  1. I wouldn't be shocked if the Twins try him as a starter next year, in say, AA or AAA. But for a Rule 5 guy, and with options like Gibson already struggling to find room in the rotation, I don't know why anyone would mess with it.
  2. Just a reminder to everyone - rather than comment on inappropriate posts, please notify administrators using the icon at the bottom of each post that looks like a triangle with an exclamation point it it. FWIW, mike wants wins did just that after his quote, but just a tip for everyone else.
  3. FWIW, I think for the most part the figures in that web site are correct. They look to me like they were pulled from USAToday's tracking DB, which is widely recognized. The problem is that the 2013 numbers were never updated. They match the 2012 numbers exactly.
  4. I can. I'm closing this thread and sending a warning about trolling.
  5. While we wonder whether Morneau or Willingham are worth trading, there is a name that is brought up a lot less often: Trevor Plouffe. If the Twins are convinced Sano can stay at 3rd, Plouffe is looking more and more like a cheap, productive, everyday player at a position that is hard to fill, similar to Denard Span a couple of years ago. Now there is a name that could bring back a pitching prospect, right? And would you?
  6. Mmmmm. Cake. I'll ask..... How much of the concern over where Gibson spends his July is due to: 1) I think he could help the Twins right now 2) I think he could benefit next year from 40-50 innings in MLB this year 3) I think he could benefit long term from 40-50 innings in MLB this year 4) I just don't like the way this current administration does things 5) I just want to play with my shiny new toy Personally, I'd go with 1 - 5% 2 - 30% 3 - 5% 4 - 10% 5 - 125%. (Of, I guess just 50%). I'll add - I can't get too worked up about this. The only real tangibile benefit is maybe how he pitches next year. And it is likely easier to protect his arm (especially given the undue attention he is already given) by keeping him in Rochester.
  7. It's an interesting question. Given their minor league careers, Dozier would seem to have more promise, but he's also in a position to be squeezed - and Rosario is looking like the real deal. I think whoever said "neither" might be right. I'm still not convinced that Florimon will last beyond this year - the Twins aren't afraid to go nab a bargain gloveman at SS in the offseason. So I guess I'd go with Dozier. If he improves enough or if Rosario does well in AA, Dozier could be kept around to keep the seat warm, even if it's just through next May.
  8. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised thta looking at the pitching matchups, things look a little bleak in all 3 games. Fortunately, there is also offense to consider. For instance, despite the Twins sending out a 6.12 ERA tonight, they're favored today (very slightly) by Vegas.

  10. Aaron and John talk about their night in a Target Field suite, praying for Samuel Deduno, Oswaldo Arcia showing he belongs again, Clete Thomas subbing for Aaron Hicks, the Byron Buxton experience, Trevor Plouffe coming off the disabled list hot, grumpy Bonnes and sunny Gleeman, starting a team from scratch, releasing Anthony Slama, mailbag questions from listeners, and being chased by the cops. 13. A lot of this thread seems to be driven by the playing time of Parmelee thus far. There are some other long-standing gripes being raised, but they're probably better addressed in other threads, so I'll stick with that one. I think I'm one of Parmelee's biggest supporters so far, so here's my take and why I'm having trouble getting upset about it. Doumit was incredibly hot coming into this week - so hot that he was moved to 3rd in the order - and I couldn't disagree with it. With Doumit and Arcia (who, I think, nobody has any problem with getting time) and Morneau and Willingham and Mauer - there is no place for Parmelee unless you want to see him lunging around center field. It's that simple. Gardy could do a couple things - he could give one of the other guys a night off occasionally, but here's the thing: Parmelee hasn't exactly forced the issue. He's been - at best - mediocre and has been KILLING them in clutch situations (with a good chunk of bad luck mixed in, I would claim). His WPA is the 2nd lowest on the lineup at -1.33, just above Aaron Hicks. Before he was benefiting from Doumit's slump, but Doumit put that to bed. Now that Doumit is cooling off a bit (god is he a streaky player), I think Parm will get some more opportunities. If not, I don't really see why he's on the roster at this point. Is he out of options? I'm sure he was a candidate to be sent down when Plouffe came up. If I had to choose a guy for Parm to take the place of, it would be Willingham right now. He's not healthy. He's not productive. I'd like to seem him get two weeks or so to get his back or knees or whatever better, hand Arcia LF, put Doumit at DH and give Parm another 2 weeks to find himself. But that not be managerially possible.
  14. Maybe eventually, but nothing like this, and not this fast.

  16. You would think that when Twins Daily hits a milestone like one million views over a month, as we did yesterday, it would cause a elation. And usually you would be right. But this time, it was a little overwhelming. Because while I forget details about the beginnings of blogging I still vividly remember certain feelings. I remember the emptiness of hollering into the void. I remember the elation of finding an audience. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]I remember the backlash, the anger at cowardly throwaway attacks. The disbelief at shameful obstacles. The frustration. The hopelessness. The resignation. For the better part of a decade, the naysayers had the louder voice. They used it to tell you that nobody will listen. That your passion is of no interest. That your voice belongs in your mothers basement. To them I'll reply: 1,000,000. One million times per month people want to read your thoughts. One million times per month, people want to read your research. One million times per month, people want to share your passion. To me, that is a dream come true. To the naysayers, it is a fad or a lark or an insignificant detail. They are making the same mistake they made ten years ago: they underestimated you. They didn't think you were passionate enough to find us, kind enough to share, civil enough to discuss, or talented enough to write. And you are all those things and there are millions of you and now we know this, can show this. Which is a very long way of saying two words: Thank You. I don't pretend to know everyone's motivations for visiting Twins Daily, but whatever the reason, it feels like a miracle. Elation isn't enough.

  18. Huh. So Herrmann is backup CFer again. I still don't know where Arcia plays, especially now that Parmelee & Doumit are hitting. Id have rather seen Antuan Richardson (is that his name?), I think.
  19. It's a sponsored story and it says so very clearly. But if you would like to have a discussion on sponsored stories on Twins Daily, feel free to start a thread in the "About Twins Daily" forum. I'm very open to discussing them.
  20. I think I was at at party. The guy who was knocked out was also a Packers fan who had been talking s-word about Greg Jennings. That might have been part of what got Klaus so worked up. Plus, his wife left him recently. All she left of hers was that damn umbrella.

  22. Are people going to be disappointed if we end up with Bryant ( because pitchers go 1-2-3)? Do we need pitching that bad? i know I won't. But I sense I'm in the minority.
  23. Shoulda listened at 8:20 this morning. :-)
  24. I would personally take this as very good news. Twins would almost have to take a Big 3 guy then.
