  1. And I'd still consider it a mistake but I think Revere will do better in the NL and that ballpark than he ever would in Target Field.
  2. Now the question is.....WHO?! I'm hoping Marcum. Marcum, Worley, Diamond and Gibson in the front 4. Not great, but it's a start... If you told me that'd be the 2013 rotation a month ago and the loss from the deal was virtually nothing (considering the Twins ALSO got May for Revere), I would have been pleased as punch.
  3. Oh, Ryan hosed the Phillies, without a doubt. And I was never that down on Revere's value. I thought he had a decent chance of maintaining his value through 2013, which is when I hoped he'd be traded (though I always said if an offer was there, take it and run like hell). But I never valued him very high. There's a difference between how I value a guy and how one of 29 other general managers might value that guy. I don't believe I ever said the Twins couldn't get value for Revere, I simply said that extending him was ludicrous because his ceiling was relatively low (and that I think no-hit speedsters are a mistake in general).
  4. Maybe it's just me but I like The Italian Job as a fourth outfielder. He's almost perfect in that role.
  5. Zero. That would be awful. Spend money on pitching and middle infielders. Arcia, Benson, Hicks, and Mastrioanni give the Twins some OF options at the league minimum.
  6. Hard to say. I think they'll open the season with both, really. But if there is still a market for outfielders, I'm sure Ryan will listen. After all, there are divisions outside the NL East that might need an outfielder.
  7. Meyer is a better prospect than May. But given how many pitchers the Twins need in both the short and long term, it's impossible not to love this deal.
  8. Timing is everything. Man, that is an AWESOME return on Revere.
  9. Holy crap. TR just ****ed the Phillies so hard. Pardon my French. There's no better way to put it.
  10. MLBTR is reporting that a "good" prospect was also included. If true, that is ONE HELL of a haul for Revere.
  11. I have the feeling Ryan wouldn't give away a cost-controlled player without a significant return.
  12. My excitement is palpable. Literally. I think I just crapped myself.
  13. Holy crap. My excitement is through the roof.
  14. Baseball seems to be centerfielder-crazy right now. Ryan is right to take advantage of that. Taking advantage of a system's inefficiencies is so...so MoneyBall. Ryan has spent his career doing a pretty damned good job of playing a MoneyBall game. He simply plays it in a very different way than Beane. Overall, I think Beane is the slightly smarter GM but Ryan is no slouch, either.
  15. Baseball seems to be centerfielder-crazy right now. Ryan is right to take advantage of that.
  16. Given this market, they're not going to get somebody as good (much less better) than Mauer for $23m. It doesn't make any sense to trade the guy because all you have to do after that is go overpay somebody else.
  17. I'd like to see the Twins pursue guys in the minors but given the FA pitching market, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Ryan pursue Worley because he's not confident in his ability to sign a Major League pitcher that isn't awful. And that might be the right decision to make in this situation.
  18. Well, yeah. There's no way in hell a team trades a franchise catcher that OPSes around .850 with a .410 OBP and eats part of the contract. I'm not a fan of trading Mauer (AT ALL) but there's a small part of me that would love to see him tear it up in Fenway. He might be a perennial 1.000 OPS guy in that park.
  19. Interesting. Thanks for the heads-up on the Phils system. I know virtually nothing about it.
  20. Saunders and Liriano would really question TR and the Twins, in my mind it has to be a younger guy like McCarthy, otherwise let everyone get there money from another team, and unload Morneau/Willingham and let the Hendriks, DeVries, Gibson, Deduno, Meyer thing work. We can't just sign guys to fill a rotation and spend needless money, if you are going to rebuild, let the fans know that and take the lumps in 2013. If you have the money (and the Twins do), there's no reason you can't do both. Trade some of your valuable assets to restock the farm (as it appears Ryan is doing) and pick up some free agents that won't do damage to your longterm payroll. The path to winning is homegrown talent but in the meantime, that doesn't mean you can't field a team that isn't awful through the help of free agency.
  21. And we're still figuring out how all this works. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that we finally nailed down a code of conduct policy.
  22. Care to reevaluate that statement? He should be in the Hall of Fame with that skillset, but as of right now... Hah, right. That should read "Tim Raines should make it into..." I think he'll make it in time.
