  1. I remember how disruptive he was on the basepaths, along with Rodney of course. Remember the game in 1969 when Tovar and Carew both stole home in the same inning on the Tigers? They stole 5 bases that inning. I included the link below but, before I go, here's what it says on the back of his 1970 Topps card that I am holding in my hand: "Batting champ of the Carolina League in 1962, Cesar plays well at six positions. A perfect leadoff man, Cesar very seldom strikes out, and is a good baserunner." http://www.espn.com/classic/s/moment010518carew.html They were fun to watch!
  2. The Tigers need a closer and, in their minds, it may be the piece that gets them a title. Unfortunately they are in our division but just for the fun of it what do they have in their system that might be worth dealing Perk?
  3. This is high-priority reading for me every day. You are doing a great job with it and it is much appreciated. From another Twins fan living too far away, which reminds me that my sister called me to rub it in that she was at Target Field last night. My sister who, Odin bless her, couldn't tell you the difference between a Texas leaguer and a can of corn (20-30 feet)--Ouch!
  4. Thanks Seth! Good to see Hendricks pitching so well. We'll need him soon enough.
  5. That was fun to read Seth. I love seeing the ball players in their early development stages too. Can't wait to read your "scouting report."
  6. And Tom Kelly is a joy to listen to, funny and insightful. It was especially fun when Hrbek joined the broadcast and they started talking about past games like they happened yesterday. They referred to a play where Hrbek did a bellyflop on the basepaths and came up short of the bag and was out by a mile. TK said "It's good that we can laugh about it now!" implying that he was not happy with Hrbie when it happened. It seemed that Hrbek was squirming a bit at the turn that the conversation had taken which made it even funnier. I vaguely recall the game they were talking about. I think TK mentioned that it happened during a game in which the Twins made a triple play (or two?) and still lost the game.
  7. Watching our pitchers is cruel and unusually painful. It seemed like an endless stream of doubles were being hit to the outfield walls last night by the Red Sox. My wife kept saying "Take the pitcher out, he's getting demoralized!" (She's very empathetic.) I responded "Somebody has to pitch tomorrow night sweetie! Think of the poor guy they put in next--would you rather have one guy demoralized or several?" Our solution is to have two tvs set up side-by-side so we can watch something else at the same time while averting our eyes as Twins' pitchers are punished. Carroll and Willingham have been bright spots though. Every time I see Carroll make a play I think "We wouldn't have made that play last year. It's a beautiful thing!"
  8. Shout out for Rusty Staub! Vive Le Gran Orange! Oh, and for Rock Raines, The Hawk, and the late, great Gary Carter. Then there's Pedro and Randy...
  9. Excellent analysis Parker. Keep it comin'.
  10. That's good to hear about Alex Wimmers. Let's hope it's only the beginning. These minor league roundups are terrific Seth--good work!
  11. I agree that the bullpen is scary but it's our starting staff that is giving me the worst nightmares. With Baker out we are now down to 4th and 5th starters (okay, Frankie might be better but inconsistency is his trademark). We really needed Mark Buerhle or somebody of that caliber (or better). I just have a sinking feeling that our starters will be awful and our bullpen won't be able to plug the holes and stop the sinking. And stinking. Ugh. I'm thankful that I have the Nationals to watch out here on the East Coast. Check out their pitching. Lannan wants to be traded.
  12. Interesting analysis Parker. I for one would like to see the walk rates for all (some?) of the current Twins as a follow-up post if you get a chance. Maybe even some historically significant walk rates of past HOFers or past Twins. Thanks!
  13. Thanks Thrylos98! Watching your posts from Richmond, Virginia...
