  1. "Honest question, if it wasn't a surprise to the Twins, why did they leave him unprotected?" This is my "honest" answer. Maybe the Twins weren't surprised, because they knew other teams liked Jones. They didn't protect him, because they didn't like him as much as they knew that the other teams liked him.
  2. The Yankees lost SEVEN players in Rule 5. The #2 and #3 picks in the MLB portion and FIVE players in the Minor league portion. Gotta love Rule 5!
  3. better than Fien and Dean. Good name for a law firm!
  4. Rumor is that Pat Dean's DNA test from "ancestry.com" proves that his Great-Grandfather was the third brother of Dizzy and Daffy Dean. The Great-Grandfather's name was Doofus Dean.
  5. Did the Rule 5 losses of Roberto Clemente, Johan Santana and Josh Hamilton "matter one bit"?
  6. From Aaron Gleeman (ignoring time frame) "the list of prominent Twins relievers who began their careers as starters also includes Matt Guerrier, Juan Rincon, J.C. Romero, Mike Trombley, Al Worthington, LaTroy Hawkins, and Brian Duensing. In fact, of the 14 pitchers in Twins history to make at least 250 appearances as relievers all but one of them started before they relieved, with Jesse Crain being the lone exception"
  7. A name from the past. The Johan Santana trade just keeps on giving...... From the Rule 5 draft today: 9. Los Angeles Angels: Deolis Guerra, RHP, Pirates The Twins lost NOBODY and gained NOBODY in the minor league portion. That's much better than some other teams who lost several players
  8. But if we don't protect them on the 40-man roster, we could lose them to the brewers.
  9. Amazing that THIS is interesting to me (but NOT to you), while the mere mention of WAR makes me want to go to the couch and take a nap.
  10. Yes, but a catcher who has reached MLB vs a pitcher nearly the same age, who just reached (and failed) at AA? Easy to compare a AA failure to a MLB rookie at the same age.
  11. Zach Jones at AA. AA 3 2 6.00 27 18 30 .247 1.56 Level W-L ERA G BB K BAA WHIP
  12. In 2015 Jones FAILED at AA. IN 2015 Hicks played in MLB (where he batted infrequently and PLAYED in AAA.
  13. " John Hicks was the #13-ranked-prospect for Seattle in the 2015 BA Prospect Handbook. Zach Jones was the #25-ranked-prospect for the Twins in the 2015 BA Prospect Handbook. So, your statement is baseless. I agree that Jones should have been protected instead of Hicks, but only because he was more likely to be lost NOT because he "is a bad baseball player" which is WRONG! .
  14. IMO, the Twins mistakenly left Zach Jones unprotected, (while protecting Pat Dean) because they did NOT factor into that decision THE PROBABILITY, that other teams WOULD NOT pick Pat Dean in Rule 5 because he is a little-known, barely-ranked non-prospect. On the other hand Zach Jones was a well-known, highly-ranked prospect with big-time stuff, who was a much higher risk to be lost if unprotected. Even if Pat Dean becomes Sean Gilmartin 2016, I doubt that he had much chance of being lost in the Rule 5 Draft. It IS possible that the Twins lack of LH SP depth may have been the real reason that Pat Dean was protected and Zach Jones was not.
  15. It is possible to be VERY active, work VERY hard and tire yourself out, but not accomplish anything. I have explained this to my wife many times after a Saturday of Honey-do's where nothing significant was completed. So Ryan may have been VERY active, worked VERY hard and tired himself out, but not accomplished anything. Like pushing on a Redwood tree that won't move. In physics, zero work is accomplished, which is a normal day for most of my physic professors.
  16. Of course Ryan is not at the Winter Meetings!! Ryan will be there on December 21, WHEN WINTER BEGINS!! Baseball holds Spring Training in winter and winter meetings in autumn. Never let an umpire read a calendar! It's autumn now, but nobody in MLB was notified.
  17. At least he will be owed less money.
  18. My suggestion: Have Nolasco pitch batting practice without an L-screen and hope that insurance will pay off his contract.
  19. No wonder they haven't signed any MLB Free Agents!
  20. If the Twins try to get Sonny Gray, they will probably end up with a sunny day, or possibly Sonny Bono.
  21. To determine if the Twins are staying for the Rule5 draft tomorrow, look to see if they have checked out of their Motel6 rooms today, or will they be spending another night.
  22. A nap, a crap, a lap, a rap in the yap and time to take a zap around the map.
  23. Summary of Twins rumors and transactions with one day left at the Winter Meetings. Wait for it.................
  24. I believe that loss of self-confidence in his defense can easily carry over to his offense. I believe it, because I have WITNESSED it hundreds of times!
  25. Are there any opinions on whether his problems are mechanical or mental. Keep in mind that confidence is EVERYTHING in baseball. If he can reverse the confidence>performance>confidence>performance causation cycle, an amazing transformation is possible. (If he possesses the skills)
