A friend and I are having a debate as to what the average salary for a #3 starter makes annually, or what they can expect to make. I won't describe each sides point of view to eliminate bias. I wanted to run it by the Twins Daily community to see what the common opinion is. I look forward to your responses.

I think Hughes is definitely the one to go after for the Twins. He won't be too expensive is still young and fits in with the next "wave." Even if you have to overpay for Hughes I for one think he's the one worth doing so for. I think a change of scenery would do him good, I think a good comparison might be AJ Burnett going from NY to Pittsburgh.

Thank you for this analysis, I think many times most of us want to sign someone for the sake of signing someone. I might be in the minority but I happen to like the direction TR has the organization going. I can handle another year or two of losing if it means adding elite talent to our organization. There really is no need to make a splash right no IMO other than to put fans in the seats.

I have to admit my favorite thing about this video is his mound presence. His body language tells you he expects to dominate once he's on the bump. He will also rear back and come right after the hitters. Was nice to see him incorporate his change-up more in the latter half of the outing. If he can develop that pitch more look out.

This article just makes me sad thinking of how much talent has left the organization over the past handful of years and really have nothing to show for it

Sure the regular seasons were fun, but then the postseason would come and it was just embarrassing. it got old just being satisfied with winning the division then just knowing we'd get swept in the first round. Sure there are memories we'll never forget and those teams brought Twins Baseball back, however I want to contend for WS championships and outside of the 06' Team (even then Boof Bonser was our Game 2 starter) was deep enough to do any damage in the postseason. Sure it was a lot more fun than watching these teams the last 3 years, but in my mind this is paving the way for future success. Might be wishful thinking.

Oh I absolutely agree. I want them to trade all of the old and let the young guys play a la the Houston Route. I don't think the fans want to watch these older journeyman play anymore (I know I don't). It's frustrating that the Team fails to cash in on players when their value is the highest. Albeit we don't know exactly what the offers are, it would be nice to get anything, if even just salary relief.

Maybe I'm different but I just do not see the point in signing some mediocre players just to "compete." We did that in the 2000's and "competing" got pretty old. I'm of the opinion that if they're not going to legitimately compete for a WS are are 1 or 2 pieces away from being a legit contender than what is the point of signing said free agents? Why not just suffer through the bad and continue to add elite talent for a few more years if we're not going to legitimately contend? I know examples like the Royals and Pirates can be examined, that being said, I don't (maybe wishful thinking) think that will be the case with the Twins (i.e. suffering for 20+ seasons).

I think it should be every baseball fans goal in their lifetime to visit all of the Major League stadiums. Of the ones I've been to I would rank: 1. AT&T Park - San Francisco - this easily takes the cake for me, beautiful setting, angles of the seats are perfect, food is great, not over the top, just a perfect baseball experience, and I went in 08 when the Giants and Nationals were two of the worst teams in baseball. 2. Target Field - Minneapolis - This is a far second to AT&T park for me. Its a beautiful stadium, but the stadium just has a crammed in feeling to it. The whole stadium feels like its all on top of itself (if that makes any sense), nonetheless it is a great venue and proud its our Home Stadium. Can't wait for the All-Star game there next year. 3. Dodger Stadium - Los Angeles - The history and unique setting of the stadium are very cool. 4. Angel Stadium - Anaheim - Large parking lot and very cool mountains and fountains in left center field. 5. Petco Park - San Diego - Nothing too fancy about this place, cool views of downtown San Diego. Love the old mill they used in the left field corners. The beach behind the right center field fence is cool. 6. Wrigley - Chicago - I don't get the love of this place either. The place is a dump and feels like you're watching a game from an old bar. Not to mention the place reeks of Old Style beer. 7. Metrodome - Minneapolis - Other than the two world series titles and the home field advantage it gave us, the place had to go. Even playing in there in college wasn't really that great other than knowing the great players who had either stepped on that mound or batted in those boxes. 8. Qualcomm Stadium - Would have been ranked 7 had it been the Twins football/baseball stadium, due to it being outdoors. Before I started this list I thought I had been to more, and it makes me realize that I really need to get going on my quest to visit all of the Major League Stadiums. This has been a fun thread to read and post in!!! Much better than the negative posts that seem to fill this blog from time to time!

For the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone is upset by this move. The guy cannot hit anything offspeed and is a below average defensive player. He crushed in spring training because he got a steady diet of fastballs from pitchers who were working on locating their fastballs. What has the dude ever done to justify being an everyday player. Throw him sliders low and away and he will swing and miss everytime (maybe he learned this best from the beloved Cuddyer?)
