  1. I need to stop watching this team, I'm running out of things to throw at my TV.
  2. So when the hell does this losing streak end? Can Vanimal get it done tomorrow? 4 in Detroit after that. No Verlander, but KC/Fister and Pelfrey/Scherzer are not matchups I'm looking forward to watching.
  3. The more losses like this I see, the more I'm convinced that Puckett, Hrbek, TK and company really did make a deal with the Devil back in the day: two World Series crowns for a lifetime of Minnesota sports suffering.
  4. ---It's not bad enough that the Twins have lost 6 in a row and look poised for another season in the crapper? You had to bring that up as well? What's it gonna be when we make it 7 in a row tomorrow - Jonny Flynn over Steph Curry?
  5. Bloop and a blast, let's go. Dickbert mentioned this was Crain's third year with Chicago. Seems like he's been gone much longer than that. Guess its the interminable nature of the last 2 seasons.
  6. KC in the 8th is indefensible. I know Morneau isn't the hitter he once was, but he has done a really nice job in the field this year.
  7. I don't think it's an easy call with Morneau. He hasn't returned to peak form, but he's been better than he generally was in 2011 and 2012. The range of possibilities with him is huge - one bonk on the noggin could end his career, or he could find his old self and end up in the MVP conversation. Do you move him for whatever you can and go with Parm at first? Or do you keep him, hoping he'll give you a few more good year? I dunno. I'd actually lean towards keeping him unless someone makes an offer too good to refuse. The free agent market may not be as strong for him. It's a pretty good free agent class, and you have to wonder whether the expensive train wrecks in Toronto and Anaheim will give some folks pause about throwing money around. That said, all it takes is one dodo to overpay a guy. We shall see. My gut says he's gone at the deadline.
  8. yeah over 162 games you're gonna have some. Every team does. But this will be the fourth game in the last 2 weeks we've gotten out to a lead and peed it away in the later innings. That's too many. If we could have held a couple of those we'd be 18-14 instead of 16-16. Not to mention what it does to my blood pressure.
  9. I didn't mean to mislead with the note there, sorry about that. It's tough stuff they're going through, it doesn't get any more stressful than that. Before reading this, I always thought of Nick Blackburn in connection with a Bobby Abreu line drive to the noggin, a gutty game 163 performance in Chicago, a dubious contract decision by the Twins, and some monumentally bad starts the past couple of years. But that's all insignificant compared to this. It sounds like this are headed in the right direction there, but they're not out of the woods yet.
  10. Nick and Alicia Blackburn couldn't help but note the irony when they found out they were going to have twins | twinsbaseball.com: News Regardless of what happens with Nick's career with the Minnesota Twins, I hope all works out for their own twins.
  11. ---How do you like that, my memory is not totally gone yet. That was one of the most painful non-Yankee losses in recent memory. But still kinda fun to look at the box - monster game for Morneau there. Can't forget how good he was in those days . Hard not to wonder what could have been had he been able to stay healthy.
  12. Did y'all see it? Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | OAK@CLE: Rosales' fly ball reviewed, ruled a double - Video | indians.com: Multimedia Brutal. But Angel must have at least half-a-dozen calls like this every year. He must know where the bodies are buried.
  13. I can't believe this game is still going on. Save some of these runs for tomorrow, boys - we'll need 'em.
  14. ---I think I do remember that game. If I remember correctly (which I may well not), Blackburn played a huge role in coughing up that lead. Wasn't that also the game we got hosed big time when Cuddyer was called out at home when he was safe and it wasn't even close, I think he his foot has slid all the way across the plate before he was tagged?
  15. Couldn't watch today but wow. Here I was fearing that the KC most of us were expecting would make his debut today. That's 11 wins. We didn't get our 11th win until game 37 on May 16th last year. Hope Mauer starts hitting again, we'll need him to on this road trip.
  16. ---Hold the DeVries, thanks. (But as far as your avatar goes, I wouldn't mind Vancing her Worley.)
  17. No Big Canadian, no Plouffe and no Parm. Interesting. Sounds like something you'd say as part of a fast food order.
  18. Back when the Twins were winning division titles, this is the time of game they would have found a way to win. They used to grind out victories by making one key play in the field, big pitch or clutch hit that the other guys didn't. The last 2 nights they've been on the wrong side of that. A comeback victory would have taken a bit of the sting off what happened in St. Paul. ugh. I'm gonna go check the Lynx schedule. I need to watch a local team with a chance of winning something.
  19. ---I never said that this thread shouldn't exist, nor did I intend to belittle anyone. I apologize if it came across that way. Nor was it a comment on TD in general, which I enjoy for the same reasons you stated. In addition to the various tangents and nuggets of value you pointed out, the vast diversity of viewpoints on what constitutes appropriate conduct and decorum in these parts is fascinating. Here I've been called out for the use of the word 'squawking' as belittling. Last year, when I questioned some of the racially-tinged stuff being thrown at Nishioka, I was accused of being "uppity".
  20. ---This. We had a good defensive backup catcher who couldn't hit. And there was non-stop squawking about him. Now we have a backup catcher who can hit, but isn't very good defensively. And there's squawking about that. Yes, it would be lovely to have a well-rounded backup catcher. But if a guy is really good both at the plate and behind it, then he's not a backup catcher. He's starting somewhere.
  21. ---Do you think team chemistry is important? And if so, what metrics are you using to quantify it so as to support your position?
  22. ---Yeah I really hope I'm forced to eat some as well. What we're seeing so far is more what I thought 2012 would be like. Nobody in the AL Central looks poised to set the world on fire here, so hanging around .500 probably means hanging in the division race. The Twins manage to do that, and we're looking at a pretty mediocre baseball team, but a mediocre baseball team that could still be playing meaningful games in August. Not exactly something to aspire to, but after the last 2 years, I'll gladly take it. We shall see. Gotta have a good homestand here, after that it's a 10-game road trip to Detroit, Cleveland and Boston.
  23. It always warms my heart to see the Twins high-fiving on the field at US Cellular.
  24. Yeah I got the Angels broadcast too. I had just popped over to FSN+ to check in on our local hockey club, and came back to that instead of Dick and Bert. It made for a weird 9th inning. Things got a little too close for comfort at the end there, but a W nonetheless. And now the Wild just gave up 2 quick goals in the third and it's 5-3 instead of 5-1. Dammit. My expectations for the 2013 are still not high, but I think this team will be a great deal more watchable than it was the last couple of years. Hopefully it's a step towards a return to relevance next year.
