  1. Did it say in the article why this may be happening? I skimmed it and couldn't find anything as to the reason behind the change. That may be a moot point anyway. I wonder how how adept pitchers may be at making these kinds of adjustments from season to season or even in season. It takes pitchers years to refine their abilities to even reach the majors.
  2. Why not just sign Garza or E. Santana for half the price? We know they will perform as a #2 starter most likely whereas Tanaka's abilities are a relative unknown. Then you don't need to blow up the roster for one player. Also, the players you mention trading, could be traded mid season or from a position of strength.
  3. Stud pitcher David Price is rumored to be available. I'm sure it would take a significant prospect package to pry him away from the Rays for his last two years of arbitration, but he is a legitimate ace. I would offer Eddie Rosario and Jose Berrios plus other lesser prospects as necessary to fill out the deal (probably 2 more). Then offer Price a six year 120 million dollar contract contingent on completion of the trade. If he won't sign long term, no trade. This would be like the Johan Santana trade. I would even go to 130 or 140 million on the deal. Sure the Twins aren't likely to commit to a contract like that on a pitcher/non-Joe Mauer player but this is hypothetical anyway. What do you think of this idea? What do you think of the likely hood of a trade for a real a1 pitcher? Steak sauce!
  4. Relief pitchers, even good closers, aren't going to get a team's best pitching prospect. When the Twins traded Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps I feel they over paid. Perkins is a better pitcher than Capps but not by so much that I would trade a prospect comparable to Ramos for him. Desperate GMs might over pay but I don't see it happening.
