  1. Who are comparable former or current pitchers to Albers. I have heard the Jimmy Key and Jamie Moyer comparables as ceilings, any others?
  2. That's unlikely since he was hitting 88 for Team Canada at the WBC this year. Also if you check his scouting report from the University of Kentucky he was hitting high 88-89 then.
  3. Albers is now 2nd in the International league with 101 K's and only 27 BB's. The leader has 105 K's and 86 BB's by comparison. Also for those wanting to compare, Albers has a K/9 rate of 8.3 and Kyle Gibson had a K/9 rate of 7.7. I'd be interested to see if he can have any success agains't major leaguers other than Derek Jeter (Jeter was 0-2 against him in a rehab start). What I do think is cool is that Darnell and Albers were on the same staff together at the University of Kentucky in 2008 (Albers had best whip and K/9 on entire staff) and both might make it to the Twins staff next year.
  4. Those hoping for a bounce back game from Albers will be pleased by his performance tonight. Andrew Albers was coming off his only bad start in his past 9 games coming into todays game agains't division leaders Pawtucket. 6 Ip 5 hits 1 run 0 Earned runs 1 walk and 10 K's. He had 8 K's after 4 innings.
  5. Albers and Collabello were named to the AAA allstar game. Albers last game was his first bad start in his past 9. He deserves the next callup. Terry Ryan has praised him as Rochesters best starter this year, so we'll see if he's added to the 40 man. If he is I wonder who is dropped from it or if there will be a trade.
  6. It's nice to see him trending up as his april ops was .688 , may ops was .750 and june ops was .821. I still can't get over his home and away splits and i know it's a sss but his home split is .323 ave, .371 obp, .532 slugging and a .902 ops. If he ever gets it together on the road this season he'll be dangerous again.
  7. If the Red Sox won't do Bogaerts maybe they would do anthony ranaudo and noe ramirez. Wonder if Ramirez could be made into a starter because of his outstanding changeup (supposedly the best in the Sox organization). Ranaudo could be #3 starter to add to Gibson, Stewart, Berrios and possibly May and Meyer.
  8. First bad start ( 5 runs in 5 Ip) by Albers in a long time. I guess you're allowed one bad one every 9 starts. One positive is at least Derek Jeter didn't get a hit off of him in his rehab start.
  9. Would his upside be a healthy Brett Anderson?
  10. A lot of Twins fans myself included have been pleasantly surprised by the year Andrew Albers is having. Currently he is 7-2 with an era of 2.93 for this year which ranks 5th among all starters in the international league. Of those 5 starters Albers k/9 ranks 2nd. For those comparing, his k/9 is actually a little higher than Kyle Gibson and his bb/9 is lower than Gibsons. This June Albers is 5-0 with an era of 2.43, 33.1 ip, 26 hits, 7 bb, and 27 K's, opponents are hitting .230 off of him and he has a whip of 0.99. So the question is what would be his upside and do you think he is for real or is he another AAAA pitcher?
  11. I agree with everything but FIp as it doesn't factor in all hits and considers all hr's as equal. Considering grand slams giving up 4 runs the same as a solo shot is fundamentally flawed. I have another thread on here on a revised formula for FIp that punishes pitchers that can't pitch under pressure with runners on base. As an example take Albers last 2 hrs allowed. Both were solo shots in the revised stat the multiplier would be 7 for a solo shot, 11 for a two rundinger, 15 for 3 run shots and 19 for grand slams. In this instance Albers would be charged with 14 (7*2) as opposed to 26 (13*2) in the regular fip. Add just those changes and you can see the significant difference between pitchers who throw a few garbage dingers and those that give up hr's in more important situations. For such a heavily hr based stat it's unfortunate that fip is so skewed.
  12. Great to see Gibson get the call. Hopefully it won't be long before we see Albers who is now 5-0 in June after allowing 1 run in 5 innings with 6 K's today.
  13. Since all homers are considered equal in this stat with a 13 multiplier why not change that to a 7 with no one on, an 11 with one man on a 15 with 2 men on and a 19 for grand slams. It would punish pitchers who perform badly in pressure situations and reward those who mostly give up Hr's in garbage situations.
  14. Really if they just ran a 6 man rotation they could bring up Kyle now (and Albers instead of trying to play them agains't each other ala Terry Ryans recent comments) and maybe have Gibson able to pitch till the end of the season. It might also help Pelfrey and Diamond to have an extra day of rest between starts. Also trade Correia while his value is more than a bag of balls.
  15. They should bring him up and trade Correia for a prospect if possible. It's also time to see what they have in Albers considering he's 4-0 in June with a 0.92 Whip and threw a complete game shutout this month. I don't see any Twins starters going 9 innings recently.
  16. Time to bring these boys up Twins. Please trade Correia now for whatever you can get for him and run both of these guys in a 6 man rotation.
  17. I did a little research and Albers was University of Kentucky's best pitcher 2008 (same staff as Logan Darnell) Had TJ in 2009. Has been crazy consistent this year and had pretty good low minors numbers but seemed to struggle (if you consider a 3.75 era struggling) each time he was moved up until this year. I would like to see him and Gibson up and Correia traded, and have the Twins run a 6 man rotation to help save some of the starters arms. Maybe they could get a little further into games and also help save a few of the bullpen arms. Then you could also move May and Darnell up to AAA if they are deemed ready.
  18. Is it too soon to think of moving May up to AAA, for instance if Gibson or Albers get called up. Also nice to see Albers with another quality start. Just wondering if anyone has seen Albers pitch this season? Outside of comments from Terry Ryan I haven't really learned much about this guy. The latest scouting reports on him are from 2010. If anyone can find anything newer I'd like to see a writeup on him. I don't think anyone here has actually seen this guy
  19. I'd like to see the Twins trade Correia for whatever they can reasonably get for him and bring both Albers and Gibson up and run a 6 man rotation. Gibson and Pelfrey are both coming off of TJ and Diamond (elbow) and Deduno have both been injured this past year. No sense burning all of the arms up. Plus with the extra day of rest they might get further in the games and not have to rely on the bullpen so much. I know Albers needs to be added to the roster perhaps that would finally get Drew off of it.
  20. If Rosario's not playing in the FSL all star game they could promote him right now, before Sano. ( If they feel comfortable with his defence this year and if they think he's reacted properly to his benching.)
  21. New Britian has a pretty formidable starting staff now with, Meyer, May, Darnell, Baxendale and Stuifbergen. How many do you think are up next year with the Twins?
  22. Maybe Cueller can teach him a to throw a real nice changeup when he moves up to AAA. He probably just needs one more pitch and he will be successful as a starter.
  23. The last scouting report I saw from 2011 had Albers hitting 90 with his fastball, since when did his velocity decrease to mid 80's?
  24. Does anyone have a recent report as to the velocity of Andrew Albers and what pitches he throws and how effective they are. The newest I can find is from 2011 just after his Tommy John surgery and lists him as a Lefty that throws a Fastball, Cutter and Changeup with the fastball at 90 and his stuff listed as average. You'd figure his fastball must be moving or he has to have a really good change to be striking out about 9 per 9 inning start in AAA.
  25. Seth do you think the Twins will bring up both Albers and Gibson? Is Albers even on the 40 man roster? I know Albers K rate is higher than Gibsons this year (both at almost 9 K's per game) but there stats are almost identical. It would be nice to have a couple of starters on the Twins who missed bats.
