    No one i I'm not saying that but I do think you need some pretty solid pitching including someone who is willing to put the team on his back -- that very well may mean someone other than your Ace but having the security of an Ace can help the entire team's mindset (Of course it can hurt, too, if that Ace gets blown out.)

    But I think that you still need some very good pitching to be able to get hot and win it all. Maybe not an ace (especially if you limit your definition to 8-10) but some darn good pitching and somone who can dominate a game if necessary. Ask yourself if you were really surprised that the Twins didn't win a post-season game in 2010. I'll bet a lot of fans --- like me -- were not surprised they didn't win any, There was still hapless Ron Gardenhire totally intimidated by the Yankees; there was a team with little luminaries but no one looking very star-like and a team that had substantial downward momentum. Then there was the pitching -- Liriano, Pavano, Duensing et al. No one who could really take over and shut down a game (at least not Frankie in MN). I will never totally buy "Just get to the playoffs and anything can happen."

    Does Berrios do his own tweets? Except for the wedding photo last week, his tweets are so incredibly focused on his workouts and making it to the majors. Very impresed by the maturity of his attitude, Absolutely the prospect I most look forward to watching develop.

    Why do I feel the Twins get stuck in these endless cycles? I know this isn't unusual -- just grumbling. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/12/18/twinsights-hand-injury-sidelines-oswaldo-arcia/ The Twins’ projected starting left fielder hasn’t played since Dec. 10 for Caribes in the Venezuelan Winter League. According to local news reports, Arcia is dealing with a tendon issue in his right hand, suffered while grounding out to second in the sixth inning of a 9-8 loss to Aragua. X-rays taken the following day were negative, and Caribes officials described the injury as minor when asked by local media. Arcia, 23, was replaced in left field at the start of the next inning and hasn’t played since. Caribes has already clinched a playoff spot, so there’s no hurry to return Arcia to the lineup until the round-robin tournament begins on Jan. 2. To some extent Berardino is just rehashing but how I'd love to see a healthy season.

    An interesting review of where the Twins stand and how they got there. Blame former manager Ron Gardenhire all you want, but in the last three years he was given a rotation full of pitchers that could not get out of the fourth inning and a lineup half full of hitters who couldn’t, you know, hit. Blame Joe Mauer all you want, but he got hurt because, well, he’s human, and he can’t pitch and catch at the same time. Blame the Pohlads all you want, but they’ve insisted since Target Field opened that they’re willing to spend whatever it takes to put a winner on the field. This one falls squarely on Ryan, his inner circle (Rob Antony, Bill Smith, etc.) and the scouts employed by the Twins.

The D'backs apparently wanted Miley (& teammates) to be gluten free yet most teams don't seem to have much interest in providing good nutrition for their minor leaguers. I'd think good nutritional habits would be especially important for 16-22 year olds.
