  1. [h=2]Who do you want to see replace Baker? [/h] Terry Ryan. It's his job.
  2. Then Gardy should do great if he's sent down there too.
  3. I've long felt the same argument applies to your batters, too. Hustle guys like Punto make their mark every now and then during the season, and then when you insert them in the post-season can you be at all surprised if they collect an ofer?
  4. I'll hold my 20/20 hindsight for after the game.
  5. I don't take many cabs but this seems like the profile of most of the bank tellers I encounter lately.
  6. Used to seem that way all the time with Scott Erickson, too. Lights-out first inning would too often translate into the showers by the fifth. Other games he'd struggle in the early innings then cruise into the eighth or ninth. Go figure.
  7. A team's made an offer? Who do we get?
  8. Very tough story for anyone to read who can correctly process this snippet: The doctors had emerged from the operating room with an update. Reese had only a 50-50 chance to live.
  9. I'm hoping Doumit's defense is as good as the team braintrust is apparently counting on him to be, and that his offense is strong with a full season of wear and tear.
  10. > or made a concerted effort to improve his discipline I am a big fat loser. http://www.twinsdaily.com/images/smilies/smile.png (If Parker can silently update his posting to make my reply look incomprehensible in retrospect, so can I, except for the silent part I guess.)
  11. I liked the signing of JWill, but I think we have to get used to him not scoring very often from second on a single.
  12. I have the impression that Mastro is down there to learn to play second, it being sold to him as his best route to the majors.
  13. I think that's the signal we're reading, and is appropriate use for a young three-tool player.
  14. Every chance he was given, yes. But one of the chances he was not given by age 25 was "AAA". Have to wonder why. Defense sounds a likely culprit. Having a DH-only profile really limits roster flexibility for many teams, such as 2012 Minnesota with the lingering health questions. I do like the move in terms of Rochester alone, and there is also nothing wrong with having a guy in the organization with serious home run power, in case he's able to translate it to the higher levels. If he does defy what I think to be the odds (from looking only at minor league stats) it could be a good pickup, for a solid five year major league career for instance, and in the meantime the investment is low.
  15. I'm always one to look a gift horse in the mouth. He was a little old for AA at 25, and regressed somewhat from the standout numbers he had there as a 24 year old. Given the Phillies' risk at first base with Howard's injury at the end of last season, I'm wondering why that team would give up on him at this moment. Can hope for the best, but right now I'd project him as a .700 OPS guy at the major league level; not chopped liver but if he can only play 1B or cover DH, he's replacement level at best. Hope he tears it up at Rochester.
  16. I seem to recall early in 2011 that Gardy commented, on trying to get Nishi going, that they had film of him doing well in Japan but no film of when he did poorly, making it hard to offer advice. I definitely chose to read frustration with the scouting, on that one.
  17. Mr. Ed, I guess that was my point, to dispute whatever weak excuse Doyle seemed to think he had.
  18. Wow, Thrylos's spreadsheet with the three colors happens to have nailed the four position players who were cut. Exactly four guys are in red, all four are cut. (Butera and Florimon were green in today's game to bring themselves to yellow for the Spring, somehow "justifying after the fact" these roster decisions.) On the pitching side, it wasn't quite as accurate, with some guys in yellow going down and guys in red continuing for a few more days at least.
  19. Thrylos has a point; on the other hand if Doyle needs to know (like a starter) well in advance when he'll be pitching then he's not a great candidate for the bullpen duties that a Rule-5 draftee often draws.
