  1. Minnesota Twins 2014: SB 99, CS 36 (rank 11th in MLB) Minnesota Twins 2013: SB 52, CS 33 (rank 25th in MLB) Molitor is one of the best baseball minds anywhere. The Twins would be lucky to have him as their new manager.
  2. I've always liked Gardy and thought Anderson was pretty capable. I don't think they have all of a sudden become bad coaches, but I do think the fire is gone. I think they've been worn down by these losing seasons and they aren't capable of turning things around. I think they both need to go at the end of the season. About a month or so ago, on ESPN 1500, they were talking about how Gardy had really put in a lot of extra time helping players like Hunter, Morneau and other top players from a decade ago, become successful at the major league level. They had a bond and he had a personal connection with them. Because of that relationship, they gave him their best and wanted to succeed under his leadership. To this day, a lot of those players will still credit Gardy for their early development. Yet the new crop of rising Twins' talent can't say the same thing. The person they credit, most often, is Molitor, who worked with them in the minors. My hope is that Molitor is named the next manager. He has one of the best baseball minds around and he has that connection with the younger players. Let Molitor pick his next pitching coach. I'm sure he'd pick a good one.
  3. Vargas will not be playing 1B at the major league level (except maybe in a game at a National League park)... He's a DH all the way... See David Ortiz
  4. Don't forget: Major Leagues Garrett Jones - .279/.344/.479 - Miami Carlos Gomez - .298/.374/.560 - Milwaukee Rene Rivera - .255/.281./.491 - San Diego Danny Valencia - .308/.362/.423 - Kansas City Ryan Doumit - .245/.260/.347 - Atlanta Minor Leagues Matt Tolbert - .210/.290/.226 - Philadelphia Jason Pridie - .292/.348/.456 - Colorado Joe Benson - .197/.313/.299 - Miami Matt Carson - .286/.383/.460 - Cleveland Clete Thomas - .259/.372/.353 - Philadelphia Philip Humber - 1-2, 3.70 ERA - Oakland Tyler Robertson - 0-0, 4.08 ERA - Washington
  5. There's a lot of negativity directed at Gardy, which I understand, because people need someone to blame for three dreadful seasons. However, if we're honest, it wouldn't matter if Joe Madden, Tony La Russa or Casey Stengel, brought back from the grave, were the Twins' manager during the past three seasons. The results wouldn't be much different. No manager or coach on the planet can turn Liam Hendriks into Justin Verlander or Trevor Plouffe into Evan Longoria. A manager can only work with what he has and Gardy has been given nothing to work with, especially in terms of pitching. Despite the Twins' horrendous play, Gardy remains one of the most respected managers in the game, among his peers. His hands have been tied for three seasons and everyone understands that. Everyone also understands that Gardy led some marginal teams to the playoffs in the 2000s, which I think is much more revealing about his managerial skills than three seasons with no talent. I'd like to see him stay, because given some talent, I think he can lead the Twins back to the playoffs.
