  1. You're essentially asking for two Jose Berrios and an MLB shortstop. That's... Completely unreasonable. The Twins couldn't agree to that deal quickly enough. Dozier is a very good player but he's not elite. Getting what boils down to two top 20 prospects and an MLB ready middle infielder is not going to happen.
  2. Only about five people will get this but it's too good to pass up.
  3. But that's not what was said. There's a significant gap between "in the playoffs" and "in the playoff hunt". It's the difference between as many as 5-7 wins on the season. An 83 win team is often "in the hunt" until early to mid September. The 2015 Twins were in the hunt until the last series of the season and ended up with 83 wins.
  4. No, definitely not... But I'm not sure 20% is that far off the mark. Think about it this way: is it unreasonable that if you ran five simulations with this team, one of out five times they end up over 80 wins? Given the explosive talent of Berrios, Buxton, and Sano with the interesting talent of Polanco, Rosario, Kepler, etc., a one in five chance of hanging in the WC picture isn't absurd. But you don't plan on the one out of five chance. You plan on the four out of five chance.
  5. And he turned 22 two months ago. He's 13 months younger than Buxton.
  6. No, there isn't. And it happens on this board. Every. Single. Day. You've received your explanation. Some moderators edit posts, others hide posts (they're not deleted FTR, they're hidden from view). It is entirely at that moderator's discretion whether to hide or edit a post. Personally, I edit posts most of the time if the entire post isn't a dumpster fire (unless I'm on my phone, which is an entirely different situation with different editing/hide tools). Other moderators only hide posts. Some do a mix. This is a human decision with judgment calls. And it's going to stay that way because that's the only way to run a forum.
  7. Yeah, he didn't gain anything from Target Field, I was more concerned with how his bat plays in Dodger Stadium, which is big pretty much everywhere. But it's been years since I was at Dodger Stadium and don't remember the typical wind patterns of the stadium.
  8. Good point. That will almost surely happen in some capacity.
  9. Obviously, I'd like to see the Twins get more than that but it's not a competely unreasonable deal, provided Buehler's rehab was on track and he didn't have any obvious health issues.
  10. If Mayer wasn't on the team, I'd also consider Dozier in the two slot, maybe even the three slot during those months he turns into a home run machine. Or hell, maybe even fourth with Sano third. But not leadoff. He hits too many homers and too few other hits to be a leadoff guy.
  11. Sure, he CAN lead off but it won't make any more sense than it did in the past. 2016 Dozier is ideally suited to the 5 slot. 2013-15 Dozier is ideally suited to the 6-7 slots.
  12. Definitely more valuable. That's still "average starter" money in the third year and a team option if he's still good.
  13. Yeah, it's a recipe for disaster. If Dozier was entering free agency at 30, it's a possibility. I probably wouldn't do it then, either, but it'd be considered.
  14. Yes, while it's likely Dozier will regress in 2017, let's not forget that he posted a .634 OPS and only five home runs through the first 47 (!) games of the season. He played 157 games last season so just a tick under 1/3rd of the season, he was a pretty bad hitter. But... Dozier is a streaky hitter. We can't expect stabilization and a consistent, say, .750 OPS from month to month. His track record shows he's not that kind of hitter. My point is that while Dozier had a (probably) career year in 2016, he doesn't need to mash like he did for the last 100 games of the season. If his "bad" months are a .670 OPS instead of a .620 OPS, his hot streaks don't need to be long or torrid to maintain a solid performance over the course of a year. Time will tell but I'm not willing to accept significant regression as fact six weeks before pitchers and catchers report.
  15. True, I guess PETCO is offset by those stadiums and I don't recall AT&T being that brutal on righties compared to lefties (but I'm drawing from hazy recollection here).
  16. I wonder how much this offer is effected by Friedman's concern over how Dozier's bat will play in the cavernous Chavez Ravine (and the tough NL West stadiums in general). At first glance, this deal seems like a no-brainer. The Dodgers need a bat to level the field with the Cubs and, while they're an impressive organization, there has to be some concern over whether their window will begin to close after the 2018 season when Kershaw can opt out of his contract. It doesn't appear the Twins are asking for the sun and moon. De Leon is a good, not great, prospect and the Dodgers are rather loaded with arms.
  17. Yep. No matter whether Dozier stays or goes it's possible, maybe even likely, he's overshadowed by Sano and/or Buxton in 2017 anyway.
  18. For the record, I followed that thread while it was happening (for what seemed like weeks on end, honestly). ChiTown's post wasn't directed at a single poster (and the poster most closely associated with her response didn't seem to take offense), it was directed at the thread. If you can't see the difference between saying "come on people, it's kinda sad and boring that instead of just walking away, some of you want to lock the thread for everyone" versus "you're making condescending posts and playing the victim card", then the problem here isn't moderation, it's your obviously slanted interpretation of the situation. The former post is part of a moderator's job. The latter is an obvious rule violation. We don't lock threads because posters are irritated and want them locked because of course we don't. That's a terrible way to run a forum. And, yes, it's kinda sad that some people can't just walk away from a thread and instead want to see it locked for everyone. That's the internet equivalent of getting mad at the other kids and taking your ball home, ruining everyone else's day in the process. If a moderator has to even consider making such a post, that means the thread has already gone to hell in a handbasket and that circling of the drain was not the moderator's fault. Blaming the moderator after the fact is akin to punching the mailman for delivering a past due bill notice.
  19. Previous seasons of Sherlock have been three episodes apiece. I don't know if this season follows that formula but I suspect it does.
  20. Moderators are human beings. They sometimes post things they later regret and I'm no exception. But moderators toe the line to the best of their ability and succeed in doing so 99% of the time. What moderators *don't* do is derail a thread, commit multiple infractions in a matter of days, and ignore other moderator scoldings. It's not a one way street because moderators self-police more than any other posters on this forum. Sure, sometimes they wander over the line on accident but so does everybody (and most posters don't get warnings for wandering over the line once).
  21. I also finally got around to Westworld today. Through three episodes and yeah, this show is pretty much amazeballs so far.
  22. The numbers were only meant to illustrate a comparative point, not project any real performance.
  23. I clearly think the Twins should care what people think? I explained my point clearly. Stop assuming you know what I think.
  24. I didn't change the subject, you interpreted my point to suit your purposes. Okay, but if you want to argue "player valuation", here goes: 10 WAR over six seasons is worth FAR less than 10 WAR over two seasons. One of those players is borderline elite, the other is a below average starting player. Comparing combined WAR over contract length overvalues mediocrity and undervalues good players. And that's not including the risk involved with any prospect versus the lack of risk of an established player.
  25. Where did I say the Twins should care what the media thinks? You're the one arguing that De Leon is fair value for Dozier. My point is that few, if any, professional journalists would agree with you.
