  1. IMO, a quality major league first baseman needs to have a catch radius (to steal a football term) slightly larger than shoulder width. Not a great throw, sure. But not an overly difficult play.
  2. Ump is really inconsistent tonight. Putting it politely.
  3. I think it's a little from each column. His stuff is good, but not amazing. It's really just a stellar changeup with not much else. But, he's just so smart with it and has so many different looks. Throw in the pinpoint command with varying arm angles, it make sure it nearly impossible for hitters.
  4. An answer of striking out the side would be great.
  5. Man, Polanco has been awesome. Big time hit.
  6. When you've been as bad as they have, it's going to take a good couple of years to get casual fans interested again.
  7. If you're Rosario, not sure why you even take a swing like that.
  8. I really hope that's not the case, and I think it would be a mistake to let him go in favor of Adrianza. Adrianza certainly won't hit as much going forward. There are other defensive whiz-kids in the minors (Vielma, etc) that could step in, or Gordon may be ready at some point next year (doubtful, IMO, but maybe). Escobar on the other hand, has been one of the most valuable and irreplaceable players on the team this year (IMO). He can play anywhere in the field, but I think "utility guy" role gets thrown around in poor context (implicating that he's somehow deficient as a player). It's more of a strength than an indictment. He's still young, and he has carried the team at times offensively. He's also loved in the clubhouse. Hes also still fairly young. He's an easy guy to overlook, admittedly, but I think he might be the best "utility" guy out there right now (remember the days of Nick Punto?!).
  9. This doesn't change my mind about the previous regime (namely, Ryan). Let say they win 88 games this year. Since Ryan took over in 1993 (about 25 years), that FO exceeded that win total 5 times. That's awful, especially considering 88 wins wouldn't get you into the playoffs most years under the 1 wild card system. I believe two of those years were under Bill Smith, technically (who is responsible for Sano, Polanco, Rosario, and Kepler), so Ryan wasn't about 3/20 in that regard. Let's also not forget the AL Central was one of the worst overall divisions in baseball during the time-frame that all of those seasons were accrued. Then, they never capitalize on a playoff appearance (zero World Series appearances, one ALCS) I've said before, if anyone deserve some credit for this season, it's probably Bill Smith. I'm certainly not going to start calling Ryan a genius. I don't think it's a coincidence that these young guys turned it on after getting fresh blood in here (aka not assuming it would be the same if the old regime were in place). They wouldn't have hired Rowson, who should probably get team MVP.
  10. Rosario since August 6th (36 games): .308 with 12 HR and 33 RBI Twins since August 1st: Leading the MLB with 6.07 runs per game. Pretty staggering when you consider Sano has been out of the lineup for most of that. Rosario is not only a core piece for the future....but he's quietly the Twins best and most important offensive peice right now. .292/.329/.506/.835, 23 HR, 56 XBH, K rate of 3/1 for the entire season (nearly 500 AB), with pretty good defense. Something to consider is that he's hitting as a LH in Target Field, which may be stifling his HR numbers in relation to some other parks (which is why comparing some of these numbers is inherently flawed). If his progression stops right there, he's a very very good player. If he continues to get better, he's a freaking superstar.
  11. I don't think people wanted to trade because they think he's a good player.
  12. I like it. It shows exaxtly what the 2 games in 18 means (roughly a coin flip). Different strokes, I guess.
  13. I'm thinking they should probably trade him for starting pitching. If nobody will take him at this point, drop him off the 40-man.
  14. This team just can't capitalize on the opportunities that keep getting dropped into their lap.
  15. Can't blame Molitor for the bullpen. It's absolutely terrible, save Belisle (lately), Rogers (maybe), and Hildenberger. As much as it seems like he has, he can't use those two guys every night. Can't defend some of this guy's decisions to bunt Polanco. It's getting a little ridiculous.
  16. Hildenberger is a freaking stud. He's the only guy in the bullpen who has consistently gotten outs this year. He's the only guy who jogs out if the pen that I trust isn't going implode and give away a game. 6 outs while facing 5 batters in a game that big is pretty impressive. Rosario got off the schneid (if you can call it that when he has 10 HR and 28 RBI in his last 30 games). Some fans wanted him DFA'd the day before. He only went in to drive in 4 runs in what was possibly the biggest game of the year. The cherry was picking up a game on NY and LA. Can you imagine this lineup with a hot Sano batting 4? Hopefully we get him back next week.
  17. Per Aaron Gleeman, since trading Garcia Gibson has a 3.10 ERA. Colon is at 3.20.
  18. Kyle Gibson has a sub 1.70 ERA in his last 4 starts (according to ESPN recap). When do we start cal him "Big Game" Gibson? In all seriousness, I think it's time to throw preconceived notions of this guy out the window. Looking at various stats/analytics, he appears to have turned a corner. He's been our best pitcher for two months now, down the stretch in a playoff race. Bringing this guy back next year is a must. He could be an absolute bargain at the back-end of the rotation. If I'm Molitor, and this team somehow squeaks into the ALDS, Ginny's gets one of three spots. Really happy for the guy. By all accounts, he's a great guy. The stuff has always been there, and he's shown he could be good in the past. He came a hair away from washing out. He got crap from everyone in the State, including has manager (maybe rightfully so). He's got to feel great.
  19. Gibson and Polanco deliver again. How great have those two been?
  20. I hate that we have Matt Belisle saving games.
  21. Got one in my house somehow the other night. It chirped all night and was just enough to distract me from sleeping. Couldn't find it as it would get quiet whenever I entered the room it was in. Most aggravating thing I've ever went through. Was nearly running around the house like the dude from the Shining. I considered torching my house.
