like a good deal. I would take this deal over the Correia signing any day of the week.
  20. Caleb Thielbar was interviewed at half time of the Minnesota-South Dakota St. basketball game by the SDSU radio network (he went to college their) and he said he has been invited to Spring Training. My guess is, most if not all of the 40 man roster, the handful of minor league signings and a half dozen or so prospects high A and higher not on the 40 man roster
  21. If this was a 1 year 5 or even 6 million dollar deal in February I wouldn't have a problem with it. But a 2 year deal in December is the big problem with this. There is other pitching out there. I'd rather have TR wait it out a bit and see what is there in January and February then to make this signing now.
  22. I don't have a big problem with dumpster diving, but pay dumpster like prices, not solid #3 starter price and give a 2 year contract.
  23. IDK, I see more upside potential with both of them and I'm guessing they would both cost less. Would rather the Twins sign one of them and then bring in a 10-15 million a year guy
  24. With the heat down in San Diego, the ball travels better than it does back here. Not a great move by the Twins, but one they clearly needed to make. Petco was 26th in runs allowed where Target Field was 10th in 2012, in 2011 Target Field was 21st but Petco was 28th, in 2010 Target Field 19th while Petco was 26th. Petco
  25. 2 years 10 million. He is Nick Blackburn. I had the guy on my fantasy team the year he had a sub 4 era in San Diego. He was a pitcher built for San Diego where the ball doesn't fly. I'm not a big fan of this move either
