  1. I don't have too many high hopes for this year other than Kyle Waldrop making the roster out of spring training. He deserves a shot to prove he was worth the #1 draft pick in 2004. I don't advocate for many players but Waldrop is somebody who could become very valuable to the bullpen. I just hope Gardenhire does not decide to bring Burnett back or go with Doyle...
  2. Let’s be honest the Terry Doyle experiment has failed and needs to come to an end. He is not even Scott Diamond Jr!!!! I actually agree with Seth (big shocker) we have a lot of good arms to choose from for three open bullpen spots. I like Burton, Waldrop, and Gutierrez myself, but the Maloney kid has impressed the hell out of me. I keep waiting for him to get lit up and it does not happen. You can’t keep a bad player on your roster just because he was selected in the Rule 5 draft and trust me Ryan knows this. The Twins might have one more guy to pick from if they sign Michael Wuertz. Yes……… Please……. Yes……………
  3. Ben, He has had 1 good season (2010) since coming back from T.J. surgery in 2006. Nothing to get too excited about and at this point can you really say I was wong.
  4. Thrylos98, I will agree with you and Seth that maybe "Released" was a bit over the top even for me. He should go to New Britain or Rochester and allowed to develop slowly. However, he might be wounded beyond reapir at this point.
  5. Jim, I told you Terry Doyle should be offered back to the Chicago White Sox ASAP. Kyle Waldrop just moved up the charts. Yes!!!!!!!!
  6. Thrylos98, So you are comparing Frank Viola to Alex Burnett? What's next, your trading in a Chevrolet Corvette for a Ford Pinto. Come on the comparison is a joke and you know it. Viola had talent with a great change up, slider, fastball, and curve. Burnett has limited talent, unless you count a straight fastball right down the middle of the plate. Everyone can jump on me that is fine. However, I was right about Terry Doyle as he was shelled again today, Liriano (1 good season), and most likely about Burnett. Maybe somebody can find some stats and compare Doyle to Dwight Gooden.
  7. Ben, What did Liriano do again last year? Oh that's right!!!
  8. Seth, You said on your show several different times "I really believe Alex Burnett could be the future closer for the Twins." This has been your analysis for the last two years. Pretty optimistic for a guy who has been absolutely throttled by other teams and is not improving.
  9. Mr. Ed, Alex Burnett is the Twins new Nick Punto. I believe he must have something on these guys because nothing else makes sense. Why are they so enamored with this guy.
  10. Give me another example besides Jesse Crain????? "Generally speaking" I get tired of every prospect in the system being thought of as the next Willie Mays. Some guys just are not very good, but according to you they are all superstars. Why not just talk about how they are in fantastic shape and brush their teeth well. Sorry to burst your bubble but 85-90% of all prospects never make it at the M.L. level. However, you still believe Cole Nelson, Alex Burnett, and Lester Oliveros are great prospects. I actually disagree with you. You are entitled to you rosey outlook on everything but more people agree with me, even if they are not willing to say it. In fact your site would not be successful if everyone did.
  11. Seth, Your banter about Alex Burnett being talented has really grown old. I could careless the guy is 24 years old and did not spend much time in Rochester, he clearly can't make the adjustments at the M.L. level. Your not Gardy, so please stop protecting this guy. He has been given more chances than Waldrop, Slama, Delaney, and many others ever will. Here is all you need to know. 2010. He had a 5.29 ERA in 47.2 IP. (7.0 K/9 ratio). 2011. He had a 5.51 ERA in 50.2 IP. (5.9 K/9 ratio). 2012. He has a 16.87 ERA in 2.2 IP. (By guys who will be unemployed in two weeks). The guy has not improved at all, in fact he has got much worse. I would straight up release him and give his 40-man roster spot to someone who deserves it. I thought you were all about giving opportunities to guys who deserve it. This guy had his chance and his 15 minutes of fame are up.
  12. I predicted last year that Baker needed T.J. surgery...He has all the symptoms low velocity on fastball, can't get loose, and still 5 months later in pain. Hey training staff can you say UCL tear. These idiots are so bad it really is disgusting. Glad they upgraded the starting rotation, oh don't worry we have Terry Doyle. Looks like the Pohlad family will save another $9.5 million in 2013. It's unreal they will get to use injuries as excuse again in 2012.

  15. I believe Burton, Maloney, and Waldrop should make the bullpen. Hopefully, they send Alex Burnett packing and soon. A spot could also be filled by Carlos Gutierrez who could be a stud. My fear is they give it to Terry Doyle because he is a Rule 5 draft pick. Doyle is not very good and should be given back to Chicago.
  16. I'm actually starting to believe in Jared Burton. He could really help out a bad bullpen.
  17. Twins Fan From Afar, I agree with you!! I remember people saying the same thing last year. If Morneau retires the Twins will get back money for his last two seasons (2012 & 2013) because the contract is insured. This means the Pohlad family would get another $28 million to deposit in their already large bank accounts. I know it's depressing to talk about but sure glad the front ofice cut payroll by $15 million. This is essentially a $29 million dollar savings in 2012 alone.
  18. John, Your one of the smartest baseball writers out there. Do you really think Jason Marquis has any talent? The guy was signed for one reason and that is to save Jim Pohlad money. There is a reason the new ballpark was named Target Field. What is Target's motto "Expect more Pay less." This is without question the Twins philosphy of the front office in everything they do. Just look at how many people they are projecting will step up and have a good year. Mauer, Morneau, Liriano, Baker, Blackburn, Capps, Willingham, Doumit, Marquis, Carroll, and 3 unproven bullpen pitchers. There is absolutley no way in a million years the team could be successful. It's like playing the lottery and soon Target Field will be like a ghost town. Other more optimistic people may write what people want to hear, but it's not reality. I really would appreciate your thoughts as what I see as another inevitable losing season.
  19. I feel bad for Morneau but maybe it's time to pull the pin. Parmelee is going to be a stud anyways and will really help this club. The offense could score 12 runs for Jason Marquis and it would not be enough. Somebody please tell my why this guy was signed again? Oh that's right he was dirt cheap!!
  20. Gernzy, I agree Danny Valencia is very under valued by this organization. Everytime the Twins lost last season the king idiot (Ron Gardenhire) would blame Valencia for something. Valencia had a nice season offensively and as long as his defense improves he will the starting 3B for a while.
  21. Hicks is just another #1 first round bust by Deron Johnson our great scouting director. Hicks in 2008, Gibson in 2009, Wimmers in 20120, and Michael in 2012. We need Mike Radcliff back in charge of the scouting department.
  22. The bottom line is fans want to see home runs and management tried to give it to them with a specially designed hangover porch in right field. The problem is the way the wind swirls downtown in Target Field everything gets knocked down. They did it at Citi Field for 2012, Comercia Park, and U.S. Cellular Field. Why can't the front office put their egos aside and just move the power alleys in 10 feet and get rid of the height on the fence in right field. These are not sweeping changes and the Twins hitters would benefit in their own ballpark. This notion that is helps the Twins pitchers is hilarious, you could move the fences out to 500 feet and other teams would still hit home runs against our .AAA rotation and bullpen.
  23. Move in the damn fences already. Why can't management admit they were wrong about the overall dimensions and just move on.
  24. Shanewahl, Wow we actually agree on something!! I totally agree Jared Burton has looked really good this spring. Give credit to Seth Stohs for predicting he was a solid minor league signing. I personally had never heard of the guy before this winter. Alex Burnett is 23 years old in the prime of his career and looks terrible. I sure hope the three bullpen guys are Jared Burton, Kyle Waldrop, and Carlos Gutierrez. However, I have been very vocal about team taking a chance on Michael Wuertz. I would love to see that happen.
  25. This is the longest running thread at Twins Daily!! I believe Revere will take another step forward in his game this season. However, he still has no power, a weak arm, and struggles to get on base. His biggest value to the Twins is his ablity to catch everything in the outfield. Why would you take away one of his strengths by putting him in left field. Revere is most valuable in CF, Span in RF, and Willingham in LF. Plouffe can platoon with all three outfielders to give them days off. He can DH on other days to keep his bat in the lineup. Plouffe will most likely get between 450-500 at bats in 2012.
