  1. Was in fact thinking it's time for the Tonkin Resolution. The one regarding his golf game?
  2. Suspecting there's a Reussie column in the works about the loss, in which all we learn about the game is that Mauer walked in his final AB instead of homering, and is therefore an indisputably over-rated nonleader and all-around disappointment.
  3. Because closer, or something... Dunno. The 21 pitches and high usage to start the season probably didn't help. And Gardenhire only asked him to go two innings once last year, in the last week of the season, oddly enough. In fact he only recorded more than three outs three times last season.
  4. So much for selling high on Burton...
  5. The game or the thread?
  6. At least he didn't throw a bat at him...
  7. Dumbest mound charge of all time: Reggie Sanders, believing Pedro Martinez had deliberately thrown at him just five outs from a perfect game. What a tool.
  8. You know you're bad against same-side pitching when you get pinch hit for by Nicky Punto. Would love to know what the usually quiet and restrained Perkins said to get Donaldson fired up enough to clear the benches.
  9. Ball and strike calls suddenly competent in a tight game after being bad all day.
  10. The puzzling 'Jim Johnson, pitch-to-contact closer' era seems to be winding down...
  11. Replay is gonna be close. Either way, nice hustle play by the A's that's hard to picture the Twins executing properly.
  12. Apparently he sucks at bunting just as much, if not more.
  13. Goin will no doubt mention this to Gardy, who will call him a stat nerd while giving him a wedgie...
  14. ...with a chance to add to the total in the 9th against their closer. When Suzuki and Herrmann come to the plate down two in the 9th, it's official. You have no bench. One PH and one defensive sub and you're done.
  15. Magic in general running out for a lineup that entered the day second in the league in runs scored but second to last in homers. Hard to sustain offense by stringing together bunches of hits, especially when some of the guys batting .320 are really .220 hitters.
  16. Plouffe facing a rightie late and close is a sign of a not-so-deep bench. After being absent for a ton of bad calls, FoxTrax mysteriously reappears on a nondescript fastball in the center of the strike zone...
  17. Finally a pitch is called a ball... after the catcher has to lunge for it. Dozier's patience pays off with the swing he put on that bomb. Funny what can happen when the pitch is somewhere near the strike zone.
  18. Not big on political correctness, but it doesn't take a PR genius to see the problem with that. Cigars privately and an appropriate public pregame gift would have been better.
  19. That pretty much narrows it down to hitting lefties. That has value, but it's not terribly hard to find and shouldn't cost much...
  20. Third out at third, bummer.
  21. After 7 straight seasons of swinging strike rates that never exceeded 4.3%, Mauer swung and missed nearly 6% of the time last year, and he's started out this season at 6.9%. It's too early to be worried, but it's something to watch. Two percent doesn't sound like much, but over the course of the season it's dozens of additional swings and misses. It will be interesting, especially after two more looking K's today, to see if Mauer gets tired of letting umpires still struggling with their strike zones determine the outcomes of his AB's.
  22. Baby steps... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tfGC7tOlrdk/SrsBfIvcrSI/AAAAAAAAIwY/jpcnv71-3As/s400/baby-steps.png
  23. Nice job by Herrmann cutting off the gapper. Hoping he and Colabello will continue to give Ron absolutely no reason to play Bartlett in an outfield corner again.
  24. In addition to the pitch count, the pace for 12 ER's and 9 walks may be an issue.
  25. Gaining ground on the record so far today. On pace for 15 in the game.
