  1. I'm not as bothered by the details of this trade as I am the decision-making process that lead to it. This was the wrong time to trade Liriano -- how many contenders are willing to add a question mark (albeit a powerful one) to a rotation during a pennant drive? The Twins seem to be missing the concept of selling high and buying low. Young and Liriano really should have been dealt when they were more promising. I know, I know, the moves would have been unpopular, but it seems like the doubts from management have been there for both of these players for quite some time. Honestly, I hope Liriano does well, but because it's a within-division trade, if he does do very well it may signal the end of Anderson's or TR's career with the team.
  2. Yes. I feel bad for saying this, but I want him traded for HIS sake more than the team's. It'd be fun to see him work under a pitching coach who might know, well, what he's doing with top-level talent. To me, Francisco is just another case of a foreign ballplayer who gets his name anglicized by Gardy, gets labeled a head case by the coaching staff and gets derailed from a promising career until he gets an opportunity to leave. Goodbye, Francisco -- it'll be fun watching you help a team to a pennant (even if it's the Yankees (GAG!)).
  3. Seth, if you don't hear it often enough, you do a fantastic job with these updates. Always a pleasure to read, even when the big league club has a tough stretch. Kudos.
  4. I follow your reasoning, but I'm leery of lines like this: "Ryan's methodical nature has worked for this team in the past, and will work again." This perspective depends upon your conception of "working." The new Gardenhire/Ryan/Smith way is leading to the franchise's longest World Series berth drought in its history. I also cringe a bit at your acceptance of standing pat because Sano, Arcia and others are coming in 2014. Yes, they're coming as ROOKIES. None of our prospects project to be a Bryce Harper-style rookie, and goodness knows that if even one of them did, he wouldn't stand a chance of playing under Gardy's abject disdain for bravado, energy and competitiveness.
  5. Maybe so, but maybe the Twins need to worry more about what the players do on the diamond and worry less about perceptions of a player's "character." Seems like we've pushed a lot of talent out the door over the last decade because they ran afoul of some unwritten code of conduct ... and the results finally speak for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate having nice people in the organization, but Gardy and company don't seem to give much leeway to guys who they think won't fit the mold.
  6. "This organization has not won a title or being competitive in the post-season for 21 years and this is a long time. Unfortunately, new fans who started following the Twins in the mid to late 90s are calling the recent years a success... It's all about perspective, memories and where you set the bar." Yup. For all the ballyhoo over the division titles (won relatively marginally over sub-par competition), 2014 will mark the longest AL pennant drought in team history. Gardy's legacy isn't as great as some think, and this organization, had it been able to shuffle the deck more wisely, had a championship core in the making. Unfortunately, the front office and the manager didn't get it done, and it's on them. I'm just hoping they won't be around to waste the nucleus that's developing in the low minors right now.
  7. Just read the blog post, and I couldn't commend you more for demanding accountability from the team's "leadership." If we want to return to respectability in the AL, more fans are going to have to make these demands. Gardy cannot lead by example.
  8. Just kind of funny that the two titles on the left sidebar are "Who Wants to Be Here?" and "Gardenhire to Miss Mariners Series." Question, meet answer.
  9. No, thrylos has a very valid point. The man gets three months of vacation, and other days off throughout the year to celebrate with family. Three days off here is inexcusable, particularly when a skipper is needed to right a sinking ship. But we have more than enough evidence by now that Gardy is not the man for the job. It puzzles me why more people here don't see this.
