  1. Despite all those "shortcomings for Arraez, he is defying them all carving out a niche for himself on this roster. Anyone who can get on base for the sluggers behind him will find a spot despite all the tool projections of other prospects. Arraez passes the eyeball test as a player. A productive one. The kid can hit. Every team can use a bat for someone who gets on base. I think too many fans and experts alike chase the unicorn of the perennial All-star team when in reality, such dreams always fall short. Look at all those Yankee teams that fell on their face. All-star teams rarely have what it takes from guys like Arraez who do everything they can to make the TEAM better. Anyone building teams in sports or business understands the value of glue guys - those that don't necessarily have all the talent or accolades but instead find a way to make the team better. His energy, his desire and frankly his output will land him a spot somewhere. Everyone sees this but many don't want to admit to it. He's better than Sano and Schoop now. And he'll get better. If I conducted a poll among the three, it would be a landslide.
  2. I was talking about bunting as an option to move runners into scoring position. Are you saying that the bunt rate decreases based on facing elite pitching and that it should not be attempted? Is that your point? Some of you guys are getting sidetracked here. I am merely making a claim that bunting can be GOOD. Not BAD all the time but GOOD. You don't have to believe me. Just stick to the notion that is supported by "numbers" you can believe in that bunting has no place in baseball. Just don't try convincing me.
  3. They were down one run. It's late. You take the lead and you are six outs away from a W. Why must every inning be a BIG inning? You can also hit into a DP there too, you know. You can fly out keeping the force intact. You can strike out keeping the force intact. You're not changing my mind here.
  4. Those are theories based on analytics. If you're telling me that play CAN'T work, that's one thing. I watch the Royals execute bunting to perfection and it is effective. I understand this is more or less a thing of the past. And while that may be true, what is also true is that teams are no longer preparing for it defensively. What an opportunity to utilize. And I would like to see advanced stats in the playoffs when facing top 3 starters and top relievers on rest. Give me data I can use. Because I'm telling you, when you have free-swingers in clutch moments against elite pitching, their failure rate goes way up. I'd like to see specific stats in situational moments to better understand what goes on behind that statement. Those stats are covering a 162-game season which doesn't tell me much about playoff manufacturing of runs.
  5. We'll agree to disagree. I thought it was a great occasion. I'm not sure what you're waiting for, actually. Some numbers? Some magical moment? What numbers, then? And the hitting coach and other coaches should actually be practicing this if they're going to implement. That's no excuse whatsoever.
  6. Hey pal, don't take the leap of absurdity here. No one and I mean no one is comparing or envies the Royals. Stop following the flashy shiny objects and focus on the finer point of detail here - the effectiveness of bunting. Argue that, not the Royals record. Come on, now.
  7. Agreed. Very tough series'. And to simply state our overall record hardly tells the whole story which is that one element of their game is very effective and can certainly help this team down the stretch. You didn't address anything else from my post other than the hanging fruit for a wise comment. I'm sure you can do better.
  8. Yeah, it's perfectly reasonable to deploy that strategy there. What, you have to wait an inning or two? Why? It's the 7th! And based on what, some unwritten rule? That's my biggest beef with the author of this topic in that he believes there's no other option than to swing. That's BS. I can actually live with either option but to claim there's only ONE option is farfetched and fandom speak. Armchair QB. Revisionist sunglasses. Poor, short-sighted insight.
  9. Barely won the home series that could have gone the other way and just split a 4-game series on the road. Not many easy games that I saw. But rest on your laurels (6-3) record vs the worst team in the division.
  10. Scoop did play 3B in Baltimore and this could remedy Sano from being out there all the time and keep Arraez at 2nd. I would venture to say he can play the position better than Miguel. Addition by subtraction in both fielding and hitting IMO.
  11. The Twins sure struggled against them. They did reach consecutive World Series recently and won one. But don't let that get in the way of a weak joke.
  12. You know, at some point in the late season and especially the playoffs when they need to manufacture runs against elite pitching, they will need to execute bunts or they may go home. Free-swinging will result in killed rallies and lots of K's against opponent's top 3 starters and rested bullpens. There's absolutely no reason a professional hitter can't work on his craft to include bunting which can be a hugely essential play in a tight game in late/extra innings or even as an element of surprise. Look how effective KC is because NO ONE does this anymore. I think it's the right call (am I the ONLY one?) in the 7th trying to get the tie run to 3rd with one out and the lead run to 2nd. Why does everyone dismiss this as bad strategy? It's worked for millennia. Please refrain from analytics explanations. Not buying it.
