  1. I knew they were going to lose once I saw who was batting leadoff -- Forsythe. I don't know why this organization has so much faith in a manager who can't fill out a lineup card.
  2. Is this FO as good as they think they are? They thought they were a lot closer than they were when putting together the pieces for 2018. So, at this point, no. They did a nice job fielding a team that could beat Cleveland, but they have to be able to beat other teams too. This was their first crack at putting a team together, so they deserve more time to figure things out. Do they really have a plan for promotions and prospect growth? Yes. Why are they enamored with cast offs from every other team? I don't feel like they are. Can they overcome their love affair with their own selections and drop players like Morrison when the answer is obvious? Morrison and Rodney were weird pick-ups, but one of them worked out OK. The weirder part about Morrison is the caliber of players that he blocked. They had a lot of people who would have been better. Do they like our own prospects? Yes. And if so why don't they give our players a sense of timing for their arrival. They are not good at communicating with their employees. Dozier said the first time he talked to them was at the winter meetings last year. Sad. But I will say that as a manager, you don't want to make promises you can't keep. They would be lying if they say they ever truly know when a player will be called up.
  3. Without multiple doctors signing off on something saying he's injured, him and the player's union would sue the Twins so fast your head would spin.
  4. Ervin said the same thing Johan said at about this point in his last season here.
  5. Anyway, this loss is on the manager and not Belisle. There was zero reason to keep Gibson in there in the 4th. He was cooked. Sticking Belisle in later was probably the right move. Why waste a good reliever in a losing effort? Rosario and Mauer were both pulled late in the game too. Molitor just wanted to finish the game and not risk anybody important.
  6. Belisle won't be cut. *Cue cooked up story about his arm hurting followed by him hitting the DL.*
  7. I would have been all over Arrieta with no hesitation. The Twins could have pulled off the contract he got, too.
  8. It was? There isn't a snowball's chance in hell I would sign Darvish if I were GM. I said all along he is too injury prone. Look at how many innings he has logged for the Cubs so far this year. The Cubs have a good roster and can overpay for a guy like Darvish and still win games. The Twins are do not have that kind of depth. Giving Darvish what he wanted would have sunk this team for a long time. The Cubs are stuck with him until 2023!
  9. The FO did a good job. And even better, now they can get a head start on next year.
  10. Yes. Whether Dozier is with the team or not, the result is the same: The Twins go on winter break after game 162. Contract negotiations with Dozier will start in the offseason and Forsythe will be gone.
  11. "Giving up" veterans for run-of-the-mill prospects always seems like a huge loss. But we are forgetting some things: - Dozier was one of those run-of-the-mill prospects, most of you were beating the "he's going to regress" drum for 2-3 years before you bought into the idea that he could play baseball well - He is a lame duck. He was off the team anyway come the end of the season. - He might just come back to the Twins next year. It's possible the Twins got prospects + get Dozier back. No one else seems particularly interested in him, and the Twins would be happy to pay him market value and possibly a little more.
  12. The return on the Dozier trade is disappointing, but getting a couple of prospects in a situation where you otherwise would have gotten nothing is good. Otherwise I agree, these were good trades. If It were me, I would never let a guy like Pressly go except in his contract year, but I understand what they were thinking. Terry Ryan stuck to an ideal of never signing free agents, only feed the minors. But look here, the new crew signed free agents and flipped them later to feed the minors. When did Terry Ryan ever add 10-11 prospects in one week?
  13. True, but if the Twins make the playoffs anytime soon, history will be written this way anyway.
  14. He was moved to a team that might not make the playoffs. What a bummer that would be.
  15. When the dust has settled, this will go down as the most productive midseason in Twins history. 11 players for people who were (mostly) leaving anyway? This is what GMs are paid to do. The Twins really only gave up one asset that they might turn out to have been a bad idea (Pressly), and that's only because they could have had him another year. In a couple of years, when the Twins are finally good enough to win a playoff game, this midseason will be brought up as a reason. I am confident that Falvey/Levine will continue supplementing during the offseason with FA pickups and maybe more trades. And if the Twins are still stumbling, they'll dump them off for prospects at the right time. Smart.
  16. It's almost like Terry Ryan came back to give us one more completely useless trade for old time's sake. Someone tell the front office there's a difference between being busy and being productive.
  17. That's part of it. Andy MacPhail would say you have to do both. You have to feed the minor leagues but also supplement with free agency. And you know what? The current FO seems to be doing just that. They were active in free agency during the offseason. They're selling people at midseason to supplement the minors. Falvey was even quoted this week saying you have to feed all parts of the system. This front office is acting like they get it, which many young Twins fans have simply never seen before. This is almost "paint by numbers for running a baseball team" right now. Let's hope we NEVER go back to a GM who only will feed the minor league system and do nothing else.
  18. You did half the work. Now compare that workload to some other pitchers. And be fair -- don't cherry pick hall of famers or Cy Young candidates.
  19. Gardy loved to keep Blackburn in for 100+ pitch games. It didn't end well.
  20. I would be mildly surprised if the Twins don't get someone mildly interesting for Dozier. There is zero risk in signing him right before he hits free agency, and potentially a lot of reward for one year. And he's cheap.
  21. If he can keep that curveball going, and continue setting it up properly, the pitch will be very good to him.
  22. The thing about Berrios is ... he still hasn't peaked. This year is probably his floor for the next 4-5 years.
