  1. I can't blame you for Faulkner... Twain and Faulkner are my favorites... Faulkner wrote some beautiful stuff... "Between Grief and Nothing... I will take Grief". I worry Mississippi inspired that.
  2. ChiTown isn't here today... I think she is packing and getting out to beat the rush.
  3. The Canadians have weapons grade uranium stashed somewhere in Alberta. Justin Beiber knows where it is. He will have to be seduced for the information. Ummm... Ok... You might be right... There isn't a scenerio.
  4. I threw pennies in the basket.
  5. Awesome... Just make sure it's something I can pronounce. BTW... I think the moderators are gonna crash your place for free food in August.
  6. I think you are making those places up.
  7. I would stay in Grand Forks until my youngest graduates. Grand Forks has been more than I coulda hoped for when it comes to raising a family. In two years... I'd do it. 1. Lake Minnetonka... Close enough to the action but it really doesn't feel big city. I'm a born and bred Minnesotan... So I already know everybody. 2. Ft. Myers... I'd love to live on a warm Gulf... Hurricanes and Jelly Fish are alright with me. No income tax in a Florida... Twins Spring Training. 3. Hilton Head or even Charleston SC... I really liked Hilton Head... I'd be golfing all day... May even get my score down around 90 after awhile... If Charleston... Gibby could cook for me.
  8. Taxes is the main issue. They are so high in Illinois that I think I'm paying some.
  9. Umm... Nobody is moving to Illinois.
  10. I will say this... Them Canadians may be commies... But they are damn funny.
  11. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume... It's not Charleston West Virginia.
  12. Ok... It was wrong for me to put an arbitrary limit. The whole world is open.
  13. Ok... Canada can be included... I just can't imagine anyone choosing Saskatchewan.
  14. In consideration of Thought 5... I gave it about 15 miles of thought on the way home... If you could pick up your entire life and move it elsewhere. Would you stay? or move? If your moving... Where? You must list 3 choices and only in the United States. If your Staying... Where are you and Why are you staying?
  15. I even stayed awake... I'm so proud of myself. Just sat down on my own furniture and I've got the game on with a lead. Ive seen enough of North Dakota for the time being.
  16. Game-time forecast: Mostly cloudy. Winds blowing from left to right field at 1-5 m.p.h. Temperature around 50. Orioles: SP, Gonzalez Markakis RF Machado 3B Cruz LF Jones CF Wieters C Hardy SS Young DH Pearce 1B Schoop 2B Twins: SP, Hughes Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Plouffe DH Colabello RF Kubel LF Suzuki C Fuld CF Escobar 3B Florimon SS ------------------------------------------------------------------- Things to think about: 1. Home stand -- The Twins wrap up the cold home stand this afternoon. It was supposed to be a 9 game home stand. Losing a game against Detroit and It will be 8 and the Twins are currently 2-5. I certainly don't have to tell anyone here that 2-6 for a home stand isn't very good. 3-5 is OK... The season is on the line this afternoon. 2. Phil Hughes -- Still wondering what he have here but I'm starting to get encouraged. He's had the occasional bad inning but his hang a zero in an inning percentage is really good. Phil wasn't my first choice this off season... Maybe he should have been. 3. Manny Machado -- When we played the Blue Jays... I went on and on about Brett Lawrie from a defensive standpoint. If I did that and I did. It's only fair that I do the same for Manny Machado. Manny is part of the elite three. Lawrie... Arenado and Machado. His arm strength is ridiculous... The throws he can make across his body so effortlessly defy logic. Machado was a SS converted to 3B to fill a hole. Many assume he will be a SS again some day. Watching him play 3rd... I assume the Orioles are not in a hurry. 4. Brian Dozier -- And if we are going to talk about elite defense... I'm ready to place Dozier at the top of the 2B rankings. I think he belongs in a group with Brandon Phillips... Omar Infante and Jose Altuve. And I'm thinking right now... If I had to pick number one... It's Dozier. Dozier was a converted SS and some assume he will be a SS again... Watching him play 2nd... I assume the Twins are not in a hurry. 5. Illinois -- Recent Gallup Poll survey results were released. The question was simple. If you had the choice to move to another state... Would you leave your current home state. Illinois came in at #1 with a whopping 50% of residents saying they would leave if they could. Connecticut was #2 at 49%... And Maryland was #3 in the get me outta here category with 47%... Followed by: Nevada 43% Rhode Island 42% On the other side... Hawaii, Montana and Maine have the least amount of residents who would leave if they could... All tied with 23% Minnesota faired pretty well... 25% would leave... 75% ain't going anywhere!!! South Dakota was right behind Minnesota at 26%. Why did I type this? What's my point? No point really... I just feel sorry for ChiTown and Ashbury.
  17. Game-time forecast: Mostly cloudy. Winds blowing out to center field at 10-20 m.p.h. 0% PoP. Temperature around 55. Orioles: SP, Chen Markakis RF Machado 3B Cruz DH Jones CF Clevenger C Hardy SS Pearce 1B Lough LF Schoop 2B Twins: SP, Correia Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Plouffe 3B Colabello RF Kubel LF Pinto DH Suzuki C Fuld CF Florimon SS --------------------------------------------------------------- Things to Think About: 1. Offense -- We got shut out yesterday and we struggled to score against the Dodgers in both games of the doubleheader. You don't know what you got until it's gone. I miss the offense... I'd like to see it come back. I'd like to ask the Twins to quit reading those press clippings. Don't go thinking you are all that... Just go back to putting the bat on the ball. Whatever happens will happen. 2. Kevin Correia -- Man does this guy have concentric circles on his back for the Twins Daily crowd. We spent all last year reading how bad he was supposed to be and going to be. Even when he wasn't that bad last year... we kept reading how bad he was supposed to be and it just flooded over anything he did that was average or decent. His start this year hasn't been great and it finally matches the sentiment that has existed since he signed the contract. Just hang on everyone... Kevin Correia will be average once again before this year is out. 3. The rubber band around .500 -- With a 4 game losing streak... That rubber band has stretched to 3 games below on the negative side. If the Twins real off 3 wins in a row... We can start believing in the rubber band. If they don't... It was a concept that only applied to April. It's May now and the Twins may be on their own. Untethered!!! 4. Power -- Power is a great thing... Finding the Seats is exciting and finding the seats can lead to wins and to big contracts in the future. Everybody wants to hit a home run... However... Power is very dangerous... If you think you got it and if it becomes a part of your mindset and approach at the plate. It can lead to slumps of Dom DeLuise size proportion. You start trying to park outside pitches and you ground out to SS. K Rates go up and everything comes down. You should never swing for a home run... They just come. I have a sneaking suspicion after watching the Twins the past couple of days... I think the Home Run has become to large a part in approaches at the plate and the Home Run has been missing along with it. If I'm right... Dear Twins... Stop Doing that. If I'm wrong... as Emily Latella says... Nevermind. 5. Weddings -- I won't be able to watch today's game. I'm posting this and immediately getting into my car and driving to Bismarck for a wedding. I had to search behind a whole bunch of stuff that I never wear just to find a tie. I don't like ties... I fully understood Ricky Vaughn in the movie Major League when he said "I feel like a Banker in this". I've been practicing staying awake for the ceremony for the past week. I've been watching paint dry... Watching Chick Flicks on Netflix... I went out to a farm and counted sheep and stayed awake through it all... I think I'm ready. BTW... I never saw a single sheep jump over a fence. They don't seem all that motivated to do so.
  18. Alfred E. was never really humor... He was the gateway to it. Alfred E. was who I looked for on the rack. Alfred E. was how I quickly found Mad Magazine amongst the Good Housekeeping and Sports Illustrated. I never had a subscription...I bought my copy faithfully every month at Gibson's discount store. I Probably started around age 8 and I did this for years. Mom didn't drive me... I walked it... I'm guessing 2 miles there and 2 miles back. All I said was "Mom... I'm going to Gibson's". Mom would go into her purse... Hand me the exact amount of money and I'd just plunk it down on the counter. I had half of it read by the time I got back. I learned to read while walking because of Mad Magazine... A skill I still have to this day. I had it read cover to cover by day one and I would re-read it every night lying in bed. By the time the next issue came out... I had the last one memorized. My reading comprehension as an 8 year old was incredible because of Mad Magazine... I had to raise my game... Just to get the humor and I knew it was humor and I spent my early years trying to discover why it was humor. My sense of humor is all Mad magazine I knew what was happening in the world because of Mad... It was like I was reading Time Magazine with a better point of view. Mad... taught me that it was 100 times better to laugh at what is wrong in the world then be pissed about it. I first saw the ellipses... on the pages of mad magazine. Mad was equal opportunity satire and Mad was self deprecation. I could always laugh at myself because of Mad... I never worried about being embarrassed... I never worried about the world coming to an end. Mad kept me balanced... It was my Bible. I learned to think for myself through the pages of Mad magazine. I've thought about who I am these days and yeah... Mad Magazine was as big an influence in who I am today as anything. Thats the best I can do for a tribute. Al Feldstein... I never met him... But... I blame him.
